WHO WILL BE THE ULTIMATE SHAPE-SHIFTER?

Starting Thursday, August 21, any one of you could possibly SHAPE THE FUTURE of the local DC/B’more scene in our DJ COMPETITION. Thursday, Aug. 21 is the first round of DJ skirmishes – the other rounds are Thursday, Sept. 4, Thursday, Sept. 18, and Thursday, Oct. 2.

One winner from each night will be selected for ENDGAME – the final battle — on Thursday, Oct. 9. The end result: ALL participants have an opportunity to gain exposure to a wider audience, benefiting the local scene with their fresh talent and skills. They are our collective FUTURE. Entry Qualifications for the DJ BATTLE:

• You spin one of the following styles: jungle/drum ‘n’ bass, nu skool breaks, funky breaks, electro breaks, UK/2-step garage.
• You live in the DC/Baltimore metro area [a line that extends north to Philly and south to Richmond – the diameter of a circular region around DC/Baltimore].
• You have never spun ALIAS at NATION before August 1, 2003.
• You have the motivation to “advertise” yourself with CD’s, online mixes, promotion and the advantage of having an unlimited VIP reduced admission list the night(s) you spin. You need friends to cheer you on!
• NO MORE NOMINATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. THE CUT-OFF DATE WAS WED., AUG. 6!

There are 5 slots available each night: 09:00-10:30 | 10:30-11:30 | 11:30-12:30 | 12:30 – 01:30 | 01:30-02:30. This means there are a total of 20 slots available for the four run-off rounds.

Prizes [note all four finalists win a prize]:

• First Prize: $100 gift certificate to Capital City Records, a future gig at ALIAS, free guest list spots for two at ALIAS
• Second Prize: $50 gift certificate to Capital City Records, a future gig at ALIAS, free guest list spots for two at ALIAS
• Third Prize: $50 gift certificate to Capital City Records, a future gig at ALIAS
• Fourth Prize: a future gig at ALIAS

• All nominees are listed in a poll in the “un-Buzz events in DC/VA” forum on the Buzz messageboard: http://www.buzzlife.com/mssg_brd/sho...threadid=19674
• You must be registered at the Buzz messageboard in order to vote.
• You can vote for more than one DJ.
• Voting for the 20 slots [out of all the nominations] ends on Sunday, Aug. 17 at 11:59 p.m.
• The top 20 voted DJ’s will be randomly placed in timeslots to perform on one of the four Thursdays prior to the ENDGAME.
• During each of the 20 DJ’s performances, judges will listen for record selection, mixing abilities, phrasing, set programming and CROWD RESPONSE. You’ll have an advantage if you bring lots of friends to cheer you on. We make this easier for you by giving all those people $4 reduced admission the night you spin.

ADVICE: like anything in life, you have to actively pursue any opportunity to further yourself. This is not a popularity contest if YOU don’t let it be. Hand out demo CD’s, attend every local party you can, have your friends email their friends to email their friends and so on to alert people on various messageboards to links to your mixes. Announce any gigs at which you’re spinning. Once people are aware of your abilities, the more likely they will vote for you.
