She spent her childhood in Vienna and Lower Austria learning to sing and studying music at an early age. After studying drama and acting in London for three years she returned to her hometown of Vienna and began working in the theatre. But she soon gave up acting when she realised she couldn't stand the profession. Her first professional step into the electronic music world was as a vocalist for Elin aka Autorepeat on 'Music Takes Me Higher' on Sabotage Records. Electric Indigo was able to convince Cassy to not only involve herself as a singer but to learn how to mix records. After her first DJ gigs in Vienna, Munich and further productions, she met Dave the Hustler in Geneva where they started working on a collaborative project for Mental Groove, Cassy & Dave the Hustler. Geneva was also where she met Luciano, co-producing 'La Ondita' on his album 'Blind Behaviour'. She also co-produced 'Alpine Rocket' with Mathew Jonson for Perlon. With her move to Berlin in March 2003, inspired by the clubscene and the numerous number of artists living there and the abundance of the music she fell in love with, she started becoming increasingly active in Berlin’s club scene and shortly after, became involved in projects with artists such as Steve Bug and Ricardo Villalobos. She also started her solo project, producing and singing. Since then, she has founded her own label, "Cassy", where she will be concentrating on releasing her own music, and she has recently finished her first mix compilation for Berlin’s Panoramabar, her club residency. ===> LINKS: Cassy's Website: http://www.cassybritton.com/ Cassy on MySpace (with music samples): http://www.myspace.com/cassydjandmusic Cassy's discography: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Cassy Ibiza-Voice interview w/ Cassy: http://www.ibiza-voice.com/story/news/1388 ===> MUSIC: Ibiza Voice Podcast - Live at Rex Club, Paris 04.19.08 http://www.ibiza-voice.com/sessions/media/Cassy_Ibiza_Voice_Podcast.mp3 Live at Panoramabar, Berlin 11.10.07 (streaming) http://tinyurl.com/5mvlj9 Cassy's most popular tracks on BeatPort: https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/artist/detail/5692/cassy ===> VIDEO: Live @ DEMF 2008, Detroit: Live @ Pawnshop, Miami WMC 2007: Interview with Cassy: http://tinyurl.com/59cya6 ____________________________________________________ MONOCLE Monocle is a collaboration between two award-winning sound designers, Christina Chatfield and Danny Patterson. The duo first met at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where they both studied music technology. What began as a collaboration for class blossomed into a full-fledged live PA and production team. Originally from the Midwest, Christina's musical tastes were heavily influenced by the sounds of nearby Detroit and Chicago. After spending her teenage years at various electronic music events, she knew she wanted to take her interest in the music to a higher level. With several years of classical music training under her belt and a lifelong fascination with sound design, Christina began studying music synthesis at Berklee in 2004. In 2006 she was the recipient of the Laurie Anderson Women in Music Technology award for her outstanding work at the college. In addition to developing her many music projects--which include her solo productions as Anitserk and collaborations with other artists in the works--Christina produces sound design for visual media. Danny hails from northern Florida where he was surrounded by computers since early childhood. He began working with electronic music production as early as 13 years old and hasn't stopped since. Danny's impressive resume already boasts music production credits for his work on an Academy Award-winning film and a top-selling Playstation game. Having previously studied computer science, Danny is also a skilled programmer, often turning to programming platforms like Supercollider and Composers Desktop Project to further create and manipulate sound. In addition to working on his solo techno debut as Coupler, Danny is currently putting his programming talents to use as a software engineer developing music applications. Monocle's debut release Dilleniidae (May 2007, Racecar Productions) was an immediate success, drawing praise and plays from high-profile corners. Shortly after its release, Dilleniidae appeared on several minimal download charts, climbing to number 2 on Dance Tracks Digital and securing a place in the top 40 on Juno Records. Monocle's tracks expose listeners to a diverse spectrum of beats, ranging anywhere from dark minimalist soundscapes to thoughtful analog melodies with a groove. Both producers interject their own unique sound while effortlessly blending together, resulting in dance music that conveys a deep understanding of production and composition. ===> LINKS: Monocle on MySpace (with music samples and discography): http://www.myspace.com/monoclemusik Monocle's Website: http://www.monocle-music.com/ ===> MUSIC: Famous Sunglasses (recent live set): http://www.kontrolsf.com/K42/monocle_-_famous_sunglasses.mp3 ===> VIDEO: Monocle - Live PA @ Aural Therapy 4.0, San Francisco 08.16.08 ___________________________________________________ http://www.kontrolsf.com

