some of you kids really don't know what

Back in the day when clubland

was a freak show...

ahhhhh

memories...

attachment.php?s=&postid=1064958

"BACK IN THE DAY ONE OF MY

FAVORITE NIGHTS OUT HAD TO BE AT "DISCO 2000",

THE WEEKLY WEDNESDAY NIGHT PARTY HELD AT LIMELIGHT;

A FORMER CHURCH WITH STAINED GLASS WINDOWS AND ALTER.

IT WAS SO REFRESHING TO SEE EVERYBODY PARTYING TOGETHER AT THIS CLUB---BLACKS, WHITES, LATINOS, GAYS, STRAIGHTS, BI'S, DRAG QUEENS, FREAKS, YOU NAME IT, THEY WERE ALL THERE! EACH MONTH "DISCO 2000" WOULD BRING YOU THE BEST PARTIES.

ONE OF THE MORE POPULAR ONES, WAS "EMERGENCY ROOM", WHERE A LIL ROOM WOULD BE SET UP LIKE A DOCTORS OFFICE, AND SOME OF THE KIDS WOULD DRESS UP AS DOCTORS AND NURSES AND THEN PRESCRIBE YOU MEDICATION--ECSTASY AND ROHYPINOLS (ROOFIES)! AND THE LATE NIGHT HOT, HOT, HOT BODY CONTEST HOSTED BY LAHOMA AND LARRY TEE, WHERE THE AUDIENCE VOLUNTEERED TO TAKE OFF THEIR CLOTHING FOR BIG, BIG CASH PRIZES--$50 BIG BUX! "DISCO 2000"

WAS ALSO THE HOME OF THE FAMOUS PEE-DRINKER. THIS KID WOULD GET UP ON STAGE, PEE IN A CUP AND THEN DRINK IT IN FRONT OF A HORRIFIED AUDIENCE! RESIDENT DJ, AND GOOD FRIEND SUPERSTAR DJ KEOKI WOULD SPIN AND WORK THOUSANDS IN THE DANCE FLOOR WITH HIS SLAMMIN' SET OF ACID TRANCE. "DISCO 2000" WAS DA BOMB!

YOUR HOST FOR THIS NIGHT WAS A BUNCH OF FREAKY KIDS WHO CALLED THEMSELVES "CLUB KIDS". THEY DRESSED UP IN CRAZY-WACKY, BUT FABULOUS COSTUMES, FIVE-FOOT PLATFORM SHOES, AND GOT PAID MAD $ TO SHOW UP AND HOST THE NIGHT.

SOME OF THESE CREATURES WENT BY NAMES LIKE RICHIE RICH, WALT PAPER, DESI MONSTER, JENNYTALIA, ASTRO ERLE, DESIRE, SUSHI, JAMES ST JAMES, CHRIS COMP, KABUKI, SACRED, AMANDA LAPORE, SOPHIA LAMAR, LOLLIPOP, CHLOE AND CHANEL, KENNY KENNY, OLYMPIA, ETC....THIS CLUB KID CULTURE STARTED IN NYC THEN SPREAD ALL OVER THE WORLD. THE RINGLEADER AND FOUNDER OF THESE KIDS WAS A LIL TWISTED MONSTER WHO I CAME TO KNOW REALLY WELL, HIS NAME WAS MICHAEL ALIG."

attachment.php?s=&postid=1064968

MICHAEL HIT THE CLUB SCENE WITH A BANG

IN THE MID 80'S, AND WAS KNOWN AS NYC's

BEST PROMOTER.

HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR SOME OF

DOWNTOWN'S BIGGEST PARTIES.

MICHAEL ALIG DREW THOUSANDS OF YOUNG

PEOPLE TO CLUBS LIKE HIS FAMOUS "DISCO 2000"

AND OUTLAW PARTIES. HIS OUTLAW PARTIES WERE HELD EVERYWHERE, FROM SUBWAY STATIONS TO MACDONALD'S.

FOR YEARS MICHAEL AND THE CLUB KIDS WERE THE UNDISPUTED CENTER OF THE WORLD, APPEARING ON THE COVER OF MAGAZINES, NEWSPAPERS, AND TV TALK SHOWS LIKE GERALDO, DONAHUE, RICHARD BEY, AND JERRY SPRINGER.

MICHAEL MADE NO SECRET OF HIS DRUG USE IN THE DAYS OF "DISCO 2000" AND "TUNNEL". HE WOULD APPEAR WITH DRINK TICKETS + BAGS AND VILES OF DRUGS IN EACH HAND (WHICH HE WOULD THEN PASS OUT TO ALL OF US).

