  1. I agree completely with Broiler... First, Armin did bust his arse to get up to NYC for the show. He came on at 3:30ish and played until nearly 8am. He did everything he could to show his appreciation for our patience and support, from handing out signed posters to spinning a few extra songs at the end for the few hundred people still there at 8am. On top of that, he stayed after to talk with everyone, take pictures, and sign some more. I happened to be up in the DJ booth around 7am and talked to him for quite a while afterwards. My main takeaway from our conversation was that he loves NYC more than any other city and felt really badly about what happened. He was sincere and honest...not just blowing smoke. He said that despite what the papers/blogs say, he feels NYC's vibe & excitement is still the best!!! As for the other thoughts, here goes... - 2nd DJ had some trouble keeping a flow, not sure if it was due to the fact he had no skills or he wasn't sure when AVB was coming on. Just kept building up and then slowing down. Kind of shitty actually. - Crowd as ok. Met some cool people but had issues similar to those noted above. - Music was on point. He brings it NASTY and DIRTY the way Tiesto used to. If Armin is not #1 at year end, something is wrong because his track selection, mixing, and pure love of DJing/music is unparalleled. All in all a great night, despite some early hiccups. He mentioned he is trying to set up a late summer gig back in NYC in between his Ibiza gigs. So keep an eye out. If anyone does get the audio, please let me know. I would love it!!! Thanks, SPAZ
  2. Keeping in mind that this is my opinion, I think a lot of the key points above are spot on. First, after seeing his piss poor performances at Crobar and Avalon the past two times, I nearly passed on him this time. But chose to go seeing that even a bad Tiesto is still better than 99% of the rest. With that said... Crowd - was relatively empty until 1:15am or so (Tiesto came on at like 12:45am) and upstairs was almost completely empty until that time, filled up pretty quick but still plenty of room to rock out. While it was filled, it was no where near as packed as last time he played at Crobar. Music – First off, Serge Devant (the same guy in the red shirt who opened/closed last time) absolutely KILLED it…AGAIN!!! He opened nice and built a good vibe that got progressively harder towards the end of his set and the opening of Tiesto’s. Tiesto opened with a nice montage (audio & video) from ISOS4, and then just brought it HARD and NASTY for about 4+ hours. He went off at like 4:45am and seemed to be into his set, having much more fun than his last few shows (CP excluded). From what I recall, he stayed away from “Just Be†with the exception of Traffic in the set and then Adagio for his encore (along with Universal Nation from Push – which he played last time for his encore). He hit some old school songs (off ISOS 1 & 2 and Magik 6-7 too, if I recall correctly) and dropped some AVB (Shivers), Max Graham and Markus Schultz. I think the takeaway is two fold. 1) Serge Devant was on FIRE and should be headlining his own shows!!!! 2) Tiesto was much improved as I think it was his best NYC performance since Central Park. It might have been a better set track wise than CP, although not a better all around experience. That is just my $0.02
  3. First, let me lay a foundation before commenting on Tiesto's performance last night. I rarely feel the need to post/reply to this site because, as most of you have pointed out already, a majority of the banter is un-intelligent, un-substantiated, grammatically-incorrect, crap. Second, while most people can waste their days away, being cool, posting all day - my employment at a tier 1 firm prohibits me from doing so. Despite that, the ridiculous posts make for a humorous evening reading. - I have been in the scene for more than 10 years, when SoundFactory was Soundfactory not the twice converted warehouse. With that being said, here are my thoughts about last night and the posts related to that. - In my opinion (and it is only my opinion so try to refrain from the usual BS), there are two ways that people seem to judge how "good" a set is. The most prevailing metric seems to be that a "good" set is determined by how many "top" hits or "recognizable" tracks are played. Case in point: it was or was not a good set because he did or did not play Traffic/Love Comes Again/Flight 643/etc.... - The second basis for judgement, and the one I & most of my friends seem to subscribe to, is a little different. It is based on "how many times does the DJ make you stop and/or scream because he is dropping a sick/favorite/personal/rarely played track?" If that is the measuring stick, then despite Tiesto's non-playing of mainstream songs, he made me/us do exactly that at least 10 times last night. - And because of that, I thought it was a great set! --------------------- And as a side note to the "amatuer" discussion...some people simply have respect/manners - other's do not. Personally, I hate those that do not, push by, and do not say "excuse me". Sorry for the diatribe...just felt the need to put it out there. Peace!
