Places to live advice?

My gf and I will be moving to LV in early 2007 and we're looking for some advice on areas of the city to move to. We're looking to buy a townhouse/condo in a nice neighborhood in the 275-300K range.

Any help is appreciated and I look forward to meeting some of you after the move.

Brian

DEpends on how close to the strip you want to live. I would look around painted desert. Anywhere west of rainbow is going to be a good investment

Re: Places to live advice?

Thanks. We want to be somewhat close to the strip but not right on top of it. Still just learning the surrounding areas.

Re: Places to live advice?

Thanks limodriver, I'll look into those. I'll be in town in a few weeks and plan on spending a day looking around.

Mike, my gf is an accountant and is getting transferred there. Im an IT consultant but I work from home for a company in Boston so it doesn't matter where I live.

Here's a link to a message board dedicated to people who are or have moved to Vegas, there also a resident real estate broker who's very nice & will help you (through e-mails) decide what areas are good Move To Las Vegas Discussion Board

I was thinking about moving there and that website was very helpful, as was the real estate agent who helped me out even though she new I wasn't definitely coming.

This is her personal website: LAS VEGAS NEVADA Real Estate here you can see how cheap housing is compared to the east coast

Re: Places to live advice?

If you are looking for a condo/townhome and in that price range...Summerlin is a great place. You wont get a standalone home for that price usually...but the area is Northwest and is very quiet and typically has the best "fit and finish" in the valley. I have lived Southwest and East and its by far the best move I have ever made....

Re: Places to live advice?

You might try renting for a few months; take some time to explore the ciity and see where you want to live. Most of the people I know, the longer they've been in Vegas, the farther from the Strip they live. That may be just because the new developments are all at the edge of town, but I know a lot of people who haven't been to the Strip in years.

I also live in the northwest... it's a quick drive to the Strip (at night), close to Red Rock park, and is only about 25 minutes from the ski area. Good shopping areas, and I can always cross Rainbow going east if I want to slum it :-).
