okay, here's what i'm doing I am going to arrange a little monthly competition, and i am rounding up participants. Nothing is settled, so I'm still looking for input on how to make this work just right. But here's the deal. I want this to go off on a Saturday afternoon, starting maybe around 2 or 3. I can get the lep for it, or it can be anywhere. It's to be a head to head loop production/mixing competition. Here's how I see it. Suggestions are welcome. Rules of the game. -Each producer has 4 loops/patterns to beat his component with. -Only 1 pattern may be used for each turn -Turn order is decided by a coin toss, and the winner of the toss can choose to go first, or second. -your gear will be plugged into 1 channel of a 2 channel mixer -first player will be given a set amount of time to play a pattern -second player will have to beat match and mix into his pattern -players will alternate for 4 turns each, without duplicating a pattern. -crowd decides the winner. -there will be time limits for mixes, and loop playing. Requirements -you are allowed (expected) to bring prepared loops/patterns -there will be two levels to compete at, novice and advanced. -your equipment must be rigged and ready to plug into a line level left/right phono input. -computers/laptops are allowed -you cannot play a prerecorded song, all music must be generated live on the spot. basically, what I am hoping for is live jamming on loops, rather than just playing a repeated pattern. Of course, it's mainly a case of letting the crowd be the judge of what's best. I think this could be fun, and I think it would be great to get all the home producers together once a month to compete, talk shop, and hopefully come away with some bragging rights. now who's interested? who's got suggestions?

Now he's taking his career in a new direction. With his Mojolators project poised to blow up worldwide, he's ready to begin his assault on dance floors as a producer and remixer. With only a brief discography, Justin Nichols and the Mojolators are already refining a house sound that pleases DJs across the 4/4 spectrum. From his Brooklyn studio, Nichols pastes together samples and live instruments to make music that takes in everything from jazz to techno. Nichols ended 2000 on a strong note, with his "Carnival" 12" on Catalyst records getting another great response. Now in 2001, "Drifting'" still lives on. Look for the Mojolators to attack the charts with a red-hot vocal version due on Portent Records in summer 2001. Tipped by the BBC as one of the biggest tunes from the 2001 WMC and getting play from the top UK DJs, "Drifting'" appears headed for crossover success and endless Ibiza memories. In the states, Nichols is setting up his own label, Club Recordings, with roommate and fellow producer Jason "Jinx" Zambito. Nichols plans to launch the label with a co-production by the two bosses before moving on to solo productions and work by other producers. He also keeps a busy DJ schedule, traveling coast to coast to drop sets ranging everywhere from deep house to bangin' Chicago tracks.
