Post Ultra Review (It's Good To Be The Funk)

I was reading xxgrooverichxx's review of Ultra and I was going to reply on his thread...but, my sentiment about Sunday's shindig is very different, starting with the fact that my friend Pam got my friends and me in for free through the Crobar Vip, I didn't spend a penny and had lots of fun.
Great idea to have it at the convention center, it was chill with the air-conditioner, plus it rained, so if it had been outdoors, the whole thing would have gone to shit...it looked amazing, with the giant screens and the lasers beaming at ya.
Full bar, that was cool too, had a couple of rum&cokes and another couple of vodka w/ redbull...just right to refresh, it was no place or situation to get partied-out...
I have to say the police and the fire rescue of the city of miami beach did a great job, they were unobstrussive and basicly just very cool, they seemed to like the fact that order was reigning at the event...finally, someone came up with a great idea...Ultra at the convention center is something to see and definitively, something to show.

I thought Groove Armada did a great job setting things up for Paul Van Dyk...all djs were in a very good mood and as far as I could see, evryone there was loving it too...I'm sorry if anyone who went to Ultra had a bad time...apparently, I went to my own private Ultra and loved it!

Hey man, the FUNK had a great time?

Awesome man! I see a lot of people had a great time, which is a great thing. I'm happy for all who did. My reasons for it not being so great I'll reveal later on in detail.

Everyone has a bad day, and it happen to be Ultra.

    OK, here goes...

First of all, I'm not into the ripping people off thing. For $65 at the door, not worth it at all. Maybe if it was the real Ultra during WMC and then it's a little more acceptable, but not for this party.

Second, the whole thing with the "beach" thing. I don't blame them for this, but it still sucks that it wasnt on the beach like advertised. I know many people were going just for this reason and were stuck with what they got.

Third, production. I'm sorry, the production was horrible. For the price people paid, they should have gotten a lot more than what was given. I've seen bad ass productions with less budget and left people in awe. And not to forget, they only had 1 stage, not 2 like they advertised AFTER the relocation. The plus I do give is the green lasers. I just love them!

Fourth, 1 stage instead of 2. This is self explanitory.

Fifth, sound. There was no bass!!! DJ Icey was throwing down some nasty shit, and I didn't feel it Also, too much feedback; they did bad job tweaking the sound system. There was a loud "hum" most of the time I was there. Not sure if they fixed it or not by the end of the night.

Well, this is one man's opinion, take it for what you want.

Glad to hear that Groove Armada was good, was there a recording? Pics? Anything?? That was the only reason that i wanted to go after they decided that they weren't gonna have it on the beach.....and yes I do agree that $65 is pretty steep.

Well Funketeer, glad you saw things from a different perspective, but I guess you didnt look at things from the poing that "YOU GOT IN FREE" to VIP and all the little lucky things you might have had. But for those that paid that crazy price expecting to what they saw on the ad.. its a different story.Also.. you mentioned that it rained, well, If Ultra had taken place on the day, to me, it was a beautifull day, and by the time that Ultra would've finiished ( 11PM ) .. there were alot of of hours left till the rain came. ( IT RAINED close to 12 and tours the wee hours ).. just to be more especific in means of excusing a bit Ultra not been outdoors. he... not trying to be an ass, but a little bit of a perfectionist . Also.. Groove Armada played this one tune that I loved tours the end, trancey one.. its on one of Oakenfold CD"s.
