  1. Main Area

    MJ COLE

    Talking Loud Records //: UK

The leader of the UK's burgeoning 2-Step Garage movement, MJ Cole's

slick productions have been met with enormous critical and commercial success

around the world. His album Sincere notched a nomination for Britain's

coveted Mercury Prize, equivalent to the Grammy for Album of the Year. His

singles "Crazy Love" and the album's title track both achieved great chart

success in Britain, and brought further attention to 2-Step stateside. Cole

came of age in the UK drum n bass scene, and began his production career in

the studio working with SOUR records. His earliest production work was

engineering for Elizabeth Troy, who would later return to the favor by

providing vocals on Cole's "Hold On To Me" and "Crazy Love". MJ quickly

became the engineer of choice with SOUR, and he began working alongside Ed

Rush, Trace, and Freq Nasty. He was introduced to the UK Garage scene by

doing production work for Ramsey and Fen, and their remix of Kym Mazelle's

"Big Baby" and "Quality". He was hooked by the infection Garage sound and

sought to make his own identity in the scene. Initially met with resistance

due to its unique sound, the single "Sincere" was given a very limited

pressing, that is until it found its way to Pete Tong. Tong featured the

track on his national radio show, and inside a week, Cole was signed to

AMPM records and the song was on its way to the UK Top 40. Now he is

among the most sought remix artists, retouching tracks by Goldie, TLC, Gwen

McRae, and Incognito. In addition, his success as a producer has propelled

him onto the world stage as a DJ, and a global ambassador for 2-Step.

    SCOTT HENRY

BUZZ / Ultra Records //: DC

A man who needs no hype, bio, or introduction. Scott Henry's place in the

local club folklore is secure, as he has been a central figure in the

development of both DC and Baltimore club culture since the late 1980's.

His national reputation exploded in the early to mid '90s, as Scott's

weekends were spent playing all over the US at the biggest one-off events

and the highest profile clubs. His stock continues to rise with recent

commercial success of his mix CDs for Ultra "Buzz The Sound of the

Nation's Capitol", and this year's installment, "The Politics of Sound".

Already a national staple on the club circuit, Scott is primed for

international recognition, having recently played at one of the world's

biggest clubs, Privilege in Ibiza, and dates in the UK.

    DJ CHARLES FEELGOOD

    Moonshine Records / Shorty's //: Baltimore

"Baltimore's Best Club DJ", as recognized by both the Baltimore City Paper

and Baltimore Magazine, Charles Feelgood has long been one of the city's

most beloved DJs. In the early 90's, alongside Scott Henry, he co-founded

Orbit, the city's first recurring club night dedicated to underground dance

music. Orbit eventually evolved into the long running Fever, and helped

secure Baltimore's reputation as one of the country's vibey-est

cities. Charles quickly became one of the most popular DJs in America's

rave scene, and career soared has he began producing his own tracks for his

own Charm City Records and BBS labes, 611 Records, and F-111. His

infectious brand of hard hitting funky house can be heard on his Moonshine

mix CDs, the recent "Djmixed.Com" and last year's "Can You Feel It?".

    EAST COAST BOOGIEMEN

    On 6 turntables

Brique Rouge Records FR / Moonshine / Tequila Sounds //: DC

Funky House music in all forms, ECB has become one of America's favorite Tag Teams.

Spinning music that only implies "Dance", they are continuously touring the US and Canada,

and are scheduled for a full European tour in May 2002. Their production career has jumped

to greater heights with their newest EP "Upside Ya Head" on Brique Rouge France,

as well as their full release of "Marrying Janie" on Moonshine.

Their latest remix for "Shame" by Q-Burns feat Lisa Shaw is out now on Astralwerks.

Not only fine production but the introduction to their new Label "Tequila Sound Recordings" @ www.tequilasound.com.

    DJ SUN

    Ultraworld //: Baltimore

Another Baltimore original, DJ Sun was a founding member of the Ultraworld

production team, and a major player in the early development of the

Baltimore / DC underground. After departing to explore other opportunities

and productions, Sun has returned to Ultraworld as a resident DJ. His

unique blend of tribal and funky house styles has made him a beloved DJ up

    and down the east coast.