Part of the East Coast/Philadelphia dance scene, Wink recorded three techno monsters out of his bedroom studio (as Wink, Winx, and Size 9) that topped charts in Europe during 1995 and saw him anointed as a dance poster boy, easily recognized by his ruddy good looks and flowing blond dreadlocks. Hardly the techno kingpin, however, Wink's espousal of a vegan lifestyle and his defiantly anti-drug ideals made him something of a unique personality in the hedonistic world of dance music. After being turned on by punk rock in the '70s, Josh Winkelman was inspired by a diverse group of dance-styled artists during the 1980s -- ranging from Depeche Mode to Kraftwerk to Run-D.M.C. -- and began working with a Philadelphia-based mobile DJ service from the age of 13. After he met up with a fellow DJ, King Britt, at one party, the duo began recording. One of their first productions, 1990's "Tribal Confusion" by E-Culture, was released on New York's Strictly Rhythm Records and became a success in America's exploding club/rave scene, which Wink and Britt soundtracked by DJing at events around the country. Wink had also recorded for Nervous, another vaunted East Coast dance label, before forming Ovum Records in late 1994 with Britt. Ovum and Wink had an international club hit right out of the box with 1995's "Liquid Summer"; the single led to Wink recording for a maze of European labels. During 1995, he recorded "Don't Laugh" by Winx, "I'm Ready" by Size 9, and "Higher State of Consciousness" by Winks, all of which topped European dance charts and even made several pop charts despite their debt to hard-edged acid trance. The singles were collected along with new material for his 1996 debut album, Left Above the Clouds, and released as Winx. The major labels came calling in 1997, and Wink decided to sign not only himself but the entire Ovum Recordings label to a deal with Columbia. After recording with King Britt, Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor, poet Ursula Rucker, and Philly mod punks the Interpreters, Wink released his proper album debut, Herehear, in 1998; the mix album Profound Sounds, Vol. 1 followed the next year. He spent much of his time contributing to Ovum acts King Britt and Jamie Myerson, but by 2003 he had released both a second volume in Profound Sounds as well as his second production album, 20 to 20. Profound Sounds, Vol. 3 appeared in 2006. ===> LINKS: Josh Wink on MySpace: http://profile.myspace.com/213130125 Josh Wink's discography: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Josh%20Wink Ovum Recordings website: http://www.ovum-rec.com/ Ovum Recordings on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/ovumrecordings ===> MUSIC: Josh Wink - Profound Sounds Vol. 3 (streaming preview) http://www.thrivemusic.com/ecards/wink/ps3/ Josh Wink - DJ Mix on Samurai.fm: http://www.samurai.fm/player/index.php?id=1845 ===> VIDEO: Josh Wink - Video of performance in Cordoba, Argentina Josh Wink - Live @ Movement/DEMF 2006 Josh Wink - Profound Sounds 2 Interview ___________________________________________________ SPEEDY J ===> LINKS: Speedy J's website: http://www.speedyj.com/ Speedy J's discography: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Speedy%20J Speedy J on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/jochempaap ===> MUSIC: Preview Speedy J tracks @ Beatport.com: https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/artist/detail/4513/speedy_j ===> VIDEO: Speedy J - Live @ Droid Interface, LA - 2007: Speedy J - Live @ Knight - 2007: ___________________________________________________ DRUMCELL ===> LINKS: Drumcell on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/drumcell Droid Behavior website: http://www.droidbehavior.com/mission.html Droid Behavior on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/droidbehavior ===> MUSIC: Drumcell's set opening for Richie Hawtin and Jeff Mills, Los Angeles: http://www.rotfest.com/droid/mp3/Drumcell_Live@Avalon_R.Hawtin-J.Mills.mp3 ===> VIDEO: Drumcell - Live @ [KONTROL]+Auralism LoveFest Afterparty 2007: Drumcell - Interview @ Movement/DEMF 2008 about his performance setup: ___________________________________________________ SET TIMES: 08:00-09:00 Roman Stange 09:00-10:00 Dead Seal 10:00-12:00 [KONTROL] residents 12:00-01:00 Drumcell 01:00-03:00 Speedy J (live) 03:00-06:00 Josh Wink Stay at the Endup after 6am for an all-day Listed party w/ DJ Three, Bill Patrick, Crazy Larry, Nikita, Nikola, Hac Le, Eric Cloutier, and a VERY SPECIAL GUEST tba! Trapez . MBF . Kompakt Riley Reinhold, best known as Triple R, has been a hugely influential figure in Germany's dance music culture for nearly 20 years. Starting off as a DJ at early illegal parties in his native Cologne, he soon found himself writing for top music mags (including his own De:Bug) before going on to co-found the revered labels Traum, Trapez, and MBF. Between his years at the Kompakt record shop, developing talent for his 5 labels, residencies at Cologne's best clubs, a radio show, and organizing monthly parties, it's no wonder he's practically considered a national treasure. This month we are thrilled to share some of the riches with San Francisco with an extended West Coast debut set. with special guest: CHRISTIAN MORA (bang the box) and [KONTROL] residents: ALLAND BYALLO (nightlight music . auralism . leibe*detail) NIKOLA BAYTALA (s.w.a.t . robsoul . junior boys own) CRAIG KUNA (platform . esdjco) ____________________________________________________ The ENDUP 401 6th St @ Harrison, SF 10pm - 6am / 21+ / $15 http://www.theendup.com FREE until 11pm! ____________________________________________________ full bios, pics and FREE music: http://www.kontrolsf.com [KONTROL] on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/kontrolsf Flyer front: Flyer back: Poster: ___________________________________________________ TRIPLE R (aka Riley Reinhold) Riley Reinhold (aka Triple R) is part owner of the Traum Schallplatten family of labels encompassing Traum, Trapez and MBF. He started DJing in 1984 in Cologne and later on at electronic dance parties in 1989. Together with Sascha Kösch (now Chief Editor of De:BUG) the pair assembled their own sound system in 1990, playing at early techno, house and acid parties at every club and party imaginable (both legal and illegal) throughout Cologne and beyond. From 1991 to 1993 Riley belonged to the early Force Inc DJ team, together with Ian Pooley, Tonka, T.P. Heckmann (Live), and Alec Empire, playing at big clubs in Switzerland and Austria. He was resident at the legendary Elektro club in Berlin 1993 in the company of DJs such as Robert Hood, Dave Clarke, Kotai. Later he DJed at its successor, the Panasonic club. He was also resident at Ego in Dusseldorf, with Florian from Kraftwerk a regular in the crowd. In 1994 he was sent to London to meet the Aphex Twin and write an article about the vast emerging breakbeat scene in London together with Sascha Kösch. His record reviews and articles in the biggest german indie mag SPEX and later Frontpage (an icon for techno culture in Berlin) from 1994 to 1998 earned him an international reputation as a journalist which later resulted in the formation of his own magazine De:BUG. For the last three years, Riley has been resident DJ at the largest techno club in Cologne, Sensor, playing with guests such as Swayzak, Carl Craig, Daniel Bell, Thomas Brinkmann, Miss Kittin, Richie Hawtin, Magda, Green Velvet, Markus Nikolai, Alter Ego, Steve Bug, Luciano and Broker/ Dealer. He also plays occasionally at Camouflage together with Sascha Kösch and has been offered a residency at Subway in Cologne. More recently, Riley has been hosting a new monthly night called MBF CLUB since June 2005. Riley was involved for seven years at the Kompakt record store but quit in 2004 to concentrate on his labels Traum, Trapez and MBF together with Jacqueline Klein. ===> LINKS: A recent interview with Triple R in Resident Advisor: http://www.residentadvisor.net/podcast-episode.aspx?id=108 Triple R's website: http://www.traumschallplatten.de/ Triple R's discography: http://www.discogs.com/artist/triple%20r Triple R on MySpace (w/ music samples): http://www.myspace.com/rileyreinhold ===> MUSIC: Triple R - Resident Advisor Podcast 108 http://www.kontrolsf.com/K38/Triple_R_-_Resident_Advisor_Podcast_108.mp3 Triple R - Traum 100 Radio Mix http://www.kontrolsf.com/K38/Triple_R_-_Traum_100_Radio_Mix.mp3 ===> VIDEO: Triple R - Live in Paris (parts 1 - 3) ___________________________________________________ CHRISTIAN MORA Christian’s story has only begun to be written. After making the move to San Francisco in 2000, he started working at the now defunct Nemesis distributor, helping to service dance music stores across the states as well as his own store Crescent Records in Guadalajara. He has been lauded as a key figure of the Swedish electronic music scene for his unique interpretations of minimal club techno as well as for producing some of the most essential experimental electronic music of the past years. Stavöstrand mixes deconstructed sounds with funky little beats to create minimal dance textures. On his debut album on Force Inc., "Reduce", swarms of glitches, crackles and skips infiltrate the 4/4 drive formula of minimal techno. As Vita, his "Vita" 12" on Force Inc. imprint Force Labs was welcomed by critical praise and became one of the best selling releases with its digitalized organic groove. He started to produce music in the early nineties, but back then he was a part of the industrial scene and released some now labeled as "classic" records under different names. Lately due to a lot of demand from different labels, he agreed to allow reissues of these early works. After that period he got more interested into sound research and minimalism, which also led to a couple of CD releases on labels as Staalplaat in The Netherlands to name a few. In 2000 he became more focused on bringing his experiences and sound from the pure minimal scene into a more club context, so he started to work with minimal techno sounds, which immediately resulted in releases on Force Inc. in Germany. He has released 30 12" Ep's and 19 Albums (CD, DLP, LP) so far and he has been featured on many compilation records. He is also a sought after as a remix artist. In recent years he has been playing live around the world at such events as Mutek in Canada and in Mexico and Swedish Style in Tokyo. He has also played in Japan and all over Europe at respected clubs such as Panorama Bar, Weekend, Watergate, Fuse, Otto Zuts, Cargo, Brancaleone and many more. He is often asked by Swedish Cultural Institutes to represent Sweden abroad at festivals (ex. Detali Zvuku in Kiev, Take me to Sweden in Berlin and Swedish Style in Tokyo). Between 2000 to 2007 he ran the record label Mitek. Mitek's aim was to produce and promote upcoming Swedish talents in the field of electronic music. In the years Mitek produced 22 records with different kinds of electronic music, from avant-garde to club. Mitek often received grants from The Swedish Art Council to produce the records. In the summer of 2006 he also started his new label "Sunset Diskos". This label is purely for club music and deep, funky minimal tunes are the aim here. With artists such as himself, [a]pendics shuffle, agaric & Bulgur Brothers, Pheek and Franco Cinelli. Now he is signed by Get Physical [DE], Spectral Sound [uS], We Are [sE], Sushitech [uK], Thema [uS] and others, with more exciting prospects on the way soon. Recently he licensed tracks for Audion's Fabric mix CD, a new mix CD by James Holden, Circo Loco @ DC10 CD in Mixmag March issue and Fuse presents Steve Bug mix CD plus upcoming mix CD's by Agoria, Steve Bug and MANDY. His music is heavily played by DJ's as Matthew Dear, MANDY, Ricardo Villalobos, DJ T, Ryan Elliot, Jeff Samuel, Tanya Vulcano, Marco Carola, Dinky, Butane, Jeff Milligan, Troy Pierce, Magda and Jay Haze to name a few. ===> LINKS: Mikael Stavöstrand's website: http://www.sunset-diskos.com/ Mikael Stavöstrand's discography: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Mikael+Stav%C3%B6strand Mikael Stavöstrand on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/mikaelstavostrand ===> MUSIC: Mikael Stavöstrand - Live @ Watergate, Berlin 06.02.08 