ONE OF HIS FAVORITE FORMS OF GREETINGS WAS TO SAY "OPEN YOUR MOUTH", WHERE UPON MICHAEL WOULD POP A HIT OF ECSTASY OR ROHYIPINOL IN YOUR MOUTH! HE WAS SO MUCH FUN TO HANG OUT WITH, IF HE WASN'T CAUSING TROUBLE OR CREATING DRAMA, HE WAS BEING CHASED BY CRACK DEALERS OR COPS.

THIS KID ALWAYS HAD SOMETHING UP HIS SLEEVE, LIKE THE TIME HE CALLED IN A BOMB THREAT TO THE AIRPORT SO HE AND THE CLUB KIDS WOULDN'T MISS THEIR FLIGHT, OR THE TIME'S HE PEED IN PEOPLES DRINKS, THIS PARTICULAR STUNT WAS A FAVORITE OF MICHAEL. HIS FASCINATION WITH HORROR MOVIES LED HIM TO HIS "BLOOD FEAST" PARTIES THAT WERE HELD AT "DISCO 2000".

MICHAEL AND THE KIDS WOULD DRENCH THEMSELVES IN BLOOD, THEN RUN AROUND SHOCKING AND ENTERTAINING GUEST. IN HIS PORN FEST PARTY, HE AND THE KIDS HOSTED THE NIGHT COMPLETELY NAKED! THE PEOPLE LOVED IT! THEY WENT BACK FOR MORE EACH WEEK, MAKING "DISCO 2000" ONE OF THE HOTTEST CLUBS IN NYC.

But see that's my point..

clubland feels like a bar

in Hoboken these days...

Or a JOCKROCK concert.

WHERE ARE ALL

THE CLUB KIDS AT?

Why aren't there new ones?

(Electro's got them but that's about

it these days.)

michael alig IS a smuck..

an ASS..and he got what he deserved..

But Alig was also VERY, Verrry fun

at the start of it all...

(I too say this from personal experience)

His parties had an aura and

circus vibe that is loong gone in

clubland these days and I miss it

dearly.

ALL the clubkids where

mondo fucked up

and retarded..lol*

But they sure knew

how to turn a party into

an experience you wouldn't forget

any time soon...

Music's first..

But all phazon shit aside

DISCO 2000's freaks

added an element that

I wish would come back to NYC.

NY got too pretty

too quick..

it needs to stop

trying to take itself so

seriously and be so

faaaabulouse.

GET FREAKY KIDS!

so

change it all back...

stop giving mediocrity your $$$...

If you look for the "other"

you will find it...

Support it..

add to it...

MAKE IT HAPPEN!

(If I had cash to fund

a party say with: "Fischerspooner"

and the "Things to come" gang..

hire freaks to dance and rent out

a place like "Combustive arts"

Promote it right and turn it

into a monthly' with rotating DJs

I'd do it...)

but for now all I can do is

support stuff that makes

CLUBLAND interesting by

promoting and attending it..

and staying the FUCK

away from ubber clubs that want

my money.

I don’t think it's the guidos who beat them up and took over the dance floors, it's more like all the pretentious wannabe pseudo intellectual music snobs who bitch and complain about everything and that have turned away all the freaks. They try to turn dance floors into some sort of type SOHO wannabe art gallery justifying some bullshit art. I didn’t go to many times to DS2000, but it was about having fun. People didn’t get all dressed up and then go to place and not dance, complain about the track selection and how the music wasn’t “blowing their mind awayâ€!! People wanted to have a great time and did everything to have a good time – now everyone bitches and complains about the scene – everyone hates this style or that and says this is cheese and that DJ sucks and blah blah blah!!! IT’S ALL THE SNOBS WHO HAVE DESTROYED THE SCENE.

imho, theres no more club kid type partys anymore, because theres no more underground scene in nyc anymore. everything is in the internet etc, so nothing stays cool and underground. lots of schmucks show up. did any of you go to club nation, to the panel discussions?? if you did, you might have seen/heard the people they had there from clubplanet mangement/ownership. they are a perfect example of whats wrong with cluibbing these days. its not the website thats the problem , its the attitude of the people behind the website. the transcrips must be somewhere in cyberspace. they were pitiful

I guess my Nostalgia about "Club

Kids" is based primarily on a desire for

a more CREATIVE circus-freak show like

atmosphere to return to clubs.

This being said

I also agree about MOVING FORWARD.

