INTRO

What are we gonna do about this whole Rudy thing? After years and years of
attempted character assassination, it's all of a sudden out of fashion to
attack the mayor! Talk about lucky breaks in an election year. A week ago,
Rudy was slipping in the polls and his wife was about to take center stage
off-Broadway in The Vagina Monologues. Seven days later, he's a courageous
everyman, she's canceled the play and Hillary's cowering in her carpetbag.
That which doesn't kill Rudy makes him stronger. We'd bet our caberet
licenses on it.

The Frying Pan

This Saturday in New York City will be the first annual Take Back The
Decks Festival, combining hip-hop and dance music with education and
hands-on instruction. It's happening this Saturday, May 6th on The Frying
Pan, an antique boat, and on Pier 63 (one pier north of Chelsea Piers) on
two stages. Everyone who attends will get a vinyl EP called I Got All My
Sisters With Me, featuring four tracks from the performing
artists. Here's how it'll all go down:

6pm-9pm

The event is all ages, free, and open to the public. At this time, all
of artists performing will be giving tutorials and answering questions
about how to:

1) Be a DJ
2) Beat-match
3) Scratch
4) Write lyrics
5) Freestyle
6) Put out your own records

At the same time, there will be the NYC premiere of a new documentary about
women in hip-hop called "Nobody Knows My Name."

9pm-midnight

This is when the performances begin. On the outdoor stage will be Kuttin
Kandi and DJ Shortee. Following will be sets by hip-hop MC's Apani B Fly
Emcee, Jean Grae (formerly known as What? What?), and The Anomolies
(featuring Kandi on the decks, three rappers, and three b-girls breaking).
Meanwhile in the boat will be DJ sets from DJ Anna (beats and breaks), DJ
Rehka (sounds from the Asian underground), and The Spinsters (underground
beats). An $8 donation is requested at the door.

midnight-4am

The party moves inside the boat, beginning with SuperJane, featuring DJ
Colette and DJ Dayhota doing a tag-team set of Chicago House as Colette
sings on top of the records she plays. Then Detroit's great Kelli Hand
finishes the night with a banging set of her own tracks.
