Here's a new way to get on my guest list.

Save a picture of my logo to your Cell Phone; either by taking a picture of it from the computer or mailing it to your phone. When you get to the club just show the picture of my logo on your cell phone at the door and they'll put you on my list for Reduced or Comp admission. That's it! Save it to your phone and you'll always have a pass to get in on my list.

  4. BELMAR — The lone Republican on the five-member Borough Council said he was misled over the council's reasoning for wanting to go into an executive session at a scheduled hearing on the fate of D'Jais last week.

The nightclub on Ocean and 18th avenues, charged with eight violations of the town's alcoholic beverage control laws, had been offered a deal by the council following the closed session. The bar has until the council's next meeting, Feb. 28, to accept or reject it. The terms of that offer were hammered out by the council following four hours of closed-session discussion last week and won't be made public until the Feb. 28 meeting.

"Where is the open form of government every Belmar resident deserves?" asked Councilman William Merkler, who said the council was wrong for going into private session.

Mayor Kenneth E. Pringle, who was en route to New Jersey from Puerto Rico on Monday, could not be reached for comment. Council President Meredith Brennan also could not be reached for comment Monday. Borough Attorney Karl Kemm had a death in his family and also was not available for comment.

Councilman Matthew J. Doherty, a Democrat, noted that it was Merkler who seconded a motion to go into executive session in the first place. And if Merkler later felt misled, Doherty asked, why did he remain with the council in closed session for four hours without protesting?

"To suggest there was anything mischievous going on is a complete fabrication of the truth," Doherty said. "We believe in open and honest government in Belmar, and that's exactly what we practice."

Merkler said although he seconded the motion to go behind closed doors, he had been led to believe the council was merely seeking a legal opinion from Kemm on whether it could essentially plea bargain a deal with D'Jais in lieu of a formal hearing.

Instead, Merkler said he was alarmed when the council retired to private chambers to immediately discuss an appropriate punishment against D'Jais without a hearing and without reviewing any evidence or testimony in the matter.

"I haven't gotten an answer (about that)," Merkler said. "We should have listened to the testimony of the (law enforcement officers) who were present," referring to two, Belmar Class II special police officers and an officer from the Monmouth County Sheriff's Department who waited for the four hours, before the council reconvened again in public session to adjourn the meeting.

"What was it that the council was afraid to deliberate in public if not that there was no deliberation but a set deal?" said borough resident Sandy Alvarez of 16th Avenue in an e-mail to the Press. "Talk about "back-room deals.' No matter the penalty, the process was flawed and especially offensive when Doherty and Pringle ran on an "open and honest government' campaign motto."

In an e-mail sent to the Asbury Park Press, residents Vic and Joan Corallo of A Street questioned the legal grounds the council employed to go into executive session.

"We attended both of the (Alcoholic Beverage Control) hearings for the Tropical Pub when their license was in jeopardy, and we attended this one for D'Jais," the couple wrote. "The format started the same with an informal discussion between the borough and the lawyers representing their clients. At the Tropical Pub hearings everything was said and done out in the open. At the D'Jais hearing, everything was said behind closed doors."

If the bar were to be convicted of all the charges, it could be forced to close for as long as 160 days. Each penalty carries anywhere between 10- and 30-day license suspensions.

Four violations stem from a June 25 incident in which the bar is accused of two counts of engaging in or allowing a brawl on its premises and two counts of failure to contact the police over the incident. One count each of the same violations was also levied over a Sept. 2 fight there. The remaining two violations served were for general nuisance complaints made against the bar between May 1 and Sept. 30, all according to a police report of the incident.

maybe DJAIS is trying to get the state involved to superceed the local laws...the State level is alot more laid back then Belmar is in these situations. its a shame...even with a win closing of (30 days )DJAIS will spend 100k+ on legal fees for this...

towns just dont want clubs....it sucks..

  5. Bar Gay as Hype "the Nazi" would say.

    whats up prime

hahah...hype is just made cuz the dont treat him like they do at djais...

  6. was talking to my friend earlier about all that hot nightclubs from the past and how they have there reunion parties. like poorbillys at someplace. sexy at the roxy was at wb. theres always a tunnel reunion and you get what im sayin. i really dont think there was ever an official Hunka Bunka Reunion. This shit really needs to take place and happen. Im callin for Bon Solid and Joey Enuff to get together for one night at the starland ballroom for the sickest nightclub reunion ever. get all the promoters from back in the day involved. my idea would be this.

the original Silver Ball Reunion @ Hunka Bunka

DJs Richie Santana, Denny Tsettos, Toro, Johnny FX, Eddie Baez, Anthony Acid, Skribble, Boris and any other dj that was apart of the silver ball promotions.

would probally never be able to happen but if it ever did i think it would be the best reunion for a NJ nightclub or even Tri-state for that matter.

    Z

ITS BEEN TALKED ABOUT MANY TIMES, BUT NOW STARLAND HAS BEEN SOLD TO AEG ARTIST ENTERTAINMENT GROUP.... SO I DOUBT IT VERY HIGHLY THAT IT WILL HAPPEN....