  4. Morillio's party was dope!!! But I can't believe only 2 people had PVD in the torrential downpours at Central Park up there. That was SICK. Absolutely sick! And for those who said Frankie Knuckles, do you have any info on where he spins at now? I just got back from a few months of lliving in a damn hotel room in CHI for business and saw him out there a few times. Would love to catch him in the city.
  5. I will be in London from March 25 to March 30 and then in Paris from March 31 to April 4. Could anyone recommend some clubs/lounges? I would appreciate a few places that are chill and with more house music as well as a few that are simply banging with trance and/or deep/progressive house. Cheers! Spaz
  6. I have heard from a few people that Frankie Knuckles was going to begin a monthly residency here in NYC. Does anyone have any information (ie: when/where/etc...)? If so, this is going to be sick!!! Thanks! B.J. aka SPAZ
  7. Plaid is a great scene, on the right night - Tuesday and Wednesday!!! Friday night is really a poor scene w/ bad music and an even worse crowd.

    Fuck Crobar

I rarely post but I find this thread extremely ironic, funny, and deserving of a post... First off, the person that noted that NYC does not have any lines is flat out wrong. On a traditional Friday at Arc or Saturday at Factory at 4am, or any other spot for that matter, there might not be any lines. But I have seen and experienced long, unfathomable lines/waits for lounges, bars, and clubs here in NYC for no apparent reason other than to make the place look "happening" to the passer-by, in a futile attempt to draw more people into the spot. I do not think this issue is exclusive to one city...it is more respective of the scene in general. I have lived in NYC, LA, Tokyo, BCN, Italy, and Sydney - and the latter was the only place where the club scene was not so pretentous. Most people here in NYC constantly complain about how "our club scene is dead"..."died w/ Twilo"..."Factory is for meatheads"...etc. Yet it is these same people that are in those lines and at those clubs week after week. It is those people that do not realize the other great clubs/lounges that have sprung up since Twilo, albeit on a much smaller scale. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and should be able to voice it freely, but if you do not like a place - simply do not go. You do not need to go around spewing at the mouth like a teenage girl. People have a good time at a club for a variety of different reasons - friends, music, whatever. The opening of Crobar NYC has even begun to create a bit of hype and anticipation for a "revival" in the scene. NYC club-goers speak about the Miami club scene in much the same way as you Miami people do about the NYC scene. I think people should open their eyes and realize the opportunity/blessings they have in front of them and ENJOY IT! I guess for the club-goers of NYC and MIA, the grass is always greener on the other side. Peace! SPAZ aka: B.J.
  9. I will be there...flying back a day early from a business trip in Vegas for this...
  10. Having just moved back from Tokyo (3 months ago) - no SARS comments please - I forgot how true and funny this is. I think I spotted the same family of 8, decked out in their matching sweatshirts, hopping the D at 59th expecting it to take them to 81st Museum...hope they enjoyed the ride to 125th. SPAZ aka: B.J.
  11. I am flying from NYC to LA on Friday 5/9. I will be in LA partying with 2 VERY HOT ladies!!! As my good buddies are promoters out here in NYC, I know how the scene goes (ie: lines, lists, etc...). Therefore, could anyone recommend some hot spots for Friday and Saturday nights? Does anyone have connections (lists or comps)? If you are ever in NYC, the favor will be returned in full - guaranteed! Thanks! B.J. aka SPAZ
  12. First off, Johnny thanks for all of the hook ups in Tokyo. This City is BANANA'S! BANANA'S CODE is pretty tight and Rappongi is unreal! Sooooooo much trouble to get into in Rappongi! Anyway, I do wish I had heard Mikey Mac on Friday though. You are 110% right when you note that we (NYC clubbers) get to hear some of the hottest up & coming talent around! He ripped it up in Cancun last year as well, so I am sure that Friday was crazy! Continued Best Wishes & I'll be back through on my return near the end of July. Peace! Spaz aka: B.J.
