| KICKS LIKE A MULE! old skool night : ALIAS : NationDC This week [07.24]: is the first ALIAS old skool party - “Kicks Like A Mule”. Hear the musical roots of jungle/drum’n’bass and follow its early, yearly progression in the course of one night! Expect classic records that will appeal to people beyond the drum ‘n’ bass scene. Joey Beltram’s techno classic “Mentasm” gave d ‘n’ b its most identifiable trademark “hoover” sound. Techno/house artist Outlander on R & S records unleashed “Vamp” in early 1991, with riff-like stabs of “future-sound” that follow right behind “Mentasm” as another signature drum ‘n’ bass identifier. But it’s the classic late ‘91 - ‘93 era of UK breakbeat hardcore that really transformed the music into an entirely new monster. Long-standing drum ‘n’ bass record labels were born during this era and are still active today: Formation, Moving Shadow, Metalheadz, Reinforced and others. On this night you’ll recognize classic anthems from Prodigy, Messiah and 2 Bad Mice, but more importantly, expect to hear the more turbulent, junglized tunes of the time that are a source of inspiration to many of today’s d ‘n’ b producers. These more hardcore,“forgotten” records sound just as fresh to the ears of junglists and breakbeat junkies now as they did a decade ago. Collectively and prophetically they led to the ultimate übermensch of EDM in this post-rave, post-superstar-DJ era — the supreme survivor — drum ‘n’ bass! As they used to say back in ‘92, “hardcore will never die!” It mutates into new forms... Open bar, 2 for 1 admission and John Tab’s set all begin at 9 p.m. sharp. ………………………………………………………….……………………. can you identify:
