As an Ultraworld neophyte, can someone tell me generally what the scene is like, as compared to buzz or velvet, for instance. Especially helpful would be to know what one should bring, how most kids dress, search issues, etc. out, judson
I've heard rumors that Velvet has Nation for New Year's and that Alex Lauterstien is spinning. Don't forget the Ultraworld party on New Year's @ the DC Armory. The line up has not been announced yet.
Right before Oakenfold spun at buzz in Washington, DC, Scott Henry said the following in a washingtonpost.com interview. It is assumed he that was speaking about Oakenfold's rate in DC. "IT's very hard to keep prices down when dj fees keep going up and up. Some dj's that will go unnamed get $25,000 and higher for spinning a two hour set. It has become ridiculous. I think the dj fees will hit a cap eventually when the promoters start to say no way. " You can read the full interview at: http://discuss.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/zforum/01/brace0824.htm It's a great interview and gives an interesting perspective on Scott and the dc scene. out, judson
The Deep Dish site announces that they are playing buzz on Saturday, November 24 for their GU Moscow release party. I assume this is an error and that they mean Friday, November 23. If I am right, that means Friday: Deep Dish Saturday: Ultraworld Radiate (PVD, SH, etc.). wheeeeeeeeeee. What a Thanksgiving. commence jumping up and down. judson
read the rest of the board, dcnites.com, buzzdc.com, www.lemurgene.com, eastcoasthappy.com, etc. enjoy. i can't wait to kick it. crazed until the fed ex deadline, judson
i've had a series of people flake flake flake on me, so i've got an extra ticket. i'll be there and ready to roar. i'll be the tall boy (6'6"), spikey hair, dark jeans, cowboy boots, and a dark blue hawaiian shirt with orange flowers. i'll be hard to miss. cheers, judson
Check out the Village Voice online. They post listings before they show up in print. Also, the New York Times is good sometimes. You will have more luck and get a better place if you look in Brooklyn too. It's a much better place to live than Manhattan. Above all, be prepared for a fight. Be decisive and jump on something the minute you like it, but don't jump on something because of desperation. good luck.
a big shout out to brooklyn. you might also want to check out velvet nation (nation's saturday night) www.velvetnation.com. the music is not as good as friday night, but the atmosphere is really nice. the crowd is a lot more mello than friday. people are very approachable too, outgoing, good stuff in sum. the cover is usually $12. there is no dress code, no searches. it usually picks up around 12 or 1. the music on all of the dance floors is the same (hard house/pop). cheers, former south [park] slope resident
