  1. of course it does. Alot of people just didn't come out to support it (if you mean breaks anyway). Anyway, did anyone go? Having never really heard him I have no idea how the set was. It must've been better than what I did since Invaderz got held up in customs and never wound up showing @ Baktun.
  2. I'm not gonna nitpick, but you shoulda come out and supported what we did get in the 1st 6 months of this year (which was alot of artists/DJs) if it bothered you so much. New York never had it this good, but the fan support was weak-nonexistent, in a few cases. That's not the way to build commitment on the part of promoters. And just in case yer wondering who has come this year so far, we've had Meat Katie (next week), 2Sinners, Adam Freeland, Layo & Bushwacka, Rennie Pilgrem, Hyper, Stanton Warriors, Atomic Hooligan, Freq Nasty, General Midi (technically last December), 10Sui, Elite Force, Hybrid, Lee Coombs, and Krafty Kuts. Did I forget anyone? If people don't come out for a list like that, then New York doesn't deserve the headliners coming through, no matter what day of the week it is. Anyway, you can still catch Layo and Bushwacka do a live PA tomorrow. I think I'll probably be Buzzing it for the rest of the year myself, headlinerwise anyway. I'm not slagging people for doing their work and going to school, just saying don't bitch if you're not gonna support when we get what we ask for, and it's so patently obvious we have this year.
  3. Static @ Filter 14 (w14th b/t 9th & 10th ave) Atomic Hooligan & Static Residents Satamile, Sara Walker, Prozac, & Coin-Op. $5 with flyer / $10 without info line 212-946-2191 Ok I'll make this simple, this will be hands down the best breaks act coming to New York, probably to the entire northeast USA, this entire summer! I exaggerate not, you miss this and you miss the best, banginest, most soulfully rockin hip hop based, electro rockin, soulful breakbeats that we will see till this fall, hopefully when Botchit Breaks 5 tour comes. Those of you who know me know I am VERY picky in what I like, and even pickier in what I love. Hooligan is deep, sometimes dark, but very slammin and especially apt for those of you who love breaks, hip hop, or dnb, but something anyone can and should be into. This is not yer run of the mill dark stuff, or breakbeat, it appeals to anyone who has a soul and will simply kick the crap out of almost anything you can hear. If u wanna sample of the sound, check out his breaks or hip hop mixes on his site (http://atomichooligan.com/), where you can him break like a badass and scratch like a mofo, like he will tonite, hell like he always does! Please come if u can. It's just 5 bux with a static flyer from breakbeat, throb, or satellite. And with Sara Walker doin the warmup, u know u cannot go wrong. If you come to 1 event this summer, come to this 1. Hope to see you there. Peace, Karl Nu school to the max. Deep Bass Breaks from London England. Based at the Hooligan Laboratories deep in the Hertfordshire countryside, Matt Welch and Terry Ryan(DJ Trence) have been tampering with breakbeat alchemy since the early nineties. While Matt potters around, tweaking bits studio equipment, Terry digs through stacks of old obscure dusty vinyl, both focused in their quest to find the perfect break. This hunger has been demonstrated in all their releases to date, and the attention they have received thereafter. Fans of their work include names as diverse as John Peel, Annie Nightingale, Arthur Baker, Mary Anne Hobbs and Freddie Fresh to name but a few. Plucking influence from many genres of music and mixing them with their unique atomic ingredients, Matt and Terry manage to create a dance floor friendly, all encompassing cloud of funk, which would intoxicate even the most stringent listener. http://www.atomichooligan.com/ Gosub- Live electro PA. of Isophlux Records. 6. it's only been about 100 or so years in Palestine @ least, not 3 millenia. That's one of the great myths about the conflict. Btw it's funny how Israel seems to be financing it's war of aggression by taxing the poor, some of whom are part of the bedrock of its support. It's also undermining its own economic prospects. http://news.ft.com/ft/gx.cgi/ftc?pagename=View&c=Article&cid=FT3M4JOZD0D&live=true&tagid=ZZZINS5VA0C&subheading=middle%20east%20and%20africa Sharon agrees plan to avoid fiscal crisis By Avi Machlis in Jerusalem Published: April 23 2002 17:44 | Last Updated: April 24 2002 01:00 Ariel Sharon, Israel's prime minister, on Tuesday night agreed an emergency economic programme to prevent a fiscal crisis with costs rising because of Israel's military campaign in the West Bank. The Shk13bn ($2.7bn) austerity plan, which is scheduled to be put to a cabinet vote on Sunday and then to the Knesset [parliament], includes a Shk6bn cut in spending from the Shk248bn budget. But the deficit would widen from a planned 3 per cent of gross domestic product to between 3.5 and 3.9 per cent of GDP. The rest will be financed by a series of new taxes, including an increase in value added tax from 17 to 18 per cent and a rise in excise taxes on cigarettes and petrol and a "war levy" on salaries amounting to 1 per cent of gross wages. In spite of broad Israeli political support for Mr Sharon's military policies, the economic package sparked political controversy - particularly over plans to reduce child allowances that would affect mostly ultra-Orthodox Jews and Arabs. Parties representing the two sectors have pledged to use parliament to fight the package which they say is discriminatory and designed specifically to hit communities that do not serve in the Israeli army. This month's military offensive is estimated to have cost up to Shk300m, and defence spending had already been much higher than planned. Israel's stretched budget has been suffering from a sharp slowdown in tax receipts because of a collapse in economic growth. Furthermore, the budget had been based on gross domestic growth projections of 2 per cent, which economists said was absurd, since most expect growth to be flat this year after a 0.6 per cent contraction in 2001. Silvan Shalom, the finance minister, said the "broad, comprehensive plan" was designed to head off an economic crisis and help revive growth. David Klein, governor of the Bank of Israel, warned on Tuesday that new taxes would undermine attempts to boost growth, and widening the deficit would be counterproductive since it would force the central bank to raise interest rates. "The package must be focused on reducing government expenditures which compared to the world are high by any measure," said Mr Klein. Some analysts have criticised the programme for failing to include any structural reform. Ohad Marani, director general of the finance ministry, on Tuesday said that a capital gains tax might be a component of the final package.
