  1. I posted my review on another board and figured I would copy it over here.......so enjoy

Ok here goes I had a rough choice to make on Saturday which was between the Howells B-day party @ Arc or The opening of Spirit and considering I am responding to this thread you figure out where I went.

Of course when you’re walking down 27th street you start to think a bit about the ‘ol Twilo days you can’t help that. I was determined to go into the place with a clear mind and remember that this is a completely different venue.

Anyway get to these huge wooden doors and me and my girl were supposed to be on this damn guest list and of course we are not. I was like fuck it I paid the $60 for the both of us to get in, Before I go on keep in my this was a preview party not even the grand opening and it was $30. What I found very interesting was that Security was very easygoing entry and all night. The staff seemed to be also very receptive

They have totally revamped the venue its now 3 floors:

The top floor consisted of the I guess the “chill out†room where the sound up was not that good – but what was interesting about the room was the fact that you could get massaged or get your tarot cards read and some other crap. It’s cool into all that kinda shit. Also that’s where they have the restaurant which overlooks the whole main floor.

The Second floor seems to be the VIP area which I couldn’t get into . The area also overlooks the main floor and the DJ booth is up there (booth is directly opposite from where it use to be)

Main Floor was where all the action was they have this huge Globe thingy and a couple of video screens where they were showing various images. The stage was always filled with Dancers and Performance artists and such. They also came into the crowd and interacted with them. Which was I guess fun to watch.

At this point I should mention that the DJ was not really that good he was pretty beat all night long (this is why I bitched about the cover price above). To top it off standing right next to me for awhile was THE SCUMFROG and hoping he walk up stairs and take over but that didn’t happen. The sound in the place was pretty good they seemed to have a few bugs to work out but it sounded a hell of a lot better than Avalon’s Sound System. The other issue I had was that it was very bright in there.

To sum it all up it’s a very artistic type of venue and it has the potential to pull a unique crowd and put on good shows as long as they remember it’s the music that draws the crowd. So hopefully they will be getting some decent names in there. Will I go back? Probably…… The room seems to have some kind of magic in it. ;)
