  1. Thanks to everyone who answered! The reason I asked about the "no jeans" policy is because I wanted to avoid places like that. Wasn't sure Blue Room and/or The Reef had that policy. don't know if we'll go there, just heard about it. We'll prob. be down there Friday night, so I don't think we'll catch whomever's playing at Felix. We'll probably be in midtown area on Sat. night, which is where Five is. But I didn't know if there were other places I didn't know about.

Not really looking for the khaki, frat-boy college scene. But my friend is looking for some action, so I figure that's the most likely place to find it. We def. are cool with going to bars, but for music we're both into more of a clubby scene, but nothing on the order of 1223, which has too much attitude from what I hear. Music tastes: house, techno, downtempo-not much trance. Not really sure how to describe it.

Thanks again for the replies. You guys are awesome! :)

  2. Hey! Been lurking for awhile and thought I'd post to ask a question. Haven't been out in D.C. for awhile and a friend is coming into town this weekend. Need to know a few things:

    - Is there any place in Adam's Morgan that has a "no jeans" policy?

    - What are some good 21-and-up clubs to go to on Saturday night nowadays? (I was thinking Five)

    Thanks to those who reply!

    Peace,

    Ryno

You'll spend most of your time outside anyway. However, those Suites ROCK! My wife and I love to Party all night into the morning... Get out to the beach by 9A, and then hit the 2 person hot tub in the room and relax!!!!

Well, I did do a reservation submission online to see what they had. It looked like they had rooms with two beds. Honestly, me and my bud only need a room with two beds and a bathroom. The suite does sound nice, but I think it'd be too much money. Man, the way you describe what to do there makes me REALLY excited! Is the hotel really that close to the beach and the clubs?

Thanks for the tip! Are the standard rooms really that small to the point that they're uncomfortable?

  5. Haha, yeah guyman, ANY week away from 20 degree weather in VA is a good one to go to Miami. I would love to be there for WMC, pod, but unfortunately my buddy's break is that week. Guyman, thanks a BUNCH for your link to the Essex House. That was exactly what I was looking for because it seems a lot nicer than the other refurbished hotels and close to a lot of the nightlife and beach. I read reviews for the Clevelander and Beacon and most of them said they were loud, dirty, overpriced, and not worth the money. If you have anymore info. for the area, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Ryno

  6. What's up everybody? I'm hoping to get some response from those of you who are familiar with the Miami/South Beach area. I'm looking for beachfront (or near the beach) hotels that are really close to the nightlife in South Beach and Miami. Not really familiar with any clubs, but some names I've heard are Level, Deep, Crobar, and the like. Anyway, thanks to whomever replies. I'll be coming down there from 3/10 to 3/15.

    Thanks,

    Ryno

  7. Just a interesting bit of info for you guys. I went to Washington Post's online chat yesterday called Got Plans? Basically all the people from the Post who know about entertainment (ie theater, nightlife, attractions) in D.C. answer users' questions. Here is my question and response.

Fair Oaks, VA: Hey Gurus! I want to take my friend from out of town to either VIP or Dream. Problem is, what I've heard of these places is that they are built for 4,000, but only 400 show up. Any of you know a good 21-and-up club that is large, gets packed, and plays techno/house instead of regurgitated top-40? My friend is used to the Amphitheater in Tampa, so I'm trying to represent here!

The Going Out Gurus: Who've you been talking to, Fair Oaks? People complain to me that those places -- especially Dream -- are TOO crowded. Go to Dream. Lots of house and electronic dance music. I was there two Saturdays ago and could barely walk through the second floor to get to the stairs (at like 12:30 or so). Platinum gets full on Saturdays as well. VIP is full on Fridays, not too crowded, but that will give you some room. And they play the music you want. -- Fritz

Sorry. I guess I didn't include it in my original post. Digital City said the funk band was playing at Felix on Sat. so I didn't see how shady could be spinning there if a funk band is booked to play.

  9. VIP and Dream are basically the same club, with VIP having better decor and in a better part of town. Fridays is international night at VIP. Check it out at least once. Unfortunately, because this club doesnt have a door policy the crowd is some of the same low class DC Live people. I was surprised there was not more of an attractive crowd. And I was referred to twice as "Dawg" during conversations with some of the patrons there. Thats why I head to NYC or South Beach on the weekends.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. A really nice club but it can't fill with enough people so they take in ones that are going for the wrong reasons. I may try it once just not this weekend. Thanks for the info, though.

A friend of mine went to VIP and really liked it - but I've never been. I'm looking to check out Felix or Blue Room when I get back - so keep me posted!

What did they say they liked about VIP? I've been checking and it seems that the nights when they have big names come there, it's good. But all other nights are meh. I will let you know about Felix and Blue Room, though. :)

its also a known fact that teh best clubs in the world dont really have a dress code, or they are very lax. and it actually makes sense, if the place is a cub where you go to dance you need to be comfortable, especially for the type of music we listen to.

i wouldnt really like to end up sweaty and stuff wearing some of my good dress shirts and pants, and my feet would just not be able to stand it.

i guess if you like to go to a place and sit down and not dance or minimally dance, then thats OK, but in general most of us here like to "tear it up" when we go out, hence we are extremely picky on places that have strict dress codes. if i was going to a lounge, that would be a different story.

That's a very good point. I usually go to bars when I dress down. I do dress the part when I go to clubs, but that's just a personal preference. The main thing I go for is the atmosphere and music. I'll get out there and dance and get my clothes sweaty. I figure I have a laundry machine, so what does it hurt? But I don't get as down and dirty as some of you guys get, I bet. I've seen some people dancing that just blow my mind!

Kuro seemed interested to do the same yesterday.

That sounds pretty cool. What is the vibe of Felix? Is there a certain type of dress for the place? BTW, I would never go to a club with jeans and sneaks. Just not my style. Also, when is shady spinning there, and what type of set does he run?

  11. Thanks for the link crank. Does any of the other CP'ers have an opinion on this place? Anybody else heard anything? I know you guys know clubs, so I'm asking for your expertise instead of someone who posts randomly on the reviews at other sites. ;)

  12. I think they remodeled DC Live (aka The Spot) and it is now the VIP Club. From what I know it is really nice but I know nothing about the music, crowd, prices, etc. Does anyone else know more?
