  8. if people didn't pay to advertise crappy events, no one would go to crappy events
  9. Sorry to spam, but I need to move these by the end of this weekend!! If you know of anyone interested.. please let me know! ______ These are in MINT mechanical condition and have recently been cleaned and calibrated by an authorized Technics repair technician. Each turntable comes with a 6 month warranty should there be any mechanical problems (parts & labor only - accidents/misuse/abuse/improper handling are not covered) Exterior condition ranges from mint to average. Call me as soon as you can so you get dibs on the better looking ones! (Two of the decks have the option of european voltage under the platter) No dust covers, but most have brand new RCA cables and new tonearm assemblies. I also have Stanton cartridges for 3 of the turntables and slipmats for 4 of them - the first to come by are the first to get them! $290 for 1 (1200's only - $300 for 1210's)! Only $550 for a pair (either 1200's or 1210s)! Plus you'll get the warranty as well, so you can't go wrong! PM me if interested or drop an email to lasix@homegrownnyc.com. Thanks!
  10. agreed. I still find it hard to believe the fascination with sets longer than this. How can you say that sets less than 8 hrs are "not complete"? Of course these guys are using filler tracks and stretching everything out to the max. I'd much rather hear some 3-hour sets from 3 dj's over the course of a night. It's a much more diverse night that way. Plus I get to hear 3 great djs instead of just 1! I did go to Howells at Arc once for about 8 hours.. it was cool to hear him play a few different styles, but it still felt very dragged out.
  11. Huh? Saw Recordings is based out of nyc and so is satoshi. It may be true that he doesn’t play much in nyc these days, but he is definitely around and busy. my top 5: Dave Clarke Francois K Christian Smith Bryan Zentz Ben Long
  12. as long as these marathon sets are not every week, it shouldnt matter.. once a month is cool.. or every other month.

  14. chris liebing is great, but he is most definitely NOT a house dj! (and he's from germany) -- no need to mislead someone just for askin a question, damn! I would suggest leopard lounge if you really want a LOUNGE. you can call them at 212-253-2222 and ask to speak to Matty (and tell him you want house!) Sullivan Room is also great for house music, as long as 200-250 people isn't too many for ya
  15. robots is great for the minimal-style stuff.. I think their next jam is aug. 31 with the hacker.. www.wearerobots.net if you like it a little harder and a little tougher, check out tech-support at Sullivan Room. This thursday is Greg Gow (from Toronto). the next one won't be until Sep. 8th, and just keep posted to www.sullivanroom.com or www.homegrownnyc.com for more info. glad to see the techno movement in new york get slightly bigger..
  16. beltram is from new york. (lives upstate now though..)
  17. come on I know there's more than 1 person with an opinion on this.
  18. this might sound like 20 questions.. but just looking for some opinions. What's the general take on 18+ events? Are there a lot of people in new york who would come out to an 18+ event on a weeknight? Are there a lot of people that are stuck home and unable to go to certain venues because they aren't quite 21 yet? Do you feel like new york NEEDS an 18+ weeknight event? If you're over 21, are you turned off by the 18-20 crowd? Does the genre and/or DJ's playing determine whether or not you'd go out to an 18+ event or is it the general vibe? Are you willing to go check out dj's you might not have heard of on a bi-weekly basis? Do you hate techno? that is all.. thanks for your input!
