  1. There are like 7-8 clubs in Pleasure Island, definitely NOT 15. The "hottest" club there is Mannequins, which is indeed 21+ on all nights, no exceptions. The other "hot" club is B.E.T. Soundstage, which might be 21+ as well (can't remember). That leaves you with a club that plays Top 40 music, another that mainly plays Retro 70s and 80s, another frequented mainly by 16 year olds and features a band doing cover songs of rock anthems, a comedy club, and ummm some Blues or Country music club. Copish so far? K,thx Over at Citywalk you have The Groove, which is 21+ according to Universal's own website: http://www.universalorlando.com/cw_entertainment.html What type of music are you and your friends looking to find? The clubs in Orlando mainly play Mainstream Hip Hop or Breakbeats.
  2. I listen to Trance, and have never owned a pair of glowsticks. Then again I've never been raped by monkeys, hence why I don't listen much to Sedatedcoast House
  3. Hey Philippo, stick to your snoozecoast House BTW, Blank & Jones also produce a lot of Ambient music, and I've gotta say it's some of the best in the genre.
  4. Close: Piet Blank & Jaspa Jones
  5. Ummm, if you follow the arrows, you can see that the female stopped in just about every store in the mall before hitting The Gap. Hence it stands to reason our little lady friend did not spend most of that money at Gap
  6. LMFAO! That was hysterical. He man was especially funny, LOL "Duuuuude!"
  7. Check out the free mixes from Armin, Markus, M.I.K.E., Gabriel & Dresden, Perry O'neal, etc. http://supra.armadamusic.nl/mixes/
  8. Oh man, there is nothing like a good Scot Project mix to get you going The energy level is outta hand, and as always Frank (Scot Project) knows just the right tunes to mix in.
  9. Yup, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers rock.
  10. Exactly! It's a simple game of supply and demand. limiting how much Tiesto makes a night is like limiting how much Madonna or Coldplay can make a night in their concerts. Koky, I do understand what you're saying - I guess when DJs spend too much of their time on planes going to clubs halfway around the world from each other, the quality of the set can go down (the DJs are exhausted). Still, everbody just wants to book them day after day, offering them insane amounts of money, and in the process some DJs don't have as much time to hear new music, and to practice how to mix in their newer records flawlessly into their sets. Sasha somewhat solved that problem by taking on residencies (allowing him to stay in one place), and using Ableton (so as to avoid tranwrecks). Still, Miami would have been worse if Tiesto and PVD weren't booked at all, as promoters might not then also be enticed take a chance on some of the local Miami Trance talent. And it's comforting to know that whether Metropolis succeeds with high turnouts for the great Trance DJs it's booked, that PVD and Tiesto will still be coming back to Miami in the coming years. PS don't forget that Space has now also booked Ferry Corsten a few times. His sets always rock!
  11. Ouch! Whats wrong with PVD and Tiesto? Both are top DJs, with top productions, and well thought out sets. They both know how to deliver. Remember, Paul Van Dyk was one of the first DJs to ever play Trance in South Florida - and that was back in like 93. Also, few towns can lay claim to have had Tiesto as a quarterly resident, and Miami was lucky enough to have that. Part of Tiesto's success is due to his successful sets at Space, which were attended by club kids from all over the US, and South America. And who are the rest of the "cheese crew"? The only other guys to really play Trance in Miami in the past year were your boy Eric, and Edgar V. Okay and george Acosta too, who by the way had his latest record played a lot by DJs, like Judge Jules. It's truly great that Metropolis is stepping up and bringing a lot of other quality Trance acts/DJs, but there's no need to bash the few that have up till now helped keep Trance on the radar in Miami.
  12. Philippo does have a point. Will the city get rid of the bums in the area? The city has to clean up the area, especially if they want to redevelop Overtown. There's a lot of underground drug activity going on over there. And since only part of Overtown will be redeveloped who's to say the poor folks living in the ghetto part won't try and commit robbery or murder over on the wealthy side? After all, being jobless or homeless tends to bring out the worst in people... From what I see in the plans, Downtown Miami's ambitious designs are based on places such as Ybor City in Tampa, Times Square in New York, The Riverwalk area in San Antonio, the classic city centers you see in South America or Europe, and of course Miami's own South Beach and Coconut Grove. The question is, can they pull it all off, and how long will it take for the area to truly transform into the vibrant Downtown shown in the different sketches.
  13. Would be nice if this also meant the end of Communism in Cuba. I remember in the mid to late 80s how the media was excited with rock acts playing in the USSR, and a few years later the Soviet Union collapsed. Anyways, are you sure Little Havana is the best location for Audioslave?
  14. Where at? Hialeah?
  15. http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/04/27/teen.slain.ap/index.html Sadly the media probably won't give this case even a tenth of the time it gave the Schiavo case.

    TRANCE or HOUSE

You mean like one of Sasha & Digweed's "Northern Exposure" mixes? Or DJ Keoki's Trance-based "All Mixed Up" CD which came out in 1995? Still sounds pretty fresh to me.

