  1. mylexicon--i think the street date is sometime in august. the copy i have is through a label connection. i'm sure there are a bunch of copies circulating around...shouldn't be too hard to find if you are eager to hear it now. --dc
  2. I wouldn't rank his production skills up there with the artists who are producers first and djs second, like James Holden, Parks & Wilson, and the like, but it's a respectable effort. Good lounging music...no real dance-floor bombs, but it seems that, on their artist albums, DJs these days are trying to get away from the dancey stuff and want to be known for making good non-dance music, e.g., Oakenfold's Bunkka. Personally, I don't think that making dance music makes you less of a legitimate artist...I find dance music to be some of the most enlightening, artistic music out there. --DC
  3. Currently listening to a pre-release of "airdrawndagger," Sasha's first artist album. Pretty good stuff. I recommend that you pick it up when it's released. Deep and dark, but not excessively so. Sort of mellow and breezy, actually. Peace, David Christopher www.headrushmusic.com
  4. Thank God for phuturephunk and barvybe...I knew that you two would jump on this post eventually! (And I knew that you would understand what I was getting at.) Phuturephunk--I couldn't have said it better. I've seen way too many positive (or cynical) responses on this board and on NaughtyBooth...that just irks me to no end. We need to unify in our support for our culture and not just throw our hands up and let the government take it over. A 10-year-old girl just died from taking 5 ecstasy pills...you just know that is going to get traced back to the dance-music scene. (God, I hope that her dad isn't a rave promoter.) Public sentiment against our scene is swelling to an all-time high...don't let the uninformed make decisions for us. Peace, David Christopher www.headrushmusic.com (and, to echo an argument on an another thread, HeadRushMusic is not a f***in' drug reference!!!)
  5. ...and we wonder why "outsiders" have such shitty perceptions of the scene: http://www.rollingstone.com/features/featuregen.asp?pid=911 Notice the lack of any discussion of the music and art of the electronic dance music scene. It's all about what drugs are being done in which cities and who's had his dick sucked in the DJ booth. Ridiculous. Please write to Rolling Stone and tell them to put an end to this biased journalism. Peace, David Christopher www.headrushmusic.com
  6. Please, people, work it out. There is no much divisiveness and ill will in this scene. Stay focused on the big picture and be glad to be alive and enjoying the music. You never know when you're gonna go in this city... I have a lot of love for both parties involved in this dispute. I've heard both sides of the story, and it's unfortunate that things turned out the way they did. I don't feel like there were any malicious intentions from what I've heard. You can either choose to continue stewing about it and dividing yourself up into cliques, or you can deal with it like adults. This is not an issue that should be brought up on the boards and aired out in public. It's immature and rude. Rise above it, people. Peace, David Christopher www.headrushmusic.com
  7. Haven't heard of any. If you can, find a friend who knows how to spin. Buy a headphone splitter and listen in to what he/she is doing. Best to just start practicing on your own. You can't really be taught to process a monitor in one ear and a headphone in the other...it just takes time to get acclimated and separate the sounds in your brain. It also takes some time to figure out whether you need to speed up or slow down the incoming record...it will come with practice. Definitely best if you can play your monitor at a decent volume...otherwise, it can be difficult to learn how to mix. Don't touch the EQs for a while--learn to mix without them. In fact, I recommend starting off with a really shitty mixer without the bells and whistles so that you know what to do when you're in a club that doesn't have a fancy mixer. Figure out what it is you need before upgrading to the expensive stuff. Invest in good needles (Ortofons are nice), though, and a can of Groove Glide--that will protect your investment in vinyl. Good luck! David Christopher www.headrushmusic.com
  8. It's the dance version of "Biscuit" off of Dummy. Just heard Sandra Collins and Max Graham rock it the last two weekends. Would die for a copy. Peace, David Christopher www.headrushmusic.com
  9. agreed with the posters who mentioned getting better djs in there. don't waste the system on the usual cheese. shit is still shit, no matter how sweet it sounds. let's get some techno, tech-house, and dark prog up in there. --dc

  11. I actually think the vocals are quite nice. I guess it depends on what mood you're in. I believe that the vinyl double-pack has a version without the vocals, but it might be a remix. --DC
  12. I'll be dropping it tonight at Chaos. Visit www.headrushmusic.com for party info and guestlist. --David Christopher

  14. Okay, Chris is on my roster and all, but even I didn't expect him to tear up the Roxy main floor like he did the last time I heard him spin. His style definitely is not appropriate for the Roxy lounge...he is a main floor DJ, so get him out there. I was not expecting to see the response that he got when he opened for Johnny...the crowd was flipping. Truly a defining moment for Chris. Check the video if you don't believe me (ask Chris for a copy!). It's time for some new blood. Chris is not about the obvious tracks...he plays energetic tracks, but it's not mainstream goofy pop-trance. He plays some deep, solid, underground tracks. I think that some of Roxy's patrons could use some proper education (same goes for just about every other big club in NYC). Come on, Roxy -- get Chris back on the decks! --David Christopher www.headrushmusic.com
  15. Thanks for all the great thoughts, people. This is some serious shit. Parish--whaddup, bro. Where you been? Thanks for the congrats on the tracks...just finished remixing "Voices" for KC Flight...I'll get you a white label... --DC
