We're quite amped to have the boys back in Miami for an intimate, energy-packed night of getting Physical. Philipp and Patrick are just as excited about this one as we are. Simply, be ready to party like you haven't in a damn good while. Topping it all off is the fortune of having the prodigious Chloé. As our extra special guest, she's stopping by Miami to play for us before continuing her tour onto Mutek Festival in Mexico. Fresh off a massive showing at Sonar Festival, Chloé has come to be our favorite French leading lady among DJs and Producers. Her avant-minded, textured and enigmatic range of sounds is able to charm just about anyone into delirium. She remains a staple and heavily echoed name throughout European club culture, with recurring tour stops through little known places like Rex Club - Paris and Fabric - London. If you don't know Chloé, do yourself a favor and allow yourself be tantalized by this woman. Eclectic is an understatement for this one, this is a night set for sheer indulgence. www.myspace.com/getmandy www.physical-music.com www.dj-chloe.com www.myspace.com/chloekillthedj Dynacord Cobra Sound powered by Big Audio. SAFE is a party for people and music, not a for-profit business venture. For community, by community. No promoter. No List. No VIP. No nonsense. http://www.safemusic.us -- On the night of Saturday August 16th, 2008, Safe welcomes Matthew Dear. Simply put, he is one of the most complete electronic artists on the planet. -- You could throw around generous descriptors and any number of genre-locking terms “electronic pop, minimal house, acid techno“ but you’d still fail to get to the center of Matthew Dear. With releases under no fewer than three aliases, including False (M_NUS), Jabberjaw (Perlon), and Audion (Spectral Sound), the Texas native has earned his international status over the course of a decade, getting his bearings on the DJ decks as a teenager to flooring sold-out crowds at venues like Fabric, and releasing universally praised original productions. After meeting Ghostly founder Sam Valenti IV at a house party in the late 90s, Dear eventually produced the A-Side for the label’s first 12†release, Hands Up for Detroit. Since then, Dear issued his pop-infused debut album Leave Luck to Heaven and its counterpart Backstroke, which caught mainstream attention, as well as myriad releases under his club-oriented pseudonyms (including the omnipresent, chart-topping “Mouth to Mouth†as Audion). Further accomplishments include requests from the Postal Service and Hot Chip for his remix skills, and incessant touring with constantly evolving DJ sets and live performances. He’ll still tell you that his greatest pleasure is a quiet day of fishing, but with the release of his sophomore full-length, Asa Breed, and his live band US/Euro tour as Matthew Dear’s Big Hands, itâ€s clear that Dear has no intention of slowing down anytime soon. -- Amid the maelstrom of aliases adopted by Detroit’s prodigious and prolific Matthew Dear, Audion is undoubtedly the grittiest. Alternately demonic and playful, the Audion sound rides a wave of raw sexual energy; the sense of tension, release, lust and doom create a vortex of psychological and visceral elements. One gets the sense of conversing with a rambling, incoherent psychopath who could lash out at any moment. The threat is the intrigue. The debut singles “Kissesâ€, “The Pong†and “Just F*cking†seemed to come from nowhere in 2004, bringing untamed synths and raucous beats into a devastating melange. The Suckfish LP followed and solidified Audion as one of the most powerful voices in techno. It wasn’t until 2006 that the world would know Audion, and it took the epic “Mouth To Mouth†to do just that. A 13 minute experience, Mouth To Mouth would go on to be one of the most well known techno songs of the decade, no easy feat for an instrumental. “Noiser†and “Billy Says Go†followed in 2007 and 2008 respectively, ensuring a legacy of individualism and distinctiveness would be maintained alongside a searing live set which has circled the globe many times over. -- Matthew Dear has been producing and DJing for more than 10 years now but even to those familiar with his music, either produced under his given name or one of his aliases (Audion (Spectral Sound), False (M_nus), Jabberjaw (Perlon), the initial release of Asa Breed was a revelation. Having impressed the critics with his 2003 debut Leave Luck To Heaven, which received a uniquely glowing critical reception for an electronic album, even from pop oriented periodicals like Rolling Stone, Spin and Entertainment Weekly, it was clear, with tracks like Dog Days and the follow-up Backstroke EP, that Dear was pushing his moody, sexy minimal techno albums to new heights of accessibility with the inclusion of vocals and his ever maturing song-writing style. With the release of Asa Breed, Dear went from hinting at his pop-sensibilities to openly celebrating them on what The Guardian called "an extraordinary, impeccable album of avant pop" and what Philip Sherburne called 2007's "most unexpected pop masterpiece". From the pulsating, steadily growing tension of the album's opener "Fleece On Brain" to the infectious, ecstatic single and crowd-favorite "Don and Sherri" with its dance-floor leveling chorus, the album "bristles with energy and ingenuity"[The Wire] but it's the inclusion of Dear's more personal song-writing style utilizing rock instrumentation that made Asa Breed such a "beautiful set of contradictions"[Anthem]— it's not often an album containing bluesy guitar and brooding folk reaches #20 on Billboard's electronic charts. Now, with the release of Asa Breed Black Edition, critics and audiences will be able to re-discover one of 2007's most unique releases re-packaged to include remixes and re-envisionings from Four Tet and Hot Chip, with whom Dear will be touring the UK in February. on March 13th Matthew and his band will be performing the first a few select “Black Edition†shows @ Hiro Ballroom "Matthew Dear infuses the snapping, beeping compositions of his second album with a sincere yearn, broadening the genre in the process." SPIN "Dear has come into his own with Asa Breed, a bootstrapping album that not only reveals the miles walked, but an ambitious road map ahead." PITCHFORK