http://sunset-diskos.com/mixes/Mikael_Stavostrand_Watergate.mp3 Mikael Stavöstrand - Live PA 02.14.08 http://www.ibiza-voice.com/music/artist/Mikael_Stavostrand_Live ===> VIDEO: Mikael Stavöstrand @ Tresor, Berlin 01.12.08 ____________________________________________________ BUTANE Label owner of Alphahouse Records, accomplished producer, and jet setting DJ, Butane (Andrew Rasse) hails from the Midwestern United States, the birthplace of many great electronic music acts. His infamous Alphahouse monthly party put St. Louis on the current worldwide techno map, and his record label is regarded as one of the premier minimal techno/house labels in North America. As a DJ, Andrew uses vinyl, Traktor Scratch, samplers, effects, and whatever other new tools are available to craft his sets. Plenty of experience in clubs enables him to move bodies while simultaneously keeping a distinctly heady vibe. Technically gifted, with an ear for deepness, and not afraid to take the crowd where they need to go, he prides himself on playing appropriately for any time or setting. Because of this musical range, expect anything from seamlessly blended groovy, sexy, peak-time techno to warm, deep, cerebral house music. As a music producer, his tracks have been featured on some of the world’s most forward-thinking underground labels. Licensing original tracks to mix compilations such as Matthew Dear’s Fabric mix, Luciano’s HiFi SciFi on Soma, and Damian Lazarus’ Get Lost mix, it’s obvious that his peers in the industry hold his music in high regard. Always one to rely on his talents for success rather than shameless promotional methods, Andrew remains increasingly busy on the international DJ circuit. His touring schedule in the past year has included gigs in Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Cape Town, Moscow, Mexico City, London, Melbourne, Sydney, Budapest, Rome, Barcelona, Detroit, New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, among many others. 5. Saturday, June 7th, 2008 [ K O N T R O L ] 3 YEAR ANNIVERSARY minimal techno + avant house every 1st Saturday at The Endup featuring from London via Berlin: RADIO SLAVE Rekids . Poker Flat . Get Physical Matt Edwards is easily one of the most unique and important artists in dance music today. Sure, he runs a label (Rekids), has loads of aliases (Matthew E, Quiet Village, Sea Devils, Rekid, Radio Slave) and produces hits of his own, but what truly sets him apart is his ablity to reimagine the music of others. The jaw-dropping list of artists he's remixed includes Carl Craig, Kylie Minogue, New Order, Justice, Trentemoller, UNKLE, Sasha, Tiga, Bob Sinclar, Slam, The Pet Shop Boys, Clipse, Moby, Paul McCartney, and countless others. This man has amazing records no one else has and an inimitable style all his own. Listen and learn! and from Stockholm via Berlin: PAR GRINDVIK ** live PA ** Drumcode . Spectral Sound . Stockholm LTD Pär Grindvik has been an integral member of the Swedish electronic scene since the 90's as record store owner, label manager, producer and performer. His rigorous touring schedule and well-received releases on Drumcode, Spectral Sound, and his own Stockholm LTD have made him a respected player on the international scene and prompted his relocation, like so many before him, to the Mecca of Minimal, Berlin, Germany. Hot on the heels of performances at Miami's WMC and a main stage set at Detroit's Movement Festival (DEMF), don't miss his driving yet intelligent live set in one of only four US appearances! plus special guest: MONTY LUKE ( mothership . demon days . xlr8r ) with resident DJs: SAMMY D ( classic . dirtybird . utensil ) ALLAND BYALLO ( nightlight . auralism . leibe*detail ) CRAIG KUNA ( platform . esdjco ) NIKOLA BAYTALA ( robsoul . junior boys own . s.w.a.t. ) ____________________________________________________ The ENDUP 401 6th St @ Harrison, SF 10pm - 8am / 21+ / $20 http://www.theendup.com Still FREE until 11pm! ____________________________________________________ Full bios, pics and lots FREE music: http://www.kontrolsf.com [KONTROL] on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/kontrolsf Flyer front: Flyer back: Poster: ____________________________________________________ RADIO SLAVE (aka Rekid, Quiet Village, Matthew E) No matter what sounds you profess to be your music of choice, chances are, that at some point over the last five years, you will have got your rocks off to Matt Edwards. As Matthew E he fashions club-based, dancefloor slayers. Under that aegis he’s updated the classic Chi-town, jackin’ sound beloved of house aficionados and layered it with fractured funk, belligerent, oddball beats and mechanical soul. If Matthew E is all about the Saturday Night Fever, then, by contrast, Rekid is the slower, more deliberate, rhythmical funk of the mid-week mayhem. Its well-intentioned muscular intensity making it perfect soulful sustenance. Quiet Village is something else all together. A collaboration with long-time musical sparring partner Joel Martin (a vinyl freak, like Mr Edwards, who works in esteemed auction house Christie’s pop department), it’s sample-based music which veers from drawn out disco-not-disco delirium to evocative, under-stated soundscapes. Sea Devils - you keeping up at the back? – is undeniable electronic pop brilliance. Working with Tom from Cagedbaby, it’s the least niche of Matt’s projects and thanks to Sea Devils alluring pop dance grooves they’ll no doubt be shagging the upper reaches of the hit parade sometime soon. Last, but by no means least etc, etc, etc, is Radio Slave. Perhaps Matt’s most instantly recognisable nom de guerre, thanks in part to his inspirational melding of Kylie’s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head to New Order’s Blue Monday, this is Matt’s DJ moniker and the guise under which he completes his incendiary remixes