Learning from mistakes is crucial and

lord knows these kids endangered many

lives with their drugs and in the end

wound up even taking one down

their downward spiral...

I yearn for the

CARNY..the side show freaks..

the "EXPERIENCE" that goes

beyond the usual night at ARC.'

Sure I love music..

We are the dancers in a giant

Bonn fire ritual..

For which the Music is the flame

(and each of us choose our

tribes and feathers)

But I do prefer the

ceremonies that transform

the world into something

beyond our everyday lives..

The club kids did this for me..

They made me forget I

was on Earth..

They made CLUBBING feel

like I had taken off and

landed on another planet

(with or without the

drugs)

YES music first...

YES move on...

But looking back is

not living in the past..

Nostalgia can breed

improvements.

How else can we learn from mistakes

if we only look ahead and stumble

clumsily and forget our roots...

Many elements made

the Club kids move

out of the "UBBER CLUBS"...

INCLUDING TOO MANY

"snobs", "Jocks"

Velvet rope ellitisism

and the "No sneaker" no glowsticks

mentality that spread across NY...

(Plus Gulliani didn't help either)

But if you look

hard enough you will find there

are still places that hold this spirit..

Of course If I told you

I'd have to kill you.

(Oh and Crobra...

Quit getting all PLUR on

me man...)

LOL leave the planet earth 4 sure. you should have gone to the grateful dead shows in the late 60's and early 70's made the club kid scene look like gerber baby food. music, vibe, etc etc., oh yeah, a few drugs involved as well kesey and the pranksters were the prototype for all the freakshows that came after

I'm more of a VELVET UNDERGROUND

Kinda guy when it comes to rock...

I think I'd stay the hell away from hippies

if I where alive back then..

(I'd probably be hanging with Warhol

and the art fags)

The dark freakinsh element that used to exist at places like Tunnel and Limelight surely are gone. It was fun while it lasted.

I think I miss the eccentric energetic fashion shows the most...

However times have changed. Let's be honest, the money to support those types of parties were built either on drug money or crazy rich types.

Try throwing a party like that now: full of the cool artsy 'clubkid' types who would be considered industry people who wouldn't even pay for a cover. And especially in this economy now I don't see it happening.

As for velvet elitism, I think it was far worse then. Getting on a guestlist was far harder then and getting hand picked by the doorman to get into the party was usually the way it was.

Mugz if you ever decide to try to start up a party with the "CREATIVE circus-freak" vibe, let me know, I'd be up for helping see it come alive.

peace

  • 2 years later...

Hi there :o)

I know i'm a bit late, but .... where can i find more pictures of these giant platform shoes?!

I'm from germany and here, a few years ago, people wore some stupid normal plateau shoes like maximum a few inch.. and they didn't really dressed up or something like that...

So a good friend from chicago have some (in my opinion) big shoes with about 1 foot platform... so i just read above that there where much bigger ones... :o)

Please give me some information or links about that stuff.. with pictures or perhaps some tips how to build such shoes?

Thanks for your help,

greetz

Chris

Welll, what a fun and intersting thread. Mug you have such a cool and positive outlook, YOU should try and start a night somewhere. I'd support you, I'm sure lots of other people would too.

Where are they now.....

Kenny Kenny is working at duvet on thursdays, cain on wednesdays, does the door at opaline on fridays...those are the parties I know he does.

I don't know if you wanna leave yur pvt email here on this thread, but we shoudl hang...there are other VERY COOL & FUN parties you need to know about & go to. Plus you need to meet the NEW kids of today.

Some of the clubs today are catching up with the times and are mixing it up, I heard Glo was looking to hire chic freaks (clubs kids want to be called that now) for their Fridays. Avalon is still supporting the kids. Crobar is the Pepsi-Cola of nightclubs. The new club Sol is bringing on the chic freaks. (Contact me if you wanna get on the list for any night at SOL.)

Don't be afrqaid to hit the big gay parties you hear about....their often the most fun and where you're more likely to find that element.

Peace & Hairgrease,

Cocoa Browne

The "VIP" room @ Opaline on Friday nights is kinda club-kiddish. It has a nice small feel to it, something that hasn't been spoiled yet. I've been going there for the past month and since it appears it's all about the music and dancing, and no longer the drugs (I could be ignorant and just missing this fact tho), it's really something to be seen and heard. Time Out (and forgive the reference) says the roof is where it's at but as far as I can tell there's no dancing up there and I'm sorry but that nulls and voids any scene for me.
