  1. It will be crowded, but many of us will be saving ourselves for Tyrant (Craig Richards and Lee Burridge) the following Saturday.
  2. heard something about the basement of Coffee Shop turning into a club...
  3. DJ shadow should be respected by anyone involved in the music and club scene, whether you like house, trance, hip hop, whatever...because a good dj is a good dj. his juxtaposition of samples creates symphony-like trip hop, that is amazing to watch and hear. Not really dance music, but it's sort of the sountrack to our everyday life in NYC. It is really moody, but it is also full of slick beats that will make you bob your head. I recommend endtroducing over U.N.K.L.E. (personal preference)
  4. my fiance is a dj, and when i first started dating him (damn! 7 years ago) he wouldn't take me out to raves because i wasn't into the scene. i found it on my own and learned to love it, and for the past 6 years we have been going together so we could share it's special memories. whenever he djs i go, because i am his biggest fan. he seems to like having me there because i will honestly critique his mixes. and as for the clubs, of course he wants me there but i usually don't hang on him and we both talk to different groups of friends independently and meet up occasionally throughout the night. its how we stay sane.
  5. Isn't he supposed to be playing at Irving Plaza sometime soon? Anyone got any info? Saw him back when he released Endtroducing and he put on an amazing live show. The man's got skillz.
  6. Thats why I said it has potential. It needs to have at least 1,000 people to feel like its a good party in that amount of space. Bring in one of the many djs that had Twilo packed way beyond its capacity and that should do it. The Roxy can handle it. As much as I love Danny Tenaglia at Vinyl, we need a venue that can also host amazing international djs on a friday night to make things more interesting.
  7. Just wondering. I think it will replace Ibiza.
  8. Funny. It has so much potential. Great new soundsystem (yup you can even feel the bass through your body), decent lights, plenty of space. The Hardkiss brothers were good, I haven't heard them since my raving days many moons ago (5 years?) From 1 to 3 they were playing some awesome house, with breakbeats thrown in and really danceable stuff. Then it all went downhill when they started playing familiar song after familiar song. Despite the lack of people (there seemed to be only about 200 people in a huge club at any one point in time), it had so much potential to be a great night out. I had a decent time. I just wish more of you would realize that Roxy could be a perfect place to go on a friday night, and if they brought in some more European talent it might bring the number of heads up. I'm not saying that the American Djs aren't good enough, but if on occasion they got an A-list dj like Sasha or Warren, or Timo they would have the place packed. Boy George a few weeks ago had more people than Hardkiss, but it was pretty mainstream. (His song choice is OK but his mixing is only adequate). So stop complaining that there isn't anything good to do in NY anymore and give the Roxy a chance.
  9. For your hotel you should go to festivetravel.com they have a whole bunch of options, from economy apartments (no air conditioning but a fridge and it sleeps 4) to villas. They run their agency from Fort Lauderdale and are really knowledgeable about the island. For the flights, you're on your own. May I suggest checking cheaptickets.com and economytravel.com sporadically to see what you can get. Fluctuates between 650 and 1000. Save your $...it will cost you around $2500-$3000 for a week to 10 days there, going out most nights. As for a car, you should rent one if you want to see more of the island. there have been way too many problems relying on public transport and taxis. Your other option is to book a package from bringitontravel or experienceibiza. They have all inclusive 5 days in ibiza for around 1500.
  10. I bought my tix from cheap tickets in february for this past june and it was still around 800 from JFK. Air Europa is always the cheapest. There are no deals. Just go when you want, and pay what you have to for the flight. I;ve gone the past 3 years and paid between 800 and 1000 to get there. If you want to get there, and go out almost every night for a week or 10 days it is going to cost you about $3000 US dollars. (1000 for the plane, 500 for a reasonable hotel, and $125 a day in expenses.) Plus keep in mind that you're going to want to go shopping (the stores have such cool european stuff) and also possibly rent a car.) Its worth staying home in NYC every weekend for 6 months just to save money for one week in Ibiza. You can save money on club admission by making friends with people who host pre-parties and promoters.
  11. Don't know about that hotel either but talamanca is a decent area. Pacha and el divino are there. But it is a 15-20 minute walk to the other side of the harbor where ibizatown is. the dj sets at night are fairly short. (saw tiesto for about an hour and a half at amnesia.) most people don't get to the clubs until 2 or 3, and the main clubs close between 6 and 8... there are about 3 djs spinning for most parties, each dj will spin between 1.5 and 2.5 hours, with the closing dj maybe spinning 3. Except for things like space on sundays, where the dj on the terrace could be spinning from 6-12 or something. we saw deep dish at pacha for about 6 hours, and it was nice to actually hear a whole long set like that. spanish customs didn't even bother to stamp our passports. but why would you be bringing anything there? They have better stuff already there if you meet the right people and ask the right questions. as for u.s. customs, they didn't ask much either time we came back to the us. no searches, but then again it could be random with different people. clubs are crowded, but never like twilo at a pvd night, because there are plenty of other options, and the bathrooms have waits but not too bad. maybe 10 minutes at most. (first summer we went at end of july and was much more crowded than the past two summers when we went the last week of june/first week of july.) then again that is why we go at the end of june.
  12. I only posted it to be informative. I myself will be on an airplane at 8pm tomorrow to go someplace much better.
  13. Yep. I know it well. This is my third summer going there. More excited about the opening of sundays at space this sunday with danny tenaglia and some other fabulous djs...not to mention meeting up with 14 of our british friends from last summer.
  14. PATRONS BID FAREWELL TO NYC NIGHTCLUB, TWILO New York, New York, June 18, 2001 ... In observance of the recent closing of famed New York City nightclub, Twilo, former patrons will gather outside of 530 West 27th Street beginning at 8:00 PM on Thursday June 21, 2001, to say good-bye and thank-you to the beloved nightclub. During its six years in operation, Twilo was considered the center of the electronic music movement in the United States. The first to sign International DJ's as residents, it was a pilgrimage of sorts to club-goers worldwide. In the last year, the nightclub has been engulfed in legal battles with New York City that ultimately led to the denial of a renewal of the nightclub's cabaret license. Twilo patrons believe the City unfairly targeted Twilo in an attempt to curb New York City nightlife and capitalize on the sensationalism surrounding the "club drug" ecstasy; throughout the United States, established nightclubs are being targeted as havens for drug use and distribution. For six years, Twilo brought together people from around the world to the warehouse on West 27th street through appreciation for music and dance. While Twilo is no more, the community lives on, the records will keep spinning, and Twilo will go down in the history books, with the likes of Studio 54 and the Pallidium, as a legendary New York City nightclubs. Twilo's management and staff are not involved in the above-mentioned vigil. All statements made in this release are public and available on the World Wide Web.