and re-edits. However, before such sonic schizophrenia gets you calling for the men in white coats, just feel the quality and consider Matt’s legacy. Fired by the first wave of acid house, Matt gained his musical spurs by partying to dance music that was just that: music you danced to, irrespective of tribal factions. This was the raison d’être he acknowledged when he took to the decks, first at London’s legendary Milk Bar in 1992, then onto the, then, recently opened Ministry Of Sound and then to parties across the country, most notably in Wales – where he was a regular at free parties – and in Brighton, his home since 1998. His love of re-edits, dance music’s oft-forgotten backbone, led Matt into the studio himself. His own re-edits and remixes, such as the aforementioned epoch-defining re-imagining for Ms Minogue, soon gave way to his own productions and since the floodgates opened there’s been no stopping the man known as, erm, Matthew E, Quiet Village, Sea Devils, Rekid and Radio Slave. He’s released records for Skint, Soul Jazz, Classic, Whatever We Want, and he’s worked with fellow travellers, Belgium’s The Glimmers. If Matt comes up with another two projects he’ll have enough alter egos for every day of the week. Psychologists would probably have a field day with him; mercifully, we don’t have to worry about any crisis of identity, we just get to keep on dancing. ==> LINKS: Radio Slave's website: http://www.rekids.com/ Radio Slave's discography: <--- (CHECK THIS OUT!) http://www.discogs.com/artist/Radio%20Slave Radio Slave on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/rekid ==> MUSIC: Radio Slave - Essential Mix on BBC Radio One http://www.kontrolsf.com/K36/Radio_Slave_-_Essential_Mix_02.04.07.mp3 Radio Slave on Beatport: https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/artist/detail/6073/radio_slave ==> VIDEO: Radio Slave - Live @ Fabric, London - 03.03.07 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqybOHTuqNU Radio Slave - Live @ Foundation, Minneapolis - 10.18.07 ____________________________________________________ PAR GRINDVIK Enjoying life inspired by memories and music from the past, combining them with the progressing sound of techno. CMYK Musik . Apnea The last time Alex Under played for us, his intense aural onslaught had the Endup crowd going absolutely mental, and prompted resident Alland Byallo to name it in an online interview as the best live PA he's ever seen. We are therefore supremely excited to welcome this talented young producer and label owner back for another sweat-soaked dancefloor pummeling before he heads to Detroit for a headlining set at this year's DEMF. and from Stockholm, Sweden: AGARIC aka Patrik Skoog ** 2 hour live PA ** We Are . We could describe collage as an alchemic compound of two or more heterogeneous elements, derivate by their unexpected approximation generated deliberately by the search of systematic confusion and distorted perception. That's Alex Under's musical universe. Based in Madrid, this producer is the 'CMYK' label manager. He is also one of the men behind 'Apnea' and 'Bemysheep', and one of the founders of Net28 (the network behind these labels and others like 'CyclicalTracks' and 'Pulpa'). Alex Under confirmed himself as the new reality of the best international techno, sometimes being minimal and deep, sometimes hard and aggressive, but always original. He creates a sonic collage combining techno, trance and house elements while he constructs complex rhythms that arise from the dancefloor, taking the listeners to a higher level where emotions, depth, mind & body blend in a unique equation. Alex Under will intrigue beyond your perception. ==> LINKS: Alex Under's website: http://www.cmykmusik.com/ Alex Under's discography: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Alex%20Under CMYK on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/cmykmusik ==> MUSIC: Alex Under - El Encuentro (Plus 8) http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF209389-01-01-01.mp3 Friendly People - 99.9 (Apnea) http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF245690-01-02-02.mp3 Alex Under music samples on BeatPort: https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/artist/detail/8484/alex_under ==> VIDEO: Alex Under - Live @ [KONTROL], March 3, 2007 ____________________________________________________ AGARIC (aka Patrik Skoog, Headroom) After working together with Niklas Ehrlin and Henrik Larsson on their main and well known project in the 90's, Headroom, Patrik Skoog began a solo project, darker and more tribal-techno influenced in comparison to the collaborations. After releasing the first output on German and American labels, he then decided to set up Native Diffusion records for these type of tracks. This focused mainly on Patrik's own productions, but also showcased remixes from the likes of Damon Wild, W.J. Henze, Inigo Kennedy, Slobodan, Takaaki Itoh & Hardcell. As of 2003 and 2004 other talent started to appear on the label as well, respected producers and newcomers to the techno scene alike. 