| 04.06 Buzzlife Presents: Grandmaster Flash @ The 930 Club Tickets on sale now! www.wantickets.com/buzz and www.9:30.com ![]() Taken from VIBE magazine - Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five have become the first rap group ever inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They will be inducted in a ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC on March 12. Among those rock groups honored are Patti Smith, the Ronettes, REM, and the utterly beats-and-rhyme-neutralizing guitar heroes Van Halen. Head MC Mele Mel, who scribed seminal rap track "The Message" 25 years ago, stated, "Hip hop is long overdue to get its proper recognition with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'm proud to be finally recognized for the achievements we've made within the music industry and pop culture, not just recognized as hip hop pioneers." On his website, Grand Master Flash wrote, "This is bigger than me. This induction is total acceptance from one of the most prestigious music associations in the world. This induction says that for the decades of work that was put in which later co-created an entire culture, they honor us. It's a wonderful feeling to be remembered as one of the architects... of an idea the whole world fell madly in love with. It is called Hip Hop." |
