The underlying philosophy of Open Door is to provide great underground dance music in an intimate atmosphere for people looking to have fun. No drama, just good vibes. The tight friendship between JL, Naka, and Sean provided them with a solid foundation to build their musical partnership. The juxtaposition of their individual tastes and styles create a warm vibe covering a range of emotions, energies, and textures. Through their weekly Friday night party at Erico Café, the trio wander and explore the depths of the underground: classic and nouveaux disco, deep house, techno, and beyond.

JL’s style of contrasting emotive organic songs with edgier dance floor tracks comes from his love of soulful and deep house, minimal techno, and all things disco: classic and nouveaux. Naka’s love of music is apparent in his diverse library of music: from the moodiest techno to soulful, deep house, from classic disco to 80s new wave, from African rhythms to Latin grooves; all of which he presents in a sensible manner. Growing up listening to jazz, Motown classics, and hip hop has given Sean a solid musical background that provides dancers with a seamless blend of organic grooves, soulful house, and jazzed up beats.

Joining the residents from time to time in their underground explorations, Open Door has booked many local dj’s from legends such as Sam “The Man” Burns and Doug Smith to local favorites Stevie G and Moncef to offering talented up and coming dj’s a chance to shine. Without any disregard for the wealth of local talent, the residents have brought in several out of town dj’s who inject a fresh perspective – from London (Branwell H and Midi), to the critically acclaimed Darshan Jesrani of Metro Area, to friends from Chicago and New York. ADAMS MORGAN/WOODLEY PARK ZOO - RED LINE: Walk south on Connecticut Ave one block. Turn left on Calvert St and walk 3 blocks. Calvert will turn to the right and turns into 18th St. Walk 2 blocks past the McDonald's and the Blue Room will be on your left.

FROM BALTIMORE, PHILLY, & POINTS NORTH OF DC: Follow 95 South to 295 South; follow 295 South; get off on NY Ave.; drive approx. one mile on NY Ave.; Turn right on Florida Ave NE; drive approx. three miles on Florida Ave (will turn into U St. NW) to 18th St NW; turn right on 18th St; drive 2-3 blocks and the club will be on your right at 2321 18th St. NW.

FROM RICHMOND AND POINTS SOUTH OF DC: Take 95 North to 395 North to DC; follow 395 N to the left side Memorial Bridge exit. This will take you to the GW Parkway. Follow signs to Memorial Bridge (this is tricky - please pay attention otherwise you'll end up in Canada) and cross the Memorial Bridge into DC. You'll see the Lincoln Memorial in front of you. Get in the right lane and take the very first exit on your right. This will loop you onto Rock Creek Parkway. Stay on Rock Creek Parkway for about 2-3 miles; Take the left side Calvert St. exit (you will be going up a pretty steep hill); Turn right the top of the hill onto Calvert St. and cross Connecticut; Continue on Calvert until it veers right. You will see a McDonald's on your left and SunTrust Bank on your right. You are now on 18th St. NW. Drive 2 blocks and the club will be on your left at 2321 18th St. NW.

FROM NORTHWEST DC: Go south on Connecticut Ave NW towards Dupont Circle. Turn left on Calvert St just after the Woodley Park Zoo. Continue on Calvert until it veers right. You will see a McDonald's on your left and SunTrust Bank on your right. You are now on 18th St. Drive 2 blocks and the club will be on your left at 2321 18th St. NW.

FROM I-66: Take 66 East into Washington DC. Take the very first exit on your right (Independence Ave Exit). This will loop you onto Rock Creek Parkway. Stay on Rock Creek Parkway for about 2-3 miles; take the left side Calvert St. exit (you will be going up a pretty steep hill); turn right the top of the hill onto Calvert St. and cross Connecticut; continue on Calvert until it veers right.
