I have an opinion:

Their promotion is on life support. They run an ad in the Las Vegas Weekly, a nice glossy ad, but it doesn't say anything about the club. It has a pic, and says they're open Friday and Saturday. Um, thanks. Why don't they tell us what exactly is going on those nights? Tell is what genres of music will be the focus of each night? Tell us what the cover charge is, tell us the dresscode, etc. That club is not the Field of Dreams, build it and they will come. Give us something to be excited about. Seriously, with all that is going on in this town, they risk being forgotten. I live here, and I almost forget about them all the time when telling people about the clubs here. Get on it people!

Too much competition for them by December with the new venues.

I think that they were finished before they ever opened their doors. Free-standing nightclubs are a thing of the past. If a club doesn't have a casino backing it, it will not succeed in Las Vegas.

True....with the exception of ICE...

Even though ICE is closing their doors in the future, they're not closing b/c of lack of profits or following, which proves that a freestanding club can make it in vegas given the correct management & marketing. However as the past has shown it's not an easy task.

That's nonsense. Ice is doing great. The only reason they're closing is because someone bought the land on which they sit.

Ice succeeds because they have a gimmick, but Ice doesn't do as well as it could in a casino. They bring in top name dj's, where other nightclubs in Las Vegas don't. They have to bring in top names otherwise their business would be depleated along with the rest of the free standing clubs. I know from working for Utopia, unless great dj's come into the club, free standing clubs don't have a chance against nightclubs in casinos.

Thats crazy, a gimmick they have is bringing in top name dj's, why didnt all the other clubs in the world think of this?

You my friend are clueless, and opitimize what is wrong w/ clubs in Vegas... anyone who goes to Vegas and asks me for refrences on vip hosts, your name will surely be last.

Bringing in DJs like Roger Sanchez, Erick Morillo, Mark Farina, Kaskade and Sasha is a gimmick? That's interesting.

djmasterweb will become famous soon enough
Free standing clubs in Vegas can definitely succeed if they are marketed properly. Perfect example is the club where I reside, OPM. The place is packed wall to wall each week without big name djs, and does not have a casino backing. The fact that its located in a closed mall doesn't give it an advantage. No, it is marketed well, positioned well with a niche, and succeeds more than most clubs in town without the huge dollars behind it.

However you can rest assured if a place like OPM doesn't do all those things right, bankruptcy is always looming straight ahead.

Masterweb, I don't consider the club that you spin for, OPM, to be a free-standing club. It is not backed by a casino, but I'm quite sure that more people hear about OPM because it is in Caesar's Palace, than would hear about Ice on Koval and Harmon.

Don't get me wrong. Ice is a great club, but would they really have the pulling power that they do if they didn't bring in top name dj's? Probably not. Ice took over where the old Utopia left off, catering to a certain genre of people who are, in my opinion, real clubgoers wanting to hear real music instead of the "popular music" that most other people want to hear. We get a lot of VIP requests for Pure, Rain, Tangerine, etc. Most of the time, people contacting us have no clue about who's spinning, nor do they care. They want to go to the club that they have heard so much about.

I'm not at all optimizing what is wrong with clubs in Las Vegas. The only statement that I made is that free-standing nightclubs won't last against nightclubs in casinos. Empire Ballroom is a perfect example. They just recently opened and they are struggling. If the Empire Ballroom was in a casino, not necessarily getting backed by them, they would probably be doing more business than they are now just because of the added foot-traffic.
