  1. I disagree on the dj's drug use being responsible for the crowds...artists have always been fucked up. Tons of dj's are when they spin. Rock and Roll artists been drunk, stoned, cokes up, shooting heroine, etc. forever. Sure it doesn't promote a drug free clientelle but that doesn't mean that the club is a crackden because of the dj. PVD never does drugs and his entire fan base rolls so what does that mean?? And about 1998 - 2000 - yeah the crowd was better and the door stricter - but you could still get in with jeans / sneaks whatever if you had the right style and attitude and look. That's one thing i liked about Paris - door was strict but it was HER policy...nothing was a hard or fast rule was all about how you presented yourself.
  2. It was common knowledge there was gonna be dress code with Paris at the door. Gimme a break - opening night and you're all worked up cause she wouldn't let you in with a t-shirt LOL. Think back a few years with Paris at SF - if you had no personal style you'd have gotten thrown off that line too until 5 or 6 am. Of course, just depends on your attitude and eveything...cause if u know how to work the door you could probably get in with a tank top
  3. You forget - last night Black opened (and wasn't shut down lol until well after avalon closes) so it wasn't the JP / SF factor i don't think...
  4. My roomate said the crowd was absolutely horrible and there was no space to move - she had a bad time. I didn't go cause i knew that would happen - Cox in NYC is always a nightmare cause he never spins anywhere big enough
  5. Ok - i usually stay quiet and outta stuff - i'm an OLD SKOOL jp / sf fan from forever ago. Unfortunately there's a significant element of his "fans" who i'm not even sure if they are into his music or not but what is for sure is that drugs ARE the scene for them. And not just a little bump or a pill or whatever but serious drugs like G and Tina that really fuck u up when you do lots of them AND are sooo obvious that you are on them. I think the best thing JP could do for his career would be to do early parties that close at 4 or 5 am for a while...have him concentrate on spinning 6 hour sets of good stuff so he can mix nice and tight and maybe start to build a fan base of people who want to hear him instead of kids who want to go get fucked up. Suks that this shit follows him around but it does and so long as they aren't strip searching people on the way in there's really no way to keep drugs outta the club - i mean sure a club should have decent security but its the people that make the party.
  6. Well we had a phenomenal time...having known how crowded that place gets and being with girls who are like 5foot and 90lbs we got there early (11) and got spots on and just in front of the platform infront of the back bar. perfect view perfect speaker orientation the girls had room to dance (well not LOTS of room) up on the platform and the lights were great from there too. I was right infront of the platform and def got crowded with the crowd pushing back to us from the front but was always able to dance. Ton TB was GREAT opening up - one of the best opening sets I've heard and Tiesto's set was top 2 or 3 ever heard from him. Was seriously great - crowd near us was also great. Honestly had one of the best times - kinda like PVD set @ WMC in 2002. Ronin - bumped into you on the deck for a moment after the set...way too hot up there so we hit the outside for a bit. Had to fly home that afternoon and check out of hotel etc. so left by 8 i think
  7. ahhh...a deep wardrobe lol i'll keep my eye out..err..open? hmm
  8. hey DaVe - hoping to get there around 5 so if we're on time (which is possible actually) and can find the booth we'll stop by 6pm... ...if not i always run into you anyway - Pete
  9. man i'll see you there - def at ultra, possibly at space... ...u bringing your flight shirt?
  10. don't know if the dates are wrong or not BUT nyc is always hot in march cause all the dj's are in for WMC so they do US tours then...
  11. LOL or you can just know the 2 or 3 things you know you really want to see and just go with the flow otherwise its not like there's no one down there to chat on the beach with about what's going on the next night...
  12. Yeah i don't know about cheap hotels anywhere near the club - if i were you i'd go to hotels.com and just see what you can find and be sure to read the reviews. Anything really cheap in Manhattan is likely to be a really shoddy place. Newark will definitely be the closest and if you're just coming for the club i'd recommend a hotel in NJ, maybe even near the airport - cause it will be a lot cheaper...
  13. i think mine will just about pay for the cover @ Arc and the subway ride to and from
  14. Project played limelight...I was there. Was a great set I think it was 1.5 - 2 years ago though. And i may have mixed up SF with Exit for the other one but he was here at least twice since Tunnel closed - but both were a while ago
  15. He played both SF and Limelight after tunnel closed.
  16. lol Z u'r killing me Project has been in NYC several times in the last couple years as well...
  17. well of course there are tons of those!!! you have to look to smaller venues to find them and venues will only book people who they think will bring in a crowd / people only come to spin at places that make them a good offer or they really just happen to be here for something. i think most of the dj's you're referring to have good, regular, steady work elsewhere and would only come here if it was worth their while - as in they felt they could build a following her, someone made them a nice offer, or there's a promotion group here that's ready to get behind them... ...that's true everywhere though.
  18. I don't recall him being at SF but he definitely bagged on several other dates. And there are other house / prog / trance dj's (other than PVD, S&D, etc.) that have come through here / play here semi regularly (like a couple times a year). Maas Cattaneo Holden (is coming to town in March i think) Glaude Farina Scot Bond etc. etc. NY is a hard place to have a residency I think (at least it has been for the last couple years). Maybe this will change now that there are 4 or 5 clubs with serious systems and the size to make it worth while for some of these folks with residencies elsewhere to swing through....
  19. yes his monthly residency is still at Arc at least through March...in April (even if Arc is still open) he's booked to spin @ Skol Beats in Brazil the last saturday of the month.
  20. Yeah power isn't the only important thing in a sound system. I'd rather have a weaker system tuned right then some of the crap i've heard at SF... ...its true that I have been to SF a couple times when the sound was perfect BUT the engineers need to understand the difference between how house, trance and genre's need different tuning AND how a specific dj tends to want to use things - that's a benefit to the type of rotating residency that Twilo had: there was diversity in music but enough regularity for the sound guys to develop the perfect settings for each of the monthly parties. I've also noticed that there are regularly blown buzzing speakers at SF - often for the highs - and that just kills the ears and the overall effect. With the power they have there and the layout they could make it great if they got a good system down... btw - if you ever go from Avalon --> Arc I think it becomes immediately apparent how much better / fuller / cleaner the Arc system is. I know that Avalon is a very odd space but even just comparing the middle of the dance floor at Avalon to anywhere on the floor at Arc there is a huge difference. (haven't been to Crobar or Spirit yet so not commenting on those)
  21. ahhh Winter Party - a few years ago my girl and i ended up down there that week without really knowing what was going on...have to say we had a great time - the parties were very cool and laid back and hard core.
  22. I don't know that he's saying he cares...more like: "WOW if it gets out that she's a club girl and rolls then the parents of all those 10 - 14 year olds are gonna be pretty pissed." personally i don't give a dayum - i've always thought she was a skanky low-class party whore who (props to her) made it big