LOL Funk, where did you find that set? I've been looking for it for years
  18. LOL@big steaks. That's a great place to work. First thing I would do is make sure I go pee every hour...in every executive's office. Then I'll go and bring takeout and eat in front of the very people who typed up this memo, letting them know how delicious the food is. Since I won't be getting a raise, I'll make sure to work real slow, and to "bowrrow" some of the computers from some of the executives. Maybe I'd show up for work naked, as that seems to be the only way to get a rasie in this joint. Oh, and hey if they think about suing my ass I'd have my attorney ready to hand the judge that nice little memo. I'm sure once he glances over it I'll be the one who ends with a big compensation

    TRANCE or HOUSE

Koky, I kind of see what djkable was saying. When Trance was new and fresh it was also more innocent and experimental. There's a certain linear pattern that kind of made it predictable with most tracks over the years. I happen to love newer Trance too, but I've got so much respect for the older pioneering sounds of guys like Juno Reactor, or the older BT titles. I think even Ferry Corsten admitted a couple of years back that he yearns for the days when Trance and Progressive were newer, dirtier, less polished. Koky, I think me, you, and many others here have been able to stay Trance fans b/c we listen to different types of Trance, and we're open to listening to other stuff as well. When someone limits himself to listening to nothing but Hard Trance, or only Psychedelic, Tech Trance, Triba Housel, or Disco House, then it can get old after a while. Some of you guys diss Bling for equally liking House and Trance, but I applaud him for keeping an open mind and realizing that good music is good music regardless of genre. Also big ups to Noel Sanger on his post for not being afraid to critique the sound he's most associated with, Progressive, and for telling others to keep an open mind with all types of Dance music.

    TRANCE or HOUSE

They used to be one and the same, but in Progressive House tracks the music tends to be more spaced out, and the track takens longer to reach its peak, as does the average Progressive track. Progressive music/sets also tend to be slower, and oftentimes include a good dose of Progressive Breaks, Tech House, some Tribal and Electro House, and even some Funky House. Trance sets tend to start off with some of the more peaktime Progressive and they go faster from there. You might hear a bit of the more harder Techno, or Schranz, a Breakbeat track or two, but mainly the music tends to be a LOT more melodic, more emotional, and full of epic breakdowns.

That vibe remains strongest at Progressive House parties, although it's great when you see it at Trance and other genre events.

    TRANCE or HOUSE

South Beach was at its peak when Trance first hit it big in Miami. The tourists from Europe obviously embraced it, but by that point in time so did the South American tourists, and the locals were fed up with Circuit anthem House and Breakbeats. The downfall for Trance in South Florida happened when Trance got too big for its own good perhaps. Power 96 started playing it so all of a sudden it didn't seem to sound so underground. The clubs in Ft. Lauderdale and Kendall were all of a sudden playing it, so it wasn't just a South Beach thing anymore. Many of Trance's leading DJs were abandoning it. Suddenly Crobar became the hotspot for Progressive House by the likes of Sasha & Digweed. What killed it most of all was Shadow Loung closing, and Space firing Edgar V. (it was in part his fault for something he did at a party abroad, but they shouldn't have fired him). Once Shadow lounge closed down and Space was without Edgar as a resident the Trance scene just wasn't as strong in Miami. Nowadays it's extremely rare to see most of the Trance headliners in Miami, especially the relatively newer talents. They're much more likely to get booked in L.A., Washington, San Francisco, or New York. Back in the day Shadow Lounge and Space had no problem bringing in more then just PVD and Tiesto to Miami. Anyways, the clubs in South Beach felt Trance was no longer underground enough for them, but too many of them started introducing House nights. Ironically a year after that SoBe became anything but underground as most clubs moved on to extremely commercial Hip Hop nights. Had they kep some of their Trance nights, and had more nights that fused House, Progressive, Tribal, Breaks, and Trance, things might look different today.
  23. You are absolutely right. Do you remember the US had another popular Music Video Channel called The Box? It was based out of Miami no less, and gained a lot of popularity all throughout the 90s. Finally MTV got so scared they just bought them out! Do you know what MTV stands for? Music Television. Simple concept which made MTV great in the 80s and 90s. The Box launched with a similar approach, but took the idea of "Dial MTV" (the daily countdown show) to the extremes. The Box eliminated the spotlight on the VJs, was more open musically to Hip Hop and Dance, and gave its viewers the chance to request their favorite tunes 24/7. What's MTV done? They moved the concept of playing music videos to MTV 2, which a lot of basic cable systems don't include, and decided to focus on the biggest bunch of cultural crap on TV, outside of maybe the Cooking Channel. MTV Europe is great, highly music-based most of the time, and has split services for countries like Italy, France, Germany, and Russia. Most European countries are also lucky to be able to receive several other great video channels, like Hit Channel in Italy, The Music Factory in Holland and Belgium, MCM in France, The Box in the UK, and of course Viva in Germany. You can actually watch channels like Viva live on the net: http://www.viva.tv/ Here's a direct link to the live webcast of Viva out of Germany with Real Player (just copy and paste into your Real Player): (350 K webcast) rtsp://rd01.t-bn.de/live/viva/viva1tv_live_adsl.rm America needs another channel like The Box, or perhaps MuchMusic out of Canada. MuchMusic had a lot of non music shows even before MTV, but they're still a music-based channel. PS Spanish-speaking America has a good MTV as well, as does Brazil (you haven't heard it all, until you hear a Portugese remake of "Love Bites" by Def Leppard, LOL yes it exists). Asia and Australia both have their own MTVs, as well as competing channels like Channel V.
