Its 1983 in Miami and the young Cuban American music producer Lewis Martinee creates a hybrid of syncopated electro drum patterns that would help structure the blue print and further development for the Latin electro pop sound that would later in years be better known as Freestyle dance music and have a impact on many duet and trio girl groups for decades to come. What was developed in the early 80's as the "real" Miami sound, defined a sound that came to represent Miami's cultural shift change in the regions artist, musicians, day life and night life.Visions of a city drenched in art deco, sporty leather, chrome and shiny abstract modern furniture, big hair, shoulder pads and everything "Scarface" and "Miami Vice". Around the exact time New York's "Shanonesque" melodic vocal electro funk sound was taking over the planet, SEQUAL and X-POSED (later EXPOSE) would both hold this new hybrid of faster paced melody driven syncopated electro drum patterns that would at times compete with the same high energy synthesizers used in most Hi NRG and Italo disco records of the moment. In the process making Miami's Freestyle sound more internationally pop and club driven, appose to New Yorks reflections of urban life.
SEQUAL, the duet group composed of Maria Christensen and Angie Vollaro, would be known around the world from Latin America to Europe with their club anthem "Its Not Too Late". One of the first examples of full blown high energetic vocal electro records displaying higher keys in its synthesizer work and utilizing electric guitars in its orchestration.Vocal and production edits made by actually cutting actual tape from reels and pasting it with glue, would be displayed and become a very popular trend within the genre (NO COMPUTERS, PRO TOOLS, ETC FOR EDETING AT THE TIME).The Martinee sound of using live instruments set the production apart from records from other regions, while the Latin percussion gave it that Miami timbre. The duet would be on the Joey Boy records imprint (also known for a fleet of Miami Bass records) and later be one of the first American Freestyle dance groups signed to a major record label, Capital records.Their later records "She Don't Want You (Like I do)" and "Im Over You" would reach the same amount of global anthem status and the rest went down in History.
