  1. Russians rule indeed! But back in the days, we used to hang out in Greek clubs in Astoria. Those were fun days! I must say that Greeks in Papagalos and XL looked just as badly as people in Russian clubs. I guess, if you start generalizing, the first generation of immigrants, be it Russians, Italians, Greeks or what have you, all go through the same adjustment process.
  2. Someone told me that bridges and tunnels to Manhattan will be closed for cars starting at 6:00pm on 12/31. Can anyone confirm?
  3. First thing you need to know is "idi na khui." It translates as "how do you do?" What's going on, Joe? When are you coming to visit me? I live three blocks away from your girlfriend's Brooklyn apartment. Good time and lots of Guinness guaranteed! - Igor
  4. Mostly Vinyl, Centro, and special parties my friends organize throughout the City. Used to frequent Twilo quite a bit.
  5. Ok, here is what I posted on NaughtyBooth.com regarding the same thread: I voted for Bloomberg. Think of NYC as of a large corporation. Would you rather have someone running it who never managed more than 40 people? Can you point out one major thing that Green has accomplished throughout his political career? Bloomberg, on the other hand, runs a multi-national company that has over 4000 employees. He comes from a financial background and knows well what fiscal discipline is. And that's what our city is going to need in the near future. The city budget would not be able to afford many things we are used to next year because of a huge projected deficit. So, obviously, there is no room for additional spending. Green did not seem to grasp that concept. Also, you'll be surprised how much our city and our country are about money, profits, and shareholder. We are all "shareholders" of the city we live in. The more money the City makes, the better off we are. Schools, police, roads, infrastructure and many more things depend on how much money the city makes. And right now were are living through a crisis which needs to be addressed swiftly by someone who understands how the system works and does not owe anyone any favors. Also, a mayor does not run the city by himself. I am sure Bloomberg will be able to recruit people who are most qualified for the jobs in the city administration. And as far as making quick, rational, and effective decisions, we know Bloomie was the most qualified candidate for the job. Otherwise he would not be a self-made billionaire. As far as Bloomberg continuing Guiliani's policies, I honestly don't mind. Our city has prospered in the last eight years. Whatever Rudy's plan was, it worked. I agree, some things were overdone. But, overall, our quality of life has improved dramatically. And why are you surprised about Hispanic voters? What's wrong with them voting for a person instead of a particular party? Hispanic voters are probably the most diverse group in the NY in terms of incomes, education and political affiliatoins. Green did not treat them nicely, so they voted to Bloomberg. No big whoop. And just to give you an example of a "crazy billionaire", Jon Corzine from New Jersey is representing Democratic party in US Senate. He used to run Goldman Sachs and was also elected using his enormous fortune. Can you say that he is a bad senator? No! Why? Because he understands that the backbone of any successful political system is healthy economy and votes accordingly.
  6. The South Park Towelie - You wanna get high? Russian Vinnie the Pooh. The picture says: What do you know about Rabbit's sexual orientation?
  7. Tenaglia Diggers Pappa Satoshi Tommie Lawler Deep Dish Howells Sasha Kleinenberg Seaman
  8. I've been watching it pretty much every day. Cuerten vs. Mirniy - what a fucking match!!! Also, Roddick - the US Open discovery. That kid is going to make it REALLY big. It is sad that Agassi and Sampras are playing in quarterfinals though. I have a feeling that whoever wins that match will win the whole thing. They are both playing flawlessly.
  9. I would strongly suggest that you stay near Bora Bora beach. It is the most happening place on the island, day and night. You could also try to find something in Ibiza-Town. We were there last July and stayed at Apartamentos El Puerto, 2 minutes from the port. It is a great neighbourhood that has a lot to offer in terms of restaurants, bars and small clubs. I would also strongly suggest that you rent a car. You could get one for $15 per day. It is not easy to get around the island. Do not stay at San Antonio under any circumstances. The town SUCKS and is full of British football hoolihans. Have a fun trip!
  10. Well deserved! With Twilo gone, no other club comes close.
  11. So, I start making plans for the evening. I call all my Russian comrades and find out that they are all going to see Oakenjoke. I call most of my English-speaking friends and they either don't return my calls or are sleeping. I figure that in order not to stay at home on a Saturday night (haven't done that in over 6 years), I would have to go see THE MAN himself. Here is my brief recollection of last night's events: We get to World at 11:00. As we are getting in, my friend's wife stumbles and breaks her shoe. We start searching for a shoe-store, but it is SOOO crowded in the middle of fucking Times Square that my friend's wife settles for a roll of clear tape wrapped around her shoe. We come back to World and find out that they want $60 for admission. Being the diehard Oakenbastard fans as my friends are, they decide that $60 is not that much for a "great", supposedly four-hour performance. We go inside and I try get rid of any expectations. I figure, if I do that, who knows, maybe I'll get surprised. After all, Oakensonofabitch has been self-promoting himself heavily for the past few years and has even been getting some positive press from Electronic Music publications. We are inside by 11:30 and Eddie Bang is ...well, banging it out. He played a killer opening set. Lots of big tracks, but all of them were perfectly mixed and well-timed. Around 1:00, Oakenfucker steps behind the one and two, and three. The totally fucked up, crowd starts jumping and squealing from joy. I look around myself and discover that perhaps I am the only one on the dance floor smoking cigarettes and not rolling. During Oakencocksuker's entire set I heard only two tracks that I did not recognize from two years ago. The two tracks were Rupture and Hide You. Someone should tell him to visit a record store. As any "good" dj should, he would bring the crowd down after almost every song. So, every 5-8 minutes the overwhelmed-from-joy crowd got some rest from his "slamming" tracks. Before we knew it, Oakenprick was done at 3:00, after two and not promised four hours of an "unbelievable" set. The surprise of the night was Liquid Todd that followed Oakenfuck. He played a superb set consisting of a great combination of progressive house, techno, tech-house and breakbeat. Look out for that guy in the near future. Overall, we paid $20 per dj. Eddie Bang and Liquid Todd were definitely worth it. But I demand a refund for the joke-of-a-dj that played in the middle. Some side-notes about World: the club is very big. They have a bunch of different well-air-conditioned rooms with decent sound systems. The main dance floor is rather small and gets REALLY crowded (think of Twilo on a PVD night). The sound system on the main floor sucks ass. It is not loud enough and the bass is not strong enough. The most disturbing part was the fact that the security does not search you at all. You could bring a bag full of drugs or a shotgun into the club and no one would bother to check. Most people I saw inside were totally cracked out. And Twilo is the one that got shut down. A word of advice: next time Oakenfool comes to your town, save your money and don't go see him. And please tell all your friends to do the same. Be smart and learn from other people's mistakes.
  12. I think everyone is saving it for Satoshi. I am bringing a bunch of friends who have never heard him before. They have no idea what a treat they'll be getting . I have a feeling that next Tuesday will be the most crowded night at Filter ever.
  13. Yes, according to his website. I certainly hope so bacause a bunch of my friends are going.
  14. Luxor has some of the best standard rooms I have stayed in. Rio is also nice, but it is far from everything. Their buffet is awesome though, second only to Paris. Hard Rock is probably the best hotel in town. They have nice rooms and attract the coolest crowd. Have fun!