  13. What's up everyone? I am moving to Tokyo on January 20th for 6 months for work and am looking for any info on what is HOT over in Japan ? I have heard Tokyo is OFF THE HOOK but does anyone got any names and details? I will also be spending some time in Thailand, so additional suggestions there are welcome as well. Hit me up via PM or post - thanks! ONE! SPAZ ------------------------------------------- "If traveling alone is how it has to be - then FUCK IT!"
  14. I agree with gwyllion ! It completely depends on the person's personality, mood, expectations, and prior experiences. For me personally, I find it better to go clubbing with friends that are girls as they are simply there to chill and get into the music in an attempt to have a great night. (Of course my boys come 1st - but that is without saying!) As for bringing a girlfriend, I also have never found one that loved the music and atmosphere as I do, and hence usually had problems (usually surrounding my "partaking in activities/substances" and just as much around the time we were to leave). Either way, as long as each of you are on the same level - things should be fine, but not necessarily more fun. One! SPAZ ---------------------------- "If traveling alone is how it has to be - the FUCK IT!"
  15. Saw JV two weeks ago for the first time since Mexico - it was an amazing evening! As this is my last full weekend in NYC before moving to Tokyo, I WILL BE THERE BY 12 AND FINALLY GET TO MEET SOME OF YOU! Peace! SPAZ --------------------------------------- "If traveling alone is how it has to be - then FUCK IT!"
  16. Johnny- Great Job on Friday! I have not seen you since you spun during Spring Break in Mexico but you truly were phenominal!!! Glad to see all of the support from your colleagues (by the way, was Riz there as well with Mikey Mac?). Their support has to give you some great feelings of accomplishment and drive you to further levels of success! I will be there Friday - see you at the back bar and hopefully in the booth (if damn security is not such a pain)! Keep Rockin! B.J. aka SPAZ
  17. Let me echo what DJFabio said - Premier is the spot! Art Bar used to be tight but has REALLY gotten rather lame. If you are looking for other atmospheres other than the club scene, there are a few options. South Norwalk, about 10 minutes from Stamford up I-95, is also a decent spot to check out. Nothing CRAZY but a decent time and a quite a few places within walking distance. Then there is always The Thursty Turtle in White Plains - about a 20 minute drive. Peace! Spaz
  18. Makes me a little pissed I had to leave Philly after my apartment burned down up in Norristown. Oh well - I'll roll back one weekend! Need to get my Steak from Jim's! Peace! Spaz
  19. Bin Laden's Head on a Plate will do just fine!!!
  20. Putnin from Russia was the 1st to offer support!
  21. AS MENTIONED EARLIER TOO.... ANNIVERSARY OF THE CAMP DAVID PEACE ACCORDS AS WELL VERY WELL PLANNED!
  22. I NOTICED THAT JUST A SHORT TIME AGO - NO SHIT! OUR GENERATION'S VERSION OF PEARL HARBOR!
  23. THE PHONE COMPANIES SHUT DOWN CELL PHONE SERVICE IN THE AREA TO ALLOW FOR INCREASED "OFFICIAL" COMMUNICATION - MORE AIRWAVE SPACE FOR GOVERNMENT AND RESCUE. DC IS DOWN AS WELL!
  24. There is talk on the news wires that the plane that went down outside of Pittsburg was intended to head towards Camp David or towards the underground tunnel/defense chambers in Western PA. Great Catch 4 Elements - Not many people knew that! Peace!