    MICHAEL TINDER

    Contrast / Coherence //: DC

A DC local gets the chance to rock the main room at this event. His driving progressive trance sound

got us up and dancing at his most recent appearance at Buzz, which is the best way to get to spin

for an Ultraworld event. While we get tapes and CD's from up and coming DJ's around the country,

nothing sticks in the mind more than turning out a great set that we witness ourselves. And

simply put, Micheal turned it out for a crowd of several thousand. He's a regular at Buzz, and is

rapidly increasing his bookings around the East Coast and beyond. We hope this spot at

Ultraworld will help him in those pursuits.

    December 5, 2001

    Washington, DC

On Thursday, December 27, electronic music fans in the nation’s capital will be presented with an opportunity that has not been offered in DC since 1996. Buzzlife Productions and Nation, which host the weekly dance music phenomenon known as Buzz, (voted the Best Club America in 2000 and 2001 in by Urb magazine) will feature a night to hear Sasha, along with Jimmy Van M. and Lee Burridge. The timing of this event coincides with Sasha being awarded two of the most prestigious accolades in the electronic music industry. As one of the world's most renowned DJs and producers, he has been chosen the #1 DJ in the world by Muzik Magazine and named #2 in DJ Magazines’ “Top 100 DJs in the World.”

Sasha is regarded as a true legend. As noted by the DJLIST.com, “Sasha creates and plays music that gives emotion a chance to speak. It is this universal appeal that he has tapped into that has established his strong fanbase around the globe.” Throughout the late 1990s and into the millennium, Sasha and his long-time partner John Digweed were honored with a weekly residency at New York’s Twilo – home to such amazing talent as Danny Tenaglia and Junior Vasquez. Likewise, both Jimmy Van M. and Lee Burridge are internationally renowned DJs of the highest caliber, well known as trance music trailblazers.

In honor of these great talents, Buzzlife will put on an unbeatable production. Nation features a stunning soundsystem in both rooms – the EAW Avalon soundsystem, for which Nation is a showcase venue. On this evening, sound from the main room will be broadcast to the equally

phenomenal front room sound system, and projections from the main room DJ booth will be visible on screens over both dancefloors, ensuring adequate space and access to the music and visuals throughout the entire venue.

Buzz is offering general admission tickets for $45, which can be obtained through YoshiToshi in Georgetown (202.338.5638) and Ticketmaster (202.432.SEAT) or (800.551.7328). In response to inquiries regarding the cost of the event, Buzz must assure its patrons that December 27 will be a rare opportunity to hear Sasha, Jimmy Van M. and Lee Burridge in an intimate setting in the heart of Washington, DC. Buzz is committed to bringing the best, most renowned talent to the nation’s capital, and to do so at a reasonable, affordable price. With a DJ as prominent as Sasha, this can be a tall order! While other, larger venues may feature Sasha for what appears to be a lower cost, and some smaller venues may have longer existing relationships with Sasha that result in a lower fee and thus, a lower cost to patrons, Buzz is confident that the opportunity to be a part of the limited audience of 2,000 fans who will attend this rare event will be well worth the ticket price, and assures its patrons that tickets for this event are being offered at the lowest feasible cost. We are so pleased to be able to bring Sasha, Jimmy Van M. and Lee Burridge to all of our loyal fans in the greater DC area, to eliminate the need for travel, accommodations and countless expenses that would ordinarily be incurred to see such incredible talent, and to make this night possible for those who could not travel to Ibiza or even Los Angeles for this experience.

For those who are looking to take this night to the ultimate level, Buzz is offering $75 skybox tickets on a limited, first-come, first-served basis. These tickets will guarantee a special side entrance with a speedy entry, access to the entire private skybox area located directly above the dance floor, complete with its own bar and seating, and an enhanced, redecorated and renovated atmosphere in honor of this special event.

Buzzlife and Nation are honored to host this event. For more information, please contact John Tab at talk2buzz@buzzlife.com or Jessica Manna at jessica@buzzlife.com.
