  1. As I came out of Exit, I got a flyer for an event at Webster Hall on July 3, featuring Johnny Vicious, Johan Gielen, and others... well, say it ain't so... even though WH isn't the greatest of places, I've been wanting to see Gielen live for a while, and the date he's coming to town is a date that I'm going to be out of town! But I wonder... I checked his schedule - 7/2 in the Netherlands, then two gigs on 7/5 - first in Netherlands, followed by one in Belgium. Can he really squeeze a trip to NYC in there?
  2. For the record, he did NOT play For An Angel
  3. PVD was great I'm glad the line was pretty quick - I got there around 10:30 pm with ticket in hand and got in within 10 minutes, without even getting carded! I didn't experience any issues with the staff The problem was too many people. I thought that Exit would be able to handle it, but I was proven wrong. I guess no club in NY is big enough for the crowds that PVD draws. Either that, or the ticket prices need to be jacked up even more. What's the largest indoor space in the NYC area? Maybe that's what should be tried next time.
  4. Interesting chill tunes, but it wasn't mixed I might still have it, if I haven't already deleted it Lemme check
  5. Speaking of eye candy, CP probably has a good amount of it Ok, maybe in Cancun, there are more peeps and they're less inhibited, but maybe we could do the next best thing around here... I hope we do a beach meetup soon, and I hope more people show up than last time (at JH's Surf Club, where I think a good number of CP-ers came, but couldn't find each other). Howz that sound? What would be a good location, with not only a good beach and facilities, but would be relatively easy for most of us (especially the city peeps) to get to?
  6. Are you going to the show in Flushing? http://www.importxpression.com (any other CP-ers going?)
  7. I haven't seen any flyers online, but at Destination NYC (the Stuck on Earth event at Seaport that featured Carl Cox), the "flyers" for Boo 6 were more like books. xpander told me that that's a sign that the promoters have too much money
  8. Forget who's performing or what kind of music is being played. It seems that all the eye candy there makes the trip worthwhile! Damn, I sure wish I had done that stuff over my spring breaks instead of doing things like trying to find a summer job related to my major (which didn't happen that year), and working on a project in order to graduate on time (which also didn't happen). I guess I still have opportunities as a old working fogey, with some money to boot, but with only two weeks vacation time each year, I need to be selective and there's lots of other places I wanna visit and things I wanna do. Also, has anyone here also been frequently hit with bad weather whenever they went to some tropical type of place? It happened to me when I went to Puerto Rico and Miami. Over there, when it rains, it pours.
  9. It's probably a stretch to say PHENOMENON was phenomenal, but I had a great time. It was certainly a good deal for free (for me). I felt there was quite a good vibe, at least on the main floor. I thought there was a little bit too much KTU-type tunes for my tastes, but the DJ's played it well. No frisking at the door was good too. I hope no one starts some shit that they need to start doing that again. The Phenomenon dancers were cool, but I got a little bored of them by mid-way through their third act. I guess there's only so much you can do with towels. I gotta give props to the dancer who was up on the platform off the second floor balcony. Sad but true, I'd be scared if I had to do that. As for the Victoria's Secret show... Was the food stand (for burgers, pizza, etc) closed, or was it moved from its usual place near the roof? I could've used some of that stuff. Junior was rockin' as well, at least for the hour and a half of his set that I was able to stay around for.
  10. A gold medal for Long Island! She did a great performance, but it's too bad everyone after her messed up one way or another. I guess Kwan, Cohen, and Slutskaya left their best stuff in the short program. I'll say at least the judges did a good job. It breaks my heart to say this, but Kwan (with her fall) messed up in a bigger way than Slutskaya (who put her hand on the ice on one landing) did.
  11. canada won, 3-2 can't believe the US lost both of today's medal matches vs Canada (the other was in women's curling, for the bronze)
  12. Most of you probably already know this, but if you don't... it's our very own Rudy G!
  13. But having said what I said, the Afghans seemed to prove that music of any kind is almost a basic need, something that the Taliban tried to suppress
  14. Correct me if I'm wrong... Lately, when Howells spins, at least in NY, it's all him the whole time, from opening to closing He's become known not just for being good, but being good for so many hours on end
  15. Well it could be a good thing. Call it "education". They've noticed "good" (or at least "better") music, enough to arouse curiosity. They can now tell what a "good" DJ sounds like, and now know who Judge Jules is, and why people give (or should give) a hoot about him.
