  2. Hi guys,

A very special thanks to everyone who posted positive comments about me in this thread.

As mentioned above... I agree that comparing myself with Boris or Jp is not a good comparison as the style of music that they play (for the most part) and the way that they play it is different from mine.

However, these guys are NYC legends, no doubt about that.

The numbers that they pull on a consistent basis for the years that they have is something that I truly respect and look up to. They are great in there craft and to have such a large number of loyal fans the way they do is something that I dream of having one day here in NYC.

I've been dj'ing since a very young age as I started dj'ing in 1989. While dj'ing has always been a passion of mine, it was always a hobby up until a few years ago.

The out of town / international gigs are always a lot of fun and I'm living a dream that far exceeds what I had envisioned in my youth.

All of the interest and support that I have from my fans is something that I truly appreciate.

See you all on the dance floor :)

  4. I just saw the results - what the hell????????

I havent heard of half of those DJ's - seriously what a joke. Who is voting? That magazine poll has ruined booking of DJ's - Christopher Lawrence 'ranked' higher than Carl Cox???? What the hell! I am completely confused. The whole notion of giving DJ's a 'ranking' is soooooooooo freakin' lame I cant even begin to explain.

There are so many FANTASTIC DJ's in the world who could kick the crap out of 80% of these people on the list but will never get the chance to because most promoters don't know the difference between Epic Trance and Atmospheric Jungle - so this list is made to be way too important.

This list is VERY bad for electronic music and is totally over shadowing new talent and producers who can't get a break.

    I am just thoroughly disappointed.

The problem with the top 100 list this year is that a lot of the dj's on that list did mass marketing campaigns through myspace so you have a lot of names on the list that obviously don't belong. Dj's who have never played outside there own city let alone internationally.

There is unfortunately no way to judge who is the best dj. Dj'ing is not like a sport where the best player in that sport stands out as the best. It's all about marketing, connections, strategic planning, business relationships and invested interest ($$).

Another problem I see is that most people associate producers and dj's as being the same when they are completely different from one another. Producing great tracks doesn't make you a great dj. I personally see this as a problem and now more than ever we will be seeing a lot more producers touring the world as dj's with the widespread use of Ableton live which allows producers to plug in there laptop and play there pre-mixed dj sets. They should have a top 100 producers poll to seperate the two.

This year's Top 100 Dj list imo should be renamed to The Dj Mag top 100 myspace spammers list :)

  6. This will be a great night! Mercurio from Argentina is also playing. He does a really cool live act using guitar & ableton live as he dj's, very big in South America.

I made a mix last year that contains 7 Mercurio tracks (and a couple others from different artists). It's more of a chill-out / opening mix, check it out before you go see him tomorrow night! :)

Enjoy and see you tomorrow night!

  7. Hernan is such a great dj, glad to hear such positive reviews. I just spoke with him via email and he said he had a great time at Crobar on Friday.

Coincidentally, while we had Argentina's king at Crobar New York I played this past Friday at Crobar Buenos Aires (in the country Hernan built). Crobar Buenos Aires is a great venue and the vibe there is amazing!

  8. Hi guys,

There's a free track available from my label (Acute Recordings) on Beatport.com from Pablo Roma of Argentina.

Originally released in mid-March of 2006, this track was ranked number 3 in Beatports top 10 best sellers and has been hammered by the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, and of course by myself.

To get your free copy just go to http://www.Beatport.com/Acute , click on "view label tracks" located on the left hand side of the screen, and scroll down. The track is called Mykonos.

    Enjoy!!

  11. Since it first opened, crobar has done everything right in every way and continues to adapt and get better. They have played a major part in bringing back the vibe and love for clubbing that was at one time crushed and lost by the closing of Twilo and other legendary clubbing landmarks.

Aside from consistantly bringing us the top dj's in the world, they are very giving and welcoming to the local artists as well. As a local dj who has played there countless times, I can tell you that they are the most professional venue I have every worked with when it comes to how well they treat there artists.

Crobar is a perfect example of how a club should be run in every aspect. It's a living legend among NYC super clubs.

    March 18th and March 31st!!

  12. This venue is the best kept secret in nyc.

The sound system, lighting, and dj booth are top notch. An easy contender for best sound system in the city.

The sound system was designed by Gary Stewart Audio (same maker of legendary sound systems found at Sound Factory, Vinyl, Centro Fly, Palladium, list goes on...).

But aside from this venue having a great sound system, the staff are super nice and the vibe is different from any place I've been to in the past couple years.
