  1. I personally liked the days when Franco and then Greg played Tempts and they are both really nice guys as far as I'm concerned and their hard work paid off for them. Eugene is responsible for constantly innovating the nightclub industry in NJ, continues to do so and is a great guy. Franco is one of my influences as a DJ and Eugene saw his talent and made him one of the first big DJ names in NJ. back then Franco was the only NJ name you heard on the radio, then Danny Boy Marlin and a few others followed with notoriety. But every one has their opinion, that's was makes this country great. Just my 50 cents.
  2. I'm very sad to hear this, I had just re-connected with Zee after a while. She was a good friend for a long time, I probably knew her for about 8-10 years and I'm glad I did get to know her as a friend and not just a bartender. I'm a better person for knowing her, and send her family and friends my belated condolences. She always brought life and light into any room she entered. I loved her personality, wit, outfits(who could forget her hats!). The obituary link I found is here http://app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061105/OBITUARIES/611050384/-1/OBITS I also attached a few of my favorite pics of zee for all of you. I'm sure she's mixing up some drinks, dancing and having a great time in Heaven. God Bless You Zee, you were one of the best! Marshall

    Amika

How is Amika doing? Is it still open? I haven't seen any posts about it in a minute?
  4. Joia, should still be there ,Stephans Deli for that NY Deli feel, the best Deli on the beach with an Italian Rest upstairs,(across from Crobar). Don't miss G Estefan's Rest. Larios. and if you ask me News Cafe is a rip-the sandwiches are small and overpriced, not bad for breakfast though-but for breakfast I would hit 11th St diner. Tantra is still the bomb, and hit Big Pink for the best burgers on the beach. Here is a guide to restaurants. http://www.miamibeach411.com/Restaurants/dining_directory.html
  5. watches the ball drop anyway- You seen one ball drop you seen it a million times
  6. I like the place alot. The layout is great, lots of space to move around, lots of little nooks and places to lounge & get away from the main club room and music if you want. The restaurant/martini lounge is top notch, and NYE you have Masi and Mello spinning, If I was going out, It would be my pick locally.
  7. and taking over!! No need to argue about digital versus vinyl or computers or loops or sound quality, TITS win everytime! http://www.intuitivemusic.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=920
  8. This debate will go on forever, guys who invest in vinyl are going to say it's better, my opinion is there is nothing like going to the record shop or record pool and picking up new vinyl and dropping a needle on it at a club. It does sound warmer than cds, and you can trust vinyl. Cds are a cheaper way to go and the guys that build entire music collections by downloading music that they hear other jocks playing instead of going to the store and hunting out the great tracks for themselves are hacks(half of them don't understand the difference in the quality of the mp3s they download or don't care) and they drive down the pay rates since they have no investment in music. Technology is great, I like the fact that you can use a computer to create loop discs for your sets, or a Pioneer cd 1000 and all it's great features. Not to mention you can carry less vinyl and more music with cds. The Peavey DAI is the next thing in djing, it just plug into your usb port and have your entire digital library at your fingertips, and access your cds through your computer as well. However, they keep saying vinyl is dead, dying, whatever, and it's still around-there must be something to it. Technology is good but VINYL IS KING.
  9. I know of is China Club...They started the Monday night and have been doing it for years. May be a little slower than usual this Monday, with the holidays and NYE just happening, people may be partied out and low on cash. Happy B Day!
  10. in my opinion, I wouldn't even attempt to compare them. I like them both.
  11. ratings, don't get djs booked or pack clubs- When is the last time you went to a place because of it's rating? How many times did you love a movie that the critics bashed, How many times did someone you despise win a grammy or an oscar- Think about- ratings mean nothing- do what you like, if it makes you feel better, rate all your favorites #1-Then see if anyone cares.
  12. to break into, unfortunately it takes more than talent. It takes marketing, persistence, and a little luck. Best to start at a small venue, and you never know when your lucky break may even walk in the door when you least expect it. Don't ever play for free, always get something, even drinks or something. If you play for free, you aren't sending a good message of what you are worth. Music costs money, get paid. Just my two cents.
  13. The Johnny Vicious vs Kenny G versions are hot.
  14. Just go and support the ones you like, who cares about a rating or what other people think if you like it.
  15. Richard Pryor, but the non profane comics have it tough, especially today, but Dangerfield has to be up near the top, along with George Burns, Cosby, and Boby Hope. Todays profane comics have to say Chris Rock and John Leguizamo top the list. Leguizamo's show is off the hook and there is no on like him right now.
  16. There is really no way to figure it out,no statistics or anything, unless you want to use their incomes, or attendance over the years or something like that. Just listen to the ones you love and don't bash the others- they may end up your favorite one year.
  17. but I would say early 50's not 60. And he did take the baton from Larry Levan, and is a great dj/producer. One of my favorites. And props to him for lasting through all the changes in clubs and music over the years. Definitely a legend.
  18. Now you know why they called him C
  19. That Chazz Palmienterri used to work a door at a NYC nightclub and had about $120 to his name when he finally got the deal for a Bronx Tale, he held out until he could get a part in the movie (Like Stallone did with Rocky) and the story is loosely based on his life, he was Cologino in the story. (Loosely) By the way-Great Fuckin Movie!!
  20. Just goes to show vinyl is alive and quality products speaks for itself-Sold in less than 24 hours. Impressive, especially with all the cd jocks these days!
  21. Nuff Said, But Halle Berry is a close second.
  22. Honestly I didn't read all the details, never show up with more than yourself and a guy friend, you show up with 3 or 4 or more guys and no girls you deserve a tough time at the door.
  23. I don't care what your door policy is, a guy like that, if its true is bad for business. It's bad when fellow djs can't get into your establishment, bad when you don't give any industry workers courtesy. But on another note, being a dj- I generally don't travel with more than one guy friend if its just us- if it is more I make sure girls are in the mix, I call ahead, and always have some DJ credentials, flyers, etc on me-doesn't hurt to give the tough bouncer or door guy a cd to smooth him out either. Just my 2 cents.