  7. my friend in college had a male cat who liked giving her other male cat head and the 2nd one enjoyed receving it just as much.
  8. it's an issue of the fact that the public in France is so sick of the political class (just like in Argentina and Venezuela, as well as several other European and Latin American nations) that a nazi can come so close to power. In Italy they are in power. And frankly the reason this should matter to Americans is these are 2 of the largest and most economically as well as politically, militarily, and diplomatically powerful states in the EU. It has global ramifications, no matter what people who wanna minimize its importance wanna say. The political elite, and the left in particular, has failed so badly in addressing popular concerns that it's become completely emasculated in the decisive round of this election. I'd say Jospin pulled an Al Gore, but it's even worse. It'd be like if Gore, who should've run on the Clinton record, had lost the Democratic election to a right wing Democrat, and the Republican nominee had been Pat Buchanan or David Duke. That's not a choice for any electorate, it's a sham particularly when the current head of state is a criminal as Chirac is. Some choice the French have between a crook and a Fascist! No wonder they're pissed off!!
  9. The greater concern everyone should have in France and anywhere in the world who care about non white christians there right now is the demogogue who just edged his way in2 the 2nd round of their presidential election. He's far more of a threat to Jews, Moslems, and anyone who's not "French" in his warped fascist view, than the anyone else.
  10. This and Le Pen. Just what the world needs, more nazis.
  11. How dope is this soiree? I'd call it the most underrated party in NY, certainly the most underrated broken beats post-modern multimedia badass art immersion fest around. I really should've written a review on this a couple months ago when I 1st went, seeing as this is the 3rd time I've been and I neglected to get Karsh Kale's guest DJ set last month. Needless to say he does things with a CDJ that I didn't know were possible! Even without any guest last nite (and they've had some tight ones) no place fuses dnb, hip hop, and bhangra seamlessly the way Mutiny does, and as anyone who's been knows, they've been doing it 4 4.5 years now. Rehka, Siraiki and the rest do it like no others and it's all laced together by the masterful deconstructionist videomixing of the mighty squaresquare. The indellible Anju kicked off the beatfest last nite with a rockin dnb/bhangra hybrid and fluid mixing that carried the crowd through the 1st hour of the party. But this was no warmup set, this was the dopest classic jungle, tabla percussion, funky beats, and rockin vox that rocketed us off the launchpad toward the party satellite. Hell yes she can mix and work a crowd and she does it without losing a beat the whole way through. A phat beginning to what was quickly becoming a dope party. The man reckoned by many 2 arguably the city's top DJ in any genre stepped up next, the mighty Navdeep and just blew the roof off of Filter's fabulous sound system. Navdeep's track selection is so diverse as to make u quake, his compact of turntablist scratching and mixing lends a whole extra layer of percussion to his mixes, and his feel for what the crowd needs to hear is unfrigginmatched. Does anyone have the command on the decks he does to flow from the swaying trance-inducing (not like the music genre no, but the REAL DEAL) musical cascades of bhangra, to the down and dirty street sounds of hip hop, to the soaring pounding floor filler thunder of drum and bass. This man can mix and command a dance floor in a way you don't see outside the broken beat communities. And the beauty of it is, he even worked house and some techy 80s hardcorish sounds into his set. Fabuluous! But Zakhm simply blew me away as my personal favorite of the Mutiny crew. He just takes the decks and blitzkregs you for the next hour plus of listening to his slamming junglist musical tyrade. You don't got a soul if you can't feel his beats, his mixes, and the flow of the polyrhythmic structures of many of his tracks. Ok I'm new to bhangra and dnb period but this is the music that got me into jungle period and for good reason b/c any song that can carry you in 2 different musical dimensions simultaneously as true bhangra-dnb melanges like Zakhm constructs and plays do is simply mindbending. U have the possibility to literally move between the sway of bhangra that's so friendly it lulls u into its loving lap or to plunge into the orgiastic frenzy that is jungle! Or better yet, go nuts and do both @ the same time!! There are no rules with music like this and that's mark of a phenomenal DJ. That's who Zakhm is and he alone is reason enough to get you ass to Mutiny next month. Or you really are missing out and it's your loss if you do. All this as I said was glued together by the incredible deconstructionist visual mixing of the mighty square square. Why besides the empowerment inherent in dnb and bhangra for all people regardless of color, religion, race, creed, gender, or sexual orientation is this party about an insurgency on the borders of music? B/c it takes in the visual mixing racial and sexual stereotypes of ethnicity and race and gender and bends the fuck out of them till they're transformed into a tool of constructing new identities that the music makers and artists use to define themselves on their own terms. That's the role the Japanese geisha porn video (weird and disturbing indeed) played. All the old movies clips square square pulls and uses integrate with the music being played to cut up and destroy their original meaning and reassemble them to match, at some points beat for beat with the music, the meaning of self definition these artists engage in. This party is a musical and multimedia revolution. That's why Mutiny rox and why it teaches all who play @ or dance @ it. Shouts: Sneha, Tejal, Supa, Mike, Satya, Navdeep, Zakhm, Rehka, and Anju.