2004 also saw Headroom´s debut release on the classic New York-label Synewave getting licensed to the "Exhibitionist" CD and DVD compilation, compiled and mixed by world renowned DJ Jeff Mills, and as the popularity of their style of techno increased over the last years, remix offers also dropped in frequently. Patrik did one for fellow Swede Adam Beyer on his now classic Drumcode imprint, which shortly thereafter lead to more releases on Drumcode, and its sublabel Truesoul. Being a technical DJ with great sense for momentum and track selection, Skoog has played and continues to play praised gigs in the US, UK, North- and South America and all across Europe. In early 2005 a new project was found in "Agaric" where he explores the slower, deeper realms of techno and house and with productions on his well-received label project named "We Are". As Agaric, Patrik has gained appreciation from high-ranking peers, and fans have seen a big change in performances as well as track work, where he evolves further and further away from playing the typical "hard" sound for which he was known, and more often than not performs a deeper variety of tracks that hints at a modern take on early influences like Robert Hood, Wolfgang Voigt. and Plastikman, still with high intensity and groove. In 2006, the Native Diffusion label was put on ice, ending after six years at number 19 in the series, and Patrik started to perform live acts all over the world with the Agaric project--premiering at one of the leading festivals for innovative electronic music in the Nordic countries, Public Service. In 2007, nearly a decade after his debut on the Loop label and over one hundred vinyl releases later, Agaric relocated to and got involved in the ever-evolving electronic music scene in Berlin, Germany, where he now resides. His highly-anticipated appearance at [KONTROL] will be one of only a handfull of North American performances, including stops in NYC, LA, Chicago and Detroit. ==> LINKS: Agaric on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/djagaric Agaric's Discography: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Agaric%20(2) We Are Records Website: http://www.wearerecords.se/ ==> MUSIC: Patrick Skoog - recent live PA broadcast on Hardsignal Radio: http://wrhaw.com/audio/Hardsignal/Hardsignal_Radio_-_Ep003_-_Apr_2008.mp3 ==> VIDEO: Agaric - Live PA in Austin, Texas - 2006 ____________________________________________________ MYLES EGNER Myles Egner grew up in a small town in Iowa and was turned on to the "future house sound of Chicago" at a young age. By age 14 he started mixing with his brother DJ Rin, playing deep house and ghetto house while attending warehouse parties in Chicago on the weekends and being influenced by people like Gene Farris, Paul Johnson, DJ Traxx, and DJ Funk. After moving to SF in '94, Myles linked up with S.W.A.T. (Nikola Baytala, Kwai le Chief, and DJ Rasoul), sat in on studio sessions whenever there was an empty seat, and soon found himself a resident at their long-running Friday night weekly at SF's legendary house club The Top. Over the years Myles has moved away from and returned to SF several times, working in four different record stores along the way: Housewares (SF), Aaron's Records and Beat Non Stop (LA), and most recently Tweekin' Records (SF). His many hours logged in these shops gave him the opportunity to soak in boundless influences and of course pick up an arsenal of heaters, from house to minimal to hard techno. His uncontested skills behind the decks have landed him gigs alongside talent including Kenny Larkin, Octave One, Boo Williams, K. Alexi, Christian Bloch, JPLS, and more. Myles is currently making a mark on the Bay Area techno scene as a resident at Platform, Bureau, and Wish, where he can always be counted on to bring a unique style of "beating the box". Pan-Pot, on the other hand, are a brilliantly multidimensional Berlin duo currently twisting house and techno fans into rapturous fits. In just a few short years, Pan-Pot--the duo comprised of Tassilo Ippenberger and Thomas Benedix—-have become a central presence in electronic dance music's most advanced sectors. Their rise parallels that of their home label, Anja Schneider's Mobilee, coming at a time when established categories are breaking down and accepted notions of "minimal" (please) are giving way to an unprecedented degree of dynamism on demanding dancefloors. Pan-Pot's vinyl debut came in May 2005 with the Popy & Caste EP (mobilee002), featuring two cuts bursting with gritty, dirty funk, as though they'd scraped all the gunk from beneath the knobs of their gear, packed it into a ball and sent it rolling across the nightclub. Since then, in addition to their contribution to the Extra EP (mobilee005 plus), backing Daniel Stefanik's anthemic banger "The Bells," they've released three more EPs on Mobilee (Obscenity, mobilee005; Black Lodge, mobilee012; and What Is What, mobilee023) and two on Einmaleins Musik. Their kinetic, undulating grooves have proved particularly tempting to other producers—-Jesse Rose, Lee Van Dowski, Agnès, Barem and Camea have all taken (pot)shots at reworking the group's tunes—-and their own remixing skills are increasingly in demand: Pan- Pot have put their immediately recognizable spin on tracks by Misc., Anja Schneider & Sebo K, Tim Xavier, Dapayk Solo, Sweet 'n Candy, and Damián Schwartz, among others. The release of their debut album marks yet another milestone for the group. Appropriately titled Pan-O-Rama, the record—-which has the honor of being the first artist album released on Mobilee—-offers a 360-degree tour of techno at its most twisted, balancing ominous atmospherics with an unusual lightness of touch, and running classic machine music through silicon's digital wringer. They may name themselves after a piece of gear, but Pan-Pot's music is ultimately about moving bodies, not knobs. Both live and as DJs, Pan-Pot deliver on that promise with sets that rope together crisply minimal, coolly restrained techno and hot and heavy house. Anyone who's ever played with an analog synthesizer knows that all those pots and dials are there to be touched; Pan-Pot reaches out and touches right back—with a love slap from the heart of the Berlin underground. ---> LINKS: Mobilee Website: http://mobilee-records.de/pan-pot Pan-Pot on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/panpot Pan-Pot's Discography: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Pan-Pot Recent article on Pan-Pot: http://weeklydig.com/arts-entertainment/music/200803/pan-pot ---> AUDIO: Pan-Pot - DJ set, July 2007: http://www.kontrolsf.com/K34/pan-pot_-_dj_set_2007.mp3 Pan-Pot - Ibiza Voice Podcast: http://www.ibiza-voice.com/sessions/media/Pan_Pot_Ibiza_Voice_Podcast.mp3 ---> VIDEO: Pan-Pot partial DJ set + cool hi-speed cam visuals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1w_Oa9wXzZQ Pan-Pot - Live @ Amnesia, Spain 2007 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFZ7JX6puL8 _______________________________________________ CLINT STEWART In a sea of heads, Clint Stewart can’t contain his enthusiasm. “It’s an amazing time for dance music,†says the Auralism assistant label manager. “There’s so much good music and an endless list of people making it. It’s inspiring.