  1. OK, I know hip-hop isn't popular here. But any more replies?
  2. Top-40 variety OK. Just want to get down to Sean Paul, Juelz Santana, Nelly, et al. -- you know, the basics. I've heard that Phoenix Landing in Cambridge on Mondays does this. How is it there? Also, what about the clubs downtown, like Mantra, Caprice, Axis? What are their hip-hop nights if they have such things? Thank you.
  3. I read somewhere that when a celebrated DJ is spinning in Europe, everyone in the club dances facing the DJ, whereas in the US everyone dances facing each other. Or is it the reverse, or some variation thereof? I can't remember but am now curious whether this sounds like a familiar distinction to anybody?
  4. Hi- just wondering whether this is a weekly thing or only for the next two Thursdays? Interested in attending this hip-hop night sometime, as I've enjoyed Mantra in the past. Thanks.
  5. What's the word on Trio and Caprice?
  6. OK. So what do you think of them?
  7. Well, my early nightlife days were in Manhattan, and by comparison Boston's options are obviously limited -- limited mostly, it seems, to the mainstream. But I'm all about giving this city a chance, since flat-out dismissal of the kind you suggest would be both arrogant and useless. On a separate note: thanks to Groovefire for the reply.
  8. Returning to Boston nightlife after a brief hiatus, I'd like to check out some relative newcomers on the scene: Saint Nitery - Exeter St., Boston 33 - 33 Stanhope St., Boston Middlesex Lounge - 315 Mass. Ave., Cambridge Gypsy Bar (already been there - see my other thread about this place) I'd appreciate some reviews of these places, and/or recommendations of other new-ish spots.
  9. I checked out Gypsy Bar over the weekend and liked it well enough, but am curious as to why it replaced Pravda, which I'd assumed was doing fine. Anyone know the back-story? Also: what do people think about the new space?
  10. About 7 blocks from Central Sq. towards MIT. It just opened, and is supposed to be like the Enormous Room -- half lounge, half dance club. I've been to the Middle East many times. Middlesex is an entirely different genre of venue altogether.
  11. Has anyone been to this place -- kinda new, on Mass. Ave. in Cambridge? I've heard good things about it but want to know if it's good place to dance. Thanks.
  12. I hear it's a good spot for hip-hop. How large is the dance-floor, how well-populated is it, and is the emphasis on dancing?
  13. I used to go to Cheetah and NV, but since the scene is always a-changin' I'd appreciate some new recommendations. Places that aren't too ghetto but aren't pretentiously posh either, and neither too hipstery nor very B&T, please. Something with the vibe of, say, Shelter, but primarily hip-hop rather than house music. Thanks!
