  1. I think alot of the female DJs kick ass. I've seen Sandra Collins and Spacegirl at a rave on Long Island. Space girl was ok, but Sandra was amazing (I was really into trance at the time). She actually get's into the music which alot of DJs don't bother to do. I also saw DJ Irene in Detroit and she's ok if your into drop mixing. Mistress Barbra was amazing early this year when she played Tunnel.

All in all I think they have a chance. I don't really think they have to look good, but it never hurts! :)

  2. I have to check out this foam party thing. I went to Buzz for Okey, but didn't get a chance to meet anyone up front by the booth. Egg, we have to set up a time to meet up at Buzz. I need some Twilo energy people. haha

And I wouldn't miss lawler for the world man. He spun at twilo on the night of my birthday (March 3rd) incredible. If you were there I was the crazy guy dancing on the divider in the DJ VIP area with this one other girl.... MarioNYC's girlfriend at the time.

    Hope to meet everyone soon.

  3. Ok this is going to be my frist Friday out in DC. I know Okey is spinning at Nation and since I haven't heard anything else around town until Sat night I'll probably hit that up. Is anyone else from the board going to be there? If so is there a spot in Nation where most of you hang (like the stairs at Twilo of old)?

I don't really enjoy cheese trance, but I have to see what the scene is like around here.

  4. Hey eggmok or any other Twilo regulars. I'm a clubplanet/NYC transplant. Just moved into the DC area and looking for things to do around. Kind of dead out here in Upper Marlboro.

Contact me and let's get together, I can't remember if I've ever meet you, but I lived at Twilo from Nov 2000 - Apr 2001. So I'm sure we've meet on the stairs.

    Later Bro.

Follow the light!! haha I swear if I see another set of candy kids start moshing I'm going to shove a set up decks up their ass.

i think the best shit goin right now is the dark tech-house being caned by diggers and the like. it ranges in bpms but the quality is really there, moreso than even progressive i think. trance is fuckin dead. good riddance...

I think you right about tech-house... that does seem to be where people are at now. But I don't think trance is dead by any means... it's getting more progressive. You see more tracks these days that are mixes of genere's. The body has elements of trance, tribal, and tech-house all mixed together with trancey breaks and climaxes, but with tech-house style transitions.

I think BPM is getting faster, but I think it will stop around where it is now and most producers will just get more inventive with their mixing bringing in elements from all over.

  7. So what's your oppinion? Do you think music is getting faster... and if so is there such a thing as too fast?

I read an artical in Mixmag not too long ago stating how people like Moby have steadly increased there beats per minute in each new cd. On the other hand bands like the chemical brothers and leftfield have been slowing down. Sure these are main stream groups, but I'd like to know what people think. Are there still as many "trance-heads" that enjoy there music at 110 or is most of the culture moving into the more progressive 130, 140, or even high range?

    Thoughts?

BTW: hope all the people I know are doing well. been awhile since I posted around here. smile.gif Europe was a blast now I'm trying to lay some life foundations in Detroit! Yes, yes, that's the getto capital of the world, but also the birthplace of the dance scene... IMHO. (Even if it seems to have abandoned it's roots)

No decission here... if Tricky is playing a trip-hop set with the rest of the group then I would sell a foot/toe/or other non-integral body part to get in. haha

The recession is at the bottom right now. You guys knew the market was over valued, this is just part of the correction. Be glad NY is more sensible than CA, I feel bad for all those blokes in Silicon Valley.

Yea I do too because all the single women who flocked out to Silicon Valley looking for a sugar daddy are findding the bag had a whole in it!

  10. Great topic cara!

Sometimes the panhandlers on the trains amaze me. I was on the L Sunday when this scruffy nasty looking fellow got on the train and started to speak in the normal, "I want your money so here's my story". All of sudden he just busts out in opera voice. This old, fat, dingy man with a huge dirty beard had this perfectly harmonious opera voice. It's was pretty scary. Next I expected him to start tap dancing!

I say drugs don't shape music enough. It should be mandantory for all rock stars to be stoned and tripping when composing music. Or maybe that's our problem.... music today is written by some backroom guy and only played by the band. There's NO feeling and certainly NO emotion in any of the new music! Ok, I'll give a little bit... the emotions and feelings just don't seem to hit you the same way. Music from the 60s and 70s just has something unique IMO.

Then again could just be that psychedelic drugs aren't what they use to be. biggrin.gif

  12. Ghost Song

    --

    Awake

    Shake dreams from your hair

My pretty child, my sweet one.

Choose the day and choose the sign of your day

    The day's divinity

    First thing you see.

A vast radiant beach in a cool jeweled moon

Couples naked race down by it's quiet side

And we laugh like soft, mad children

Smug in the wooly cotton brains of infancy

The music and voices are all around us.

Choose they croon the Ancient Ones

    The time has come again

    Choose now, they croon

    Beneath the moon

    Beside an ancient lake

    Enter again the sweet forest

    Enter the hot dream

    Come with us

Everything is broken up and dances.

Indians scattered on dawn's highway bleeding

Ghosts crowd the young child's fragile eggshell mind.

  13. [...]

Well, I just got into town about an hour ago

Took a look around, see which way the wind blow

Where the little girls in their Hollywood bungalows

Are you a lucky little lady in The City of Light

Or just another lost angel...City of Night

Thanks but I need a few sheets of acid and some strong pot to be as good a poet as Jim Morison. Just picked up a book of his collected poetry called Wilderness.

    Another quote from the man:

"Drugs are a bet with your mind."

So who's got some dice I need another roll! biggrin.gif