†The Florida-born DJ / producer / promoter is true to his word, commanding crowds with ease and producing sexy, gauzy cuts that exhort everyone to dance. Growing up in a home surrounded by the sounds of classical music to classic rock and early blues, he began training in classical piano and guitar. Over time Stewart’s adolescent obsession with punk’s passion and aggression (“I hated dance musicâ€) led to a college-age awakening to techno’s dark, relentless groove. A stint on UNF College Radio Station gave him the opportunity to start Nocturnal Underground radio show where he met Marc Smith. After college he moved to Miami and began eventually joining forces with Auralism co-founders Marc Smith and Jason Short and playing at their residency at Jazid. Within the year, Stewart moved to Hawaii for a brief stint to “get awayâ€, but was soon living in San Francisco after a gig in which he never stepped foot on his return flight. Since joining the Auralism camp, Stewart has been “going 100 miles an hour, all day, every day,†playing high-profile DJ gigs with top artists among as well as a particularly sizzling set at SF’s annual LoveFest. In addition pounding the pavement for Auralism, Stewart has a growing list of productions out there, including a pair of ecstatic remixes for the label’s inaugural Aural Therapy 1.1 compilation. That’s a lot of work for a short time in a new town, but master multi-tasker Stewart’s just getting started. ---> LINKS: Auralism Website: http://www.auralismrecords.com/ Clint on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/clintstewartsounds ---> AUDIO: Clint Stewart's Comfort Sessions Mix, 2007: http://www.kontrolsf.com/K34/clint_stewart_-_comfort_sessions_sept_07.mp3 ---> VIDEO: Clint Stewart @ LoveFest 2007: _______________________________________________ http://www.kontrolsf.com

Then there are people who dig deeper into the dusty crates, and absorb music like a sponge; ignoring labels, bucking trends, forever on a quest to find the perfect record. The ones that make the staunchest of chin-stroking, note-taking trainspotters lose their shit on the dancefloor, hanging on every record from one to the next. Derek Plaslaiko unquestionably falls into the latter category. As a teen equally transfixed by Mojo and Wizard cassettes and Minor Threat 7"s, Plaslaiko followed the beats from his hometown 20 miles south of Detroit to the epicenter of Detroit techno, then enjoying its third wave of success. He quietly paid his dues on Detroit's rave circuit, and was a crucial piece of the puzzle for the legendary Poorboy and Syst3m parties of the mid-nineties. He quickly earned a reputation for forward thinking DJ sets that were clinical, sophisticated and extremely sensual. This combination resulted in a residency for Family, the weekly party at Detroit's legendary Motor. With a reputation for high energy sets that were versatile and tasteful, Plaslaiko slowly became in demand on the Midwestern club circuit; sharing the stage with such techno luminares as John Acquaviva, Kevin Saunderson, Richardo Villalobos, Baby Ford, and Matthew Herbert. It was also during that time Plaslaiko was asked by Carl Craig to perform at the inaugural edition of the Detroit Electronic Music Festival. In 2003, Plaslaiko became part of the original team of DJs at Detroit's Untitled parties, sharing a residency with Tadd Mullinix (aka James T. Cotton), Matthew Dear and Mike Servito. In 2004 he made the decision to head east and set up camp in New York City, determined to bring a slice of the Motor City to the Big Apple. Currently, Derek is one of the resident DJs at the Bunker (Subtonic) in NYC, as well as an integral part of the Wolf + Lamb monthly parties. More recently, he was honored in the Village Voice 2006's "Best Of" poll as New York's Best Techno DJ. The last time Derek played for [KONTROL] in February '07, he so thouroughly impressed both the crowd and our resident DJs that we have been drooling over the day we would have him back, and we're happy to report that day has come. This time Derek comes to us as part of the "Death Is Nothing To Fear" Spectral Residencies, on his first major US tour. ---> LINKS: Derek's Website: (w/ lots of free sets for download) http://plaslaiko.net Derek on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/plaslaiko ---> AUDIO: Live @ The Bunker, 2008 (Spectral Tour Kickoff - 5 hour set!) http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheBunkerPodcast Live @ Yura Yura, Philadelphia, 2006 (2 hours - 111MB) http://www.kontrolsf.com/AUD/Derek_Plaslaiko_-_Live_@_Yura_Yura_-_Philadelphia_07.15.06.mp3 ---> VIDEO: Live @ The Bunker, 2007 (Detroit Takeover night) Derek @ Mutek Igloofest 2008 ________________________________________________ CLAUDE VONSTROKE "I would like to come over…what are you having for dinner?" asks the creepy character in Claude VonStroke's first hit record, "Deep Throat." After selling through 10 pressings in 2005, "Deep Throat" quickly put VonStroke on the map as an up and coming artist. The success of the single was followed up by "Who's Afraid of Detroit?," another international hit championed by Richie Hawtin who called it the "Best Track