  19. TECH-SUPPORT THURSDAY AUGUST 18th Big thanks to those who have been showing support as of late helping us to keep things alive! Tech-Support is rockin once again as we present one of Canada's leading techno jocks: Greg Gow. It's been a minute since Greg has been in NY, so his return is definitely welcomed. We are also blessed with the notable and experienced Peter Anthony behind the decks and we will be destroying Mike Cala's liver as he drops a special birthday set of tracks he's been hoarding for this very night! Recruited all the way from Detroit to close out the evening, Luke Hess will grab hold of your ears and make you stick around til we kick you out. GREG GOW [Restructured / Kombustion - Toronto, CA] Toronto-based producer and DJ Greg Gow, has long been a crowd favorite in Toronto's electronic music scene. As the founder of two internationally selling record labels, Restructured and Kombustion, Greg has fast become an ambassador for Canadian electronic music internationally. His rhythmical sensibility and technical talent has led Greg to join the ranks of premiere Canadian artists such as; DJ Preach, Misstress Barbara, John Acquaviva, Algorithm, Mateo Murphy and Richie Hawtin. Presently, Greg holds down residencies at Toronto's premiere electronic dance music destinations, System Soundbar, Comfort Zone and Roxy Blu. Internationally, Greg has represented Toronto in Miami during the 2004 Winter Music Conference at Privilege and this year at Space. He has also played the legendary Detroit Movement Festival on the Techno Blvd. Stage, and was featured at the Tronic Treatment Party with Christian Smith in 2004. Ultimately it is Greg's steady DJing career and his music productions that are leading to his ever-increasing recognition. In the studio Greg combines analogue and digital equipment to compose banging climactic Detroit style techno. His releases on labels including Seismic Detroit, Default, Zen, 2Wars and Tresor have garnered spins from top DJs Rush, Umek, and Mateo Murphy. Greg's own internationally selling labels; Restructured and Kombustion, feature his music and other artists' music from around the world. Restructured productions have been spotted in the crates of globe trotting DJs including Steve Rachmad and Ben Sims. In Chicago, Greg has played alongside DJ Frankie Vega and he is releasing tracks on Uppercut (a subsidiary of Dust Traxx). Greg has forthcoming releases including: the “Jack Theory EP†on Berrata Music (Detroit); “Eclipse†on Metapath; new tracks on Chris Liebing's label Touchtone; and another on Omniscent (California). Restructured is releasing the “No Hockey EP†in Spring 2005 which features remixes of “Game 7†by fellow Canadians DJ Preach and Marco G. Evidently, Greg Gow is a respected Canadian player in the game for the long-term with plans for 2005 and beyond. ______________________ PETER ANTHONY [Kickdrum.Media / Hallucination Limited - NYC] Following his relocation to New York City in 1995 to head up the A&R Department at Astralwerks, Peter Anthony has made a name for himself by taking musical chances and pushing the envelope. Stirring up the New York underground with a series of small parties and events featuring guests that subscribe to a like-minded vision of electronic music's future, his most famous brainchild, Sleaze Factor, was New York's first club night to pioneer a tech-house music policy. This mover and shaker has rocked it from Anchorage to Ibiza, sharing the decks with The Chemical Brothers, Richie Hawtin, Aphex Twin, Josh Wink, Dave Clarke, Carl Craig, Mr. C, Stacey Pullen, Rolando, FC/Kahuna, Mark Broom, "Evil" Eddie Richards, Gavin Hardkiss, Dave Mothersole, Pure Science, Nathan Coles, Q -Burns Abstract Message, Asad Rizvi, Freaky Chakra, Silicone Soul, Grant Dell, Richard Grey, and Three. 2005 found Peter teaming up with longtime friend Three and taking over the reigns of Three’s Hallucination Limited label as the imprint relaunches after a year hiatus with new releases from Robbie Hardkiss, Q-Burns Abstract Message, and Rabbit In The Moon. Add to the mix some soon-to-be completed production work with new production partner Mike Sultan, topped with excursions to guest at Mr. C’s hotly tipped Superfreq party and a return to continental Europe and Ibiza and you have a pretty good year from a ol’ skool bastard. ______________________ MIKE CALA [spex Quatro - NYC] - B-day boy! In his 12 years of being a DJ, Mike Cala has only known one home, New York City. In those years he has seen the New York City nightlife scene evolve into many different sounds and has drawn from each of those sounds to create his very own unique style of playing. His influences run the gamut from deep house to techno and you can be sure it comes through in every one of his carefully pieced sets. Having played in such legendary NYC venues as Vinyl with the likes of Danny Tenaglia, and at Filter 14 along with many other notable hot spots, Mike has built a reputation for playing quality music for any type of crowd and doing it well. ______________________ Plus Special Guest: LUKE HESS [beretta Music / Beretta Gray - Detroit, MI] Born in 1980 and raised in the Detroit area, Luke Hess has harnessed a deep appreciation for electronic music and the expression of the underground movement. His background in mathematics and engineering has given him a scientific approach to the dance floor, using frequencies, tones, and soundscapes to transform surroundings and mood. His faith based music production has landed him a seat with BerettaMusic in Detroit, doing remixes for the Travelers EP, solo work on BerettaGray called "Dwell", and experimental works under alias "Pseudo Scientists". With 7 years of DJ experience, he is regarded as a perfectionist behind the decks, layering records in a very detailed and hypnotic manner - playing along side artists like John Tejada, Konrad Black, Thomas Barnett, DJ 3000, Greg Gow, and many more. He has notable mixes online and in 2003 recorded a promotional mix CD release for UR/Submerge. Luke's continued hard work behind the decks and in the studio combined with his unyielding interest in technology and sound will no doubt stimulate the boundaries of electronic music.
