dotmusic: Paul has to dash back into the studio now but watch out for loads more celebrity chats over the coming weeks.
Paul: I'd like to thank all the people who have supported me and bought the CD and loom forward to spending time with them wherever they are. And remember it's all about you the clubbers...
Paul: ..in and out every week
Paul: Yeah I was really proud of them 'cos it was me DJing for a longer set and we showcased young and new DJ's and it was more of an international club rather than an English club. At the moment I'm not going to do it next year ';cos it was exhausting flying..
Scott Macdonald from Glasgow asks: How pleasing were the Perfecto @ Pacha nights? The Steven McCreery one was immense!!!
Paul: I haven't got a type yet 'cos I haven't heard anything that I think will become an anthem
Thomas from Copenhagen asks: what would be your tip of the Y2K anthem?
Paul: Generally the clubs dictate how long you play and who's playing and when Perfecto ran it's own night in Ibiza I would play for 5 to 6 hours every Tuesday. I think becuase the clubs try and cram alot of Dj's in it's hard to play for more than 2 or 3 hours.
dotmusic: Paul has time for just a couple more questions....
Juancarlos from Philadelphia asks: Why do the majority of your sets only run for 3 hrs. or less?
Paul: No not at the moment
mad wax from denver, co asks: In the mid 90s, you released a series of fantastic goa trance records on your Fluoro sub label. While I understand you have moved on from representing goa, have you considered released a new Fluoro sublabel with more underground trance?
Paul: I think the succes of these records is down to those records becoming very popular with the clubbers. Italian music is hit and miss. Sometimes it's good and soemtimes it's not but that's the same with any type of music
Charlie from Italy asks: I run a small label in Italy and would love to know your thoughts on the success of Spiller and Eiffel65? Is it dance or is it worse?
Paul: No but my friend Nicky Holloway would! I don't personally.
John from Bristol asks: Would you consider DJing with MP3s?
Paul: It should be availbale through EDEL - if not go to an import shop and get one there
Youri from Eindhoven...... The Netherlands asks: No cd*s off you or Perfecto are availble in musicstores in Holland. Could you please arrange something so that Dutch OakeyLovers can by you*re music, without having to steal you*re music from internet. another thing: I loved you're set's @ Space Ibiza
Paul: They are safer than cars, don't think about the negative and think of the positive and try and get over the fear of flying
ian from London asks: Im scared of flying although I have flown so many times..you must fly everywhere for sets...whats the worst experience youve had on an aircraft ?
Paul: Probably it would be a KORGZ1 - a keyboard that has wonderful and weird sounds
ian from London asks: when you do remixes or make your own records, what one piece of equipment or software could you never do without ?
Paul: I was involved in HOME in London so I've already done that but no more plans
Scott Macdonald from Glasgow asks: Would you ever consider going down the route that other djs have taken and open your own club?
Paul: There's no truth in that. I'm spending more time in the US next year and Chicago is one of my fave places but there's no live act
back2basics from Chicago asks: I herd about you comming back to the US with a live act, whats going on with that?
Paul: I have no plans to work with them at the moment
Danny from montreal asks: will you work again with New Order ?
Paul: yeah...didn't think it'd be as big as it was. I'm glad it's being released in 18 countries
Josh from Hinckley, England asks: Hi Paul, just wondering if you suprised about how successfull your Big Brother Single was, I mean its not everyday a theme tune to a TV show does as well as yours is it?
Paul: I'm a fully qualified chef so I'd be working in a hotel or resturant cooking food
Thomas from Copenhagen asks: Strange question, but what would you be doing today if you weren't dj'ing?
Paul: None at all. I've been in the top 2 for the last 5 years and I've DJ-ed less in the UK and more in the US so I'm really happy
back2basics from Chicago asks: paul any regrets at being knocked off the top spot by Sasha in the DJ mag poll?
Paul: I'd have as much fun as possible and spend as much money as possible and be with my friends and family
Teresa from Long Island : ) asks: If you had 24 hours to live, what would you do?
Paul: Simply the ones that I like. Anything that I like from the hundreds that I get sent loads!
adamski from adam@germainroad.fsnet.co.uk asks: When sifting through all the tracks you get sent, what makes you decide which ones you'll play?
Paul: Could be Israel - I like because they do national service and when they come out they seem to be more up for it!!!!
amir from lancashire asks: which country do you thing is the most mad for it when it comes to TRANCE.
Paul: Yeah..I know him yeah. Why won't I be?
Scott Macdonald from Glasgow asks: Are you still good friends with Robert Smith (The Cure)?
Paul: Absolutely, it will. I don't know when (with radio) but I do believe that it will
CHET from Los Angeles asks: Do you think the US will catch up to Europe in the electronica scene? btw, i love your set at Nocturnal Wonderland! Please come back to LA, we love you here!
Paul: It's a very dfficult question 'cos alot of them I like but they are perfect as they are so why remix them - Nirvana 'Teen Spirit', U2 'With Or Without You', The Doors 'Riders'
ian from London asks: if you could remix any rock track ever, which one would you plump for ?
Paul: Tunes by the Beatles, U2, RUN DMC, Bob Marley, Nirvana, Beastie Boys, Prodigy...
Sail from Cambridge asks: What are your favourite tunes of the 70s, 80s and 90s?
Paul: It never came out. It was never released. They couldn't clear the sample. I certainly liked it
Dave Pountney (dmpountney@hotmail.com) from London asks: Whatever happened to the track you used to open your sets with a couple of years ago - Kelly & Lee's "Only You"? I know other tracks have used the same sample from the original by Praise, but that version was far superior! |