of 2006" in DJ magazine. Soon after he released his full length debut album, "Beware of the Bird" to excellent reviews, further establishing him as an original talent in the world of underground dance music. Since then, Claude has done remixes for a very diverse group of top artists ranging all the way from indie-rock band The Rapture, to electro legends Newcleus, to minimalists like Matt Tolfrey and Jeff Samuel. Claude VonStroke is better known to locals as Barclay Crenshaw, the owner of San Francisco's quirky tech-funk label, dirtybird. The label consists of Crenshaw (VonStroke,) friends and fellow producers Justin Martin, Christian Martin, and Worthy, and a diverse assortment of top remixers from around the globe including John Tejada, Audion, Diplo, 3 Channels, Dj Assault, and Kevin Saunderson. The idea for dirtybird began in 2003 when Crenshaw was producing an intense 5 hour DVD about electronic music called, "Intellect." The project was a labor of love, taking almost 2 years to complete and starring over 35 top producers and legendary DJs such as Derrick May, Swayzak, Derrick Carter, Deep Dish, Magda, Theo Parish, and many more. The main goal of the "Intellect" project was to make an informative DVD that could help DJs advance their careers in electronic music. The result was Crenshaw himself starting dirtybird records and a production career under the alias Claude VonStroke. Since 2005, dirtybird has managed to solidify a reputation for releasing oddball classic techno and house tracks, and in the process has become one of the hottest labels on the planet. The outdoor dirtybird parties in San Francisco's scenic Golden Gate Park have also become a legendary summer destination point for both locals and international travelers. In addition to production and label management, Claude VonStroke has an intense regimen for preparation and a great ear for song selection. His DJ sets are always inspiring and surprising. You will never hear a set of monotonous music because Claude always takes time to find the special cuts that make for a completely original experience that is not to be missed. In 2008, Claude is hard at work on his second album, in addition to fostering his latest project, Mothership Records. Mothership was started in 2007 as VonStroke's outlet for deep and experimental techno. The first record on Mothership became a summer classic and sold 7,000 vinyl records and sat at #1 on the Beatport minimal techno chart for 8 weeks. Proceeds from the label go towards children's music education in Claude's hometown of Detroit, Michigan. Claude's special set for [KONTROL] will feature a deeper, darker techno side of this fun-loving bear-shaped man! ---> LINKS: Claude's Websites: http://www.mothershipmusic.com http://www.dirtybirdrecords.com Claude's Discography: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Claude%20VonStroke Claude on MySpace: www.myspace.com/claudevonstroke
  9. Saturday, February 2nd, 2008 [ K O N T R O L ] minimal techno + avant-house every 1st Saturday @ The Endup featuring from Dublin, Ireland in an exclusive North American appearance: DONNACHA COSTELLO *2 hour extended live pa* (minimise . kompakt . force inc . mille plateaux) "Well...that's enough. Fuck it." To anyone paying attention, those words will instantly bring to mind one of the most unique and memorable techno tracks of last year. The man behind it is Dublin's Donnacha Costello, who has been producing for over a decade but really came into the international spotlight in 2004 with the release of his acclaimed "Colorseries", a monthly sequence of 10 color- coded EP's created using entirely analog gear and released on his own Minimise label. Influenced by minimal pioneers like Mike Ink, Plastikman, and Basic Channel, Donnacha creates warm, dubby techno that intoxicates the mind as it compels the body to move. After witnessing his stirring live PA at the 2006 DEMF, we knew we needed to bring him out to SF, but in the nearly two years since, he's been nowhere near these parts. As a live performer, and more recently as a DJ, Costello regularly performs around the globe from Europe to the U.S. to Japan and runs his renowned 'MINIMISE' record label from his hometown of Dublin. ____________________________________________________ About Donnacha's recently re-issued "Colorseries": The Colorseries was a series of ten records released in rapid succession by Donnacha Costello in 2004 and marked the breakthrough point in his career. The collection is special in that these records were produced solely with analog equipment, without a computer in sight. The hand crafted coherence of the music made and speed of the release process marked the series almost as a stream of consciousness, with each color embodying a different chapter, mood and season, with all elements inextricably linked to one another in far more than just name. Throughout 2004, the Colorseries consistently appeared in the charts of big name DJs and eventually appeared in end of year top ten lists in many publications including The Wire and The New York Times. In the intervening years, Donnacha has scored a number of hit releases, including last year's unstoppable "6.6", and has broadened his fan base considerably. The Colorseries CD will therefore appeal to those who were not around for the original releases, those who have discovered Donnacha's work through artist mixes or through witnessing one of his famed live appearances. Minimise is proud to present these tracks on CD for the first time, offering the full-spectrum sound-rainbow for your listening pleasure. Colorseries influences include: Farley Jackmaster Funk, Steve Silk Hurley, Inner City, 808 State, Plastikman, F.U.S.E., Aphex Twin, The Black Dog, Lobe, LFO, Maurizio, Basic Channel, Model 500, Baby Ford, Mike Ink, The Modernist, Studio One, Thomas Brinkmann.
