Where has all the good trance gone?
shit is dope. Worth every penny..........
Final Scratch is handy, you get to have the interface of vinyl without lugging around massive quantities of records.
You're up on PCs, so creating an ext2 partition to install it on shouldn't be a problem. If it is, grab a copy of Partition Magic, and it'll do it for you.
Stryke uses it extensively, I'm sure he can comment on it from a DJ perspective.
Yes yes.... up to my neck in tech stuff but there were some issues initially with time code syncs that caused a delay.....Originally posted by pod

I plan on getting it when I can actually mix.
I've seen Stryke use and its great. I've seen Hawtin use it as well. It seems its only the techno guys who have hopped on it but I think it could be for everyone.

They constantly update it, and plenty of DJs are using it without complaint, so I'm sure the delay is gone![]()
ive seen craze use it flawlessly..
now a days he only shows up for gigs with a handful of records & a laptop..thats the big advantage..
i think if your play out alot then its great, but if u dont then i'm not sure if it worth the investment..
but then again what do i know.. i cant match a beat for shite

hey attomic,
I'm sponsored by Stanton/Final Scratch, and also am always in touch w/ the tech dept. over there when need be. I've helped a couple of friends debug and troubleshoot their laptops. I myself have had no problems w/ my setup. I'd be happy to help you out however I can. let me know the following info:
Laptop brand/model #
hard drive space
amount of RAM
the exact problems you're having and steps you've already taken
(including updates)
i will try to help you out however I can.

Hey Greg, can you post like a mini-review of the system? Pros/cons, etc...![]()
ur a dj ur job is to lug records around u pussy loll
come on atleast cdss
forget computer crap
I haven't really checked out the Final Scratch yet, Being a vinyl junkie I'm still not even a fan of cds, Nothing like having the vinyl for easying cuing, organization etc. CDs are nice to bring a library of music that you only access from time to time(also good for looping and other effects only available on cd). But I'd have to agree, if you can't lug your vinyl, hit the gym or retire. The average flight case full of vinyl weighs between 47-50 lbs. With part of a library on cds and 2 or 3 cases of vinyl, you should be able to do any set. I just don't see myself djing with a computer.

Well, you all know that Final Scratch is basically a playback software, using your laptop/computer as hardware, along w/ a digital/analog converter. You play the tracks via Final Scratch records, which are encoded with time code, which allows your files (mp3s, wav, etc...) to follow along with whatever changes you make (pitch, scratching, backspins, etc...). Here are my pros and cons:
PROS:
the ability to carry a HUGE library of music w/out lugging vinyl around,
the ability to try out tracks/edits directly from the laptop w/out having to first burn them to cd
the ability to playback digital media the same way you would using a normal record
Using the built in record boxes to organize your music is amazing.
CONS:
Final Scratch can be a little testy on certain laptops.
Setup requires you to be at the club early (yuk)
Final Scratch is a little testy with certain needles (Stanton 680s and 890s work great)
Most people think that Final Scratch gives them license to freely download music (THAT'S NOT WHAT IT'S FOR!!!! I still buy my music and transfer it to the system)
Transferring music to the laptop takes a bit o' time (but saves you time @ the club)
Oscar G. continues to make fun of me for using it... (That's the worst con of all...trust me...lol)
