  1. What's up bro? long time no hear... How much are you selling it for, although I already have a mint Behringher ..... I need a new recorder/burner if you're trying to get rid of one. Peace! Richie Rich
  2. Don't forget acid house -- probably one of the most influential sounds of dance music for what people call "trance." That sound was tweeking and sweeping with massive electronic chord progressions and analog synths years before record stores even knew what to call it. New York clubs like Red Zone, Limelight, Tunnel and Mars catered specifically to people who got off on this new sound which is tradinionally about 10 beats per minute slower than a trance song, but equally euphoric.
  3. Has anyone heard the new Gatecrasher Digital CDs? I have -- and have to say that it's not very consistent, compared to their previous releases, even though Scott Bond's mixing is on. It is three discs. Disc One has three memorable tracks: the first track, which is by the Art of Trance and has a sweet bass riff (remember "Madagascar?"). After that, I usually I just skip all the way to track 14 which is "Dance Valley Theme" by System F and is a true motivator intended to raise spirits. Track 15 is an incredibly etheral track by Push (remember "Strange World"?) which is the best underground track I've heard in a long time. Disc Two is comprised of very techy-trance songs which sound cold and heavy. I like track 3 Marco V's "Simulated," track 6 Mauro Picotto's "Verdi," and a few others. The last track on Disc Two is a tune titled "Electronic Technology" by Norman DJ. I'm still trying to get word as to whether Norman DJ is Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim, but nobody knows. Disc Three is chill town with most of it being suitable for velvet tapestry, hors d'ourves, and martini stirs. Very difficult to get up to. Very easy to turn off. If you know somebody that owns the set, record it or burn it. Definitely listen to it before you buy. Anybody else like any tracks from Gatecrasher Digital?
  4. I went to that gig last Saturday night, and despite the negative comments in this post, Padilla made everybody in the club dance. He obviously still knows how to move a crowd, and that's probably why management there decided to take him on every weekend. He must be doing something right. Peace!
  5. bro -- when you get down here people will either love you or hate you. the people who are originally from up north or who are open minded will want to hang out with you, but there are many native Floridians who think that NYers are a product of the devil. me and all of my friends have moved down here from NY and most of the DJs who I listened to in NY either moved down here, or come down here religiously. i got spoiled by keoki at limelight, vazquez at sound factory, johnny, and danny tengalia wherever they wanted to play. but i have found true talent in many local DJs who are equally as impressive -- you just have to know who plays what, and where. as far as house music is concerned, there definitely is a revitalization in the genre down here leaning more towards tribal and chicago, but I prefer the tech or acid house sound which peeks once in while. club space in miami is notorious for throwing house sets until the "afterhours" hours are well into daylight. not only that, they play different types of dance music there. sutra in fort lauderdale has some really nice sets as well. primarily, most of south beach has detracted from deep trance and has reverted back to house, however you will find the radio stations down here, both commercial and underground, committing themselves to trance. welcome to miami.
  6. I'm not sure how we jumped from girls to sound systems but... Sound systems are key. I went to Level not too long ago after the revamping of their sound system and it sounded muddy and flat. I'm not sure if the engineer EQed the main room properly, but it sounded worse than before. I'm sure they spent serious $ on the new system, but they failed to tune it to the acoustic properties and dimensions of the club -- and the ear. So in a sense it doesn't really matter what kind of equipment is used as opposed to how well you know how to use it. Best sound system in Fort Lauderdale: Chili Pepper. For those of you who have seen Rollins Band, Orgy, Jane's Addiction, The Cult, and other performers/DJs at that venue know what I'm talkling about. What's going on with the Pepper nowadays anyway? By the way, Acosta was spinning that night at Level.
  7. You're exactly why most of South Florida DOESN'T go to Riverfront to dance and heads to Space instead. To get to Space you take I-95 all the way north until the road forks. You can't miss it -- it'll be on your left & it will look familiar. PS -- most of us don't watch TV that obssessively because we're all busy getting laid and utilizing other social skills.
  8. I'd like to hear Nick Warren at night on the patio, then walk into the small room and hear Aprhodite throw down some phat tracks. Then when I got amped and my party supplies kicked in I'd love to hear Edgar V open up for a marathon DuMonde set, only to walk back out on the patio after sunrise to check out Sasha and Dig spin one-for-one a la Northern Exposure. I'd be sure to bring a microrecorder and master everything to CD. Peace!

New to the board... second post. When I first heard that song, it reminded me of Inxs. The vocal track is very reminiscent of Hutchence.
  10. Are there any special DJs in Manhattan the last weekend in December? Who, Where? Might be up there for 4 days...
