  1. Oi, I'm off to Mexico City in a couple of weeks and I was hoping somebody could give me some good beta. The only decent website I could find was http://www.elektrorave.com/ ....is this a reliable site? Good sound, good vibe, good people? There has to be. un abrazo!! elrid
  2. Bunker in Copa - small, underground sometimes slips into the horror of gay Madonna-themed nights, but works most of the time. For a nice dinner with your lady take her to Baronetti in Ipanema and head upstairs after 11pm. borderline commercial but fun & upscales. bedroom in São Conrado is young and upscale, also borderline commercial. avoid the ho bars in Copa, esp Help, unless you're up for a good laugh at the fat gringos working the nasty skank. but auggies right, rio is a daytime city - for the night make your way to São Paulo. cheers, ~e
  3. I haven't been to KL in a while, but when i was living in Singapore the scene in KL was ok, but not better than that. Check out Backdoor, though I forget where that is now! There used to be a good club BEHIND the Hard Rock...might be a good place to go ask. Raves are still popular there. Believe it or not, one of the better club scenes in Asia is in Singapore - check out Zouk/Velvet Underground/Phuture (all in the same building). Caution: heavy-duty penalties for drugs in Spore and KL, so BE CAREFUL, but at the same time don't be paranoid. The best parties are held off-island on small Indonesian islands. Ask around, meet people. One good place to go to meet some people and find out what going on is the Liquid Room on Jalan Mohammed Sultan...also check out Knox on the same road and a bunch of other little clubs there. The best club you'll find in Asia is in Jakarta - a cheap flight from KL to JKT is worth the cost if you're jonesing for some club time. It's called Stadium, it's huge, the sound is amazing, and goes non-stop from Frid night to Mon morn (last time I was there). The place is surreal. Go to JJs or Tanamur first for shits and giggles, and then head to Stadium. But watch out, you might be there all weekend. Don't worry about local rioting, it's always happening, but you'll be safe. good luck. ------------------ "I'd rather be sorry for something I did than for something I didn't do"
  4. holy shite! D.T. spun both Fri and Sat, blew my ass clear out of the water. Pacha is a GREAT club, great people, great sound. Only downer is that it closes at 8:30 am...they let dt spin until about 11 tho...the crowd treated him like a God...he was loving it! Looking forward to Friday, got the same advice you gave: BA news first, El Divino around 4am... thanks for all the tips Pancho, anyone coming down drop me a line at: elrid@hotmail.com. This is a great city w/ or w/out all the clubbing. cheers ~e ------------------ I'd rather be sorry for something I did than for something I didn't do
  5. FYI, if you're here already, don't miss Skol Beats this weekend at the Interlagos Autodrome. Good raves are few and far between here, this is the best of the year. Marky, Digweed, MauMau, lots of goodness to be found, check out http://www.guiasp.com.br/mostra_evento.asp?canal=3&id=22161 Clubbing: Start at BoTechno before 1am to figure out what's going on that night. Lov.e is always a good choice, followed by Manga Rosa after hours starting at 5 or 6am. Stereo in Barra Funda is a bit of a hike, but worth it for the system. If you're feeling like a really heavy after-hours, try A Loca downtown... Hundreds of other choices for sure and friendly-ish locals - as per Drone - but tough to wade through the shite sometimes! drop me a line at elrid@hotmail.com for more info (I'll be here for a while). e ------------------ I'd rather be sorry for something I did than for something I didn't do
  6. Rio is renowed for being crap for clubbing, and frankly, it is. Go to Rio for the beaches, come to Sao Paulo for the nightlife. If you're stuck in Rio for some reason, BASE can be ok if you're lucky, more consistent is Bunker 94, though the crowd in both places can be pretty lame. Watch out at Bunker 94 though, sometimes they'll throw in a Madonna night that's bad enough to make a strong man weep. In Sao Paulo, go straight to Lov.e in Vila Olimpia on Fri and Sat nights after 2am. At 6am head to Manga Rosa in Itaim or A Loca in the city Center if you're ready for the heavy. Another good choice for the sound is Stereo in Barra Funda. Most other clubs you'll find will have decent music but a pretty boring crowd that ain't there to dance. Go to http://www.guiasp.com.br or http;//obaoba.com.br and get one of your brasilian friends to translate. have fun...
  7. hmmmm....going to be mighty tough to get that kind of temporary work down here, even if you're already fluent in Portuguese. Anyway, bartenders/waiters/etc are paid almost nothing and don't get tipped. lots of DJs here already...scene is local-heavy and pretty tight....don't know of any outsiders doing any sort of work like that. good luck!
  8. off to B.A. for about 3-4 months, would like to cut straight to the chase instead of having to wade through too many mediocre clubs. Anybody can help with the underground there? thanks in advance....
