| Friday, 11.30.2007 - Physical Education w/ guest DOZIA Friday, 30 November 2007, Physical Education brings you Ovum Recordings artist... DOZIA ![]() Every city's club scene has its secret weapon. New York has Joe Claussell, Toronto has Freaky Flow and Sneak, San Fran has Mark Farina and Philadelphia has Dozia Blakey. You might not know him, but his music is familiar to DJs and club people worldwide. Tunes like the hypnotic 'Pop Kulture', the smoothness of 'Steal Away' or the deepness of 'Shape Shifter', has made him a household name in the industry. In 1987, Dozia started his first residency at the Black Banana, a private and trendy club in Philadelphia. The clientele was the who's who of Philadelphia. Dozia bartended as well as dj'd, mixing records and drinks. After building his celebrity following, he started what was to be a legendary Philly party called Vagabond. This was a party that moved from club to club spreading the deep house and techno "Steal Away" sounds all around the Philly scene. 4 years running, the party included DJs Josh Wink, King Britt and Boy Blake At the end of Vagabond, Dozia went on to continue legendary status at the infamous 'Back to Basics' parties at Silk City. There, he and cohort King Britt brought the sounds of sweet soul and acid jazz to Philly. Dozia also played a few dates with Digable Planets and started doing remixes and production for labels. His first remix was one for IRMA records Italy for "All I Want to Do" by Deep Aural Penetration. Soon after he started making his own tracks for his own imprint 'Nou Lion Recordings'. The Aura EP with King Britt, "Steal Away" and "Shape Shifter" brought Nou Lion and Dozia into the spotlight worldwide. Then "Pop Kulture" on OVUM RECORDINGS gained Dozia much respect from DJ Sneak, Doc martin, and Trevor Rockliffe as a world class producer. He most recently remixed Danny Tenaglia's "Elements" for the upcoming Twisted Secrets compilation. He also recently completed a remix of David Alvarado's "Klugh" released on Ovum Recordings. After playing the Winter Music Conference 7 years in a row, Dozia started to travel, spreading the sound of Philadelphia. Playing regularly in Atlanta, Florida, New York and Germany he is now a new name to watch out for. along with resident Dirty Gym Teachers: Jenn Louie Darrel Asbury Jamie Johnson 11pm til real fuckin late! enrollment fee waived til 2:00am drink specials til 2:00am www.myspace.com/physicaleducationphilly |
