  3. Scumfrog at Cübik this weekend!

    FRIDAY, OCT. 24, 2003: REVENGE OF THE SCUMFROG [ re-scheduled from 09.19 ]

Dutch DJ, the Scumfrog, is well known for his brilliant remixes of Dirty Vegas’ “Days Gone By†and Kylie Minogue’s “Love at First Sight†-- a Scott Henry favorite in 2002. Scumfrog’s biggest fans include some of the world’s most respected DJ’s: Danny Tenaglia, Roger Sanchez and Pete Tong.

As one of the Liberator “brothersâ€, Aaron, (like label-mates Chris and Julian) regularly plays across the UK, Europe and beyond; however, they are still to be found playing at illegal parties in London most weekends. Aaron's style of music covers everything from underground techy house to hard techno, whilst keeping it funky and trippy with a freestyle attitude.

  10. On Wednesday, March 19th during the Winter Music Conference, Buzzlife Productions is proud to host a charity event at Maze Nightclub. 100% of the door profit will go to the two non-profit organizations that have fought the hardest to preserve and protect this industry, The Electronic Music Defense & Education Fund (EM:DEF) and the Drug Policy Alliance.

Funds benefiting EM:DEF will be spent on behalf of RAVE Act outreach or individual criminal and civil legal defense work. Funds benefiting Drug Policy Alliance will be spent on outreach and direct advocacy against the RAVE Act. They are attempting to raise $180,000 to fund materials and high-level Republican and Democrat lobbying against the Act. Such lobbying will either seek to block or to amend the Act so that it protects business owners, public health and free speech.

We are still ironing out some final details which we will post as soon as we sort it out. Tickets will go on sale next week through Groovetickets. Here is what we have so far:

    Admission: $10 for Buzz members | $15 for non-members

Music styles at this event: drum ‘n’ bass classics, house

DJ DARA & DB || Breakbeat Science | NY ||

Drum ‘n’ bass as a separate musical style on its own, really defined itself by 1994. Almost 10 years later, this rough, rapid-fire, percussion-based sound has carved a deep niche on global EDM culture, particularly in America and especially in the Northeast corridor from DC to Boston. Its energy is underscored with musical tension that fits today’s world with its sluggish economic climate, hi-speed technological advances and the ever-present threat of terrorism and war. It’s no longer 1999, and Internet millionaires are fewer and farther between. More than ever, the brutally realistic sound, originally evolving from the tough neighborhoods of London, makes more and more sense to all of us everywhere. So tonight from 1994 to the present, you’ll hear the progression, the evolution, the blending of different styles that contorted into what we know as drum ‘n’ bass today.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 18, 2003: THE RED PARTY — REVISITED....

The amazing breakbeat trio put their heads together in the town of Swansea loacted in England, and have since produced some of the best breakbeat the scene has ever seen. They are Mike Truman, Chris Healings and Lee Mullins-- none other than Hybrid!

It all started when the three met in a local club and started sharing their opinions of a track they all knew of and thoroughly enjoyed called, Another Brick in the wall by non-other than the genious of a producer Pink Floyd. And they've been doing DJ sets and mixing their own music ever since, the rest as they say is History.

Buzzlife Productions has been producing the best events in the DC Metro area for the last decade. Our focus on customer satisfaction, low prices and an all-encompassing experience has made us a hometown favorite.

In 2002, we began a national campaign to educate the US about electronic dance music in an effort to promote and protect what we love. For 2003, our goal is to deliver this experience. Could there be a better place to start then Chicago? Buzzlife Productions owes so very much to this town. It has been a source of amazing music and inspiration beyond words. In a style similar to Dylan, Total Science, Digital & Spirit, Baron has successfully updated the original UK hardcore breakbeat sound, matching today’s more sophisticated drum ‘n’ bass tastes with raw, old school junglism. Baron’s tribal, percussive style has wide-appeal with many segments of the drum ‘n’ bass community. “See Me Burning,†is his track on the “Sektor 1 EP†(the release with Total Science’s “Squashâ€). He takes credit for L-Plates, volumes 4 and 9, as well as for the recent “Sour/8 Bit†release on Juju’s Phuturo label. The last Saturday of each month, we’ll be getting SLEAZY in the BASS-ment. You might have heard about this new musical twist in the global EDM scene — ELECTROCLASH. Takes early ‘90s techno, merges it with ‘80s electro and synth-pop and adds elements of breaks, house, industrial, punk and occasionally drum ‘n’ bass. Check out Ministry of Sound’s “Tech Pop†compilation, Moonshine Music’s “Electro Nouveau†or the double CD “This is NOT the ‘80s,†for a preview of this sound. www.sleazedc.com
