getting around italy

i am going to italy in april
i am staying in rome for 4 days
i wanted to try to take a train to florence or to venice
i wanted to know if this was possible and how much it cost and how long the train ride is

I just came back yesterday. Took a train from Rome to Venice and it took 4.5 hours on Eurostar. The cost is around 45 Euros. Florence is even closer - 1.5 hours away on the same train (it stops there on the way to Venice).
