  5. Im not promoting im just saying that anyone that uses CD Players or Serato is not a Real DJ.

    Thats It.

    Mr freeze

    Rock Steady Crew

It's amazing you even know how to turn your computer on!

I use both Vinyl and Final Scratch in my DJ Arsenal. I don't use CDs at all. ANYONE who LUGGS around 10 crates of SCRATCHED up Rap records to a DJ booth that holds 2 people is just a MORON! I carry over 4000 records with me EVERY NIGHT! It doesn't make you LAZY! It challenges you EVEN MORE because instead of doing the SAME bullshit mixes that many of the Purists like yourself, you now have your complete collection with you at all times and FORCED to do something DIFFERENT every night you play!

Sure you can pre-program your set...but that's what A LOT OF THE SO CALLED PURISTS do when they bring their 10 crates of records. It's nothing new! I've seen HIP HOP DJs do the SAME SET with their same records night after night and guess what...THEY WERENT SERATO OR FINALS SCRATCH DJS! However, how many times have you wished to have brought something old skool but just didn't have the room or simply forgot? Now you never have that problem!

The technology is here and it's not going away. Digital DJing is making DJ's MORE creative and less LAZIER in my opinion. Just because I don't have to carry 10 crates of records and save my back from the aches and pains doesn't mean I'm lazy. I still have to WORK the crowd, I have to Read them, come up with new and creative ways in my mind.

You are entitled to your opinion as weak at is.

  6. Lol ...oh God ... Ill Have To Call You About That One ... :)

Pony Has Been Good ... Nice Crowd

All You Go Check Out Prime On Saturdays @ Green Room - Seaside, Nj ... Sick Party..!!

Rumor Is When Prime Starts Playin The Village People, He Dreeses Up Like An Indian And Buys Drinks For Everyone ...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No....but he starts letting girls up on stage while fighting with the bouncers! Prime is the REGULATOR! :)

  7. I support John Kerry most of all on Military Issues because OMG HE ACTUALLY SERVED IN A WAR AND SAVED LIVES! While that overly-pampered frat boy with a ten gallon hat sends my cousins to fight and die when he never has done more than play cards in a officers commissary.

OMG he was also a war criminal meeting with the North Vietnamese in Paris. What was he also doing in Cambodia? What was he doing renouncing his country? While we are with his war record, why won't he release his military medical records? Is it because it will show that he wasn't really honorably discharged? Why is it that his record was changed during the Carter administration? Sorry, but Kerry is no war hero. Oh yea, it would help that over the 20 years in the senate he could at least show up to more than 76% of the intelligence commitee meetings. This is the same Kerry who has voted NOT to give the death penalty to Terrorists, the same Kerry who was against the FIRST GULF WAR in Iraq when the U.S. had Unilateral approval, the same Kerry who has voted time and time again to NOT FUND our troops, and on and on and on. Yet he's supposed to know how to be commander in chief? In the immortal words of Democrat Zell Miller, "How are we supposed to defend this country under Kerry, With SPITBALLS?!"

Ojeda is the friday resident now as I am there every Saturday. Friday is a little older EARLY because of happy hour. They have the best happy hour on the island. However, as the night goes on the younger folks come out and by midnight, Ojeda is throwing down some serious beats. As I always say, Ojeda is a "Dj's DJ". I love to listen to him play.

I've been there every saturday since January and this saturday we have the KTU Live Broadcast and a special SURPRISE performance on stage. Come thru to Mirage, it's always a good time no matter what night you go to.

  12. Wednesdays they rule L.I. hands down. Riz, Sizzahands, Moody and Mayday hold it down. They've been holding that party strong for a while now. Friday night is real good early. They have the best happy hour in L.I. Ojeda is the resident on friday nights and does a kick ass job-one of my favorite djs. However, Saturdays is their stronger night and stays open real late - we go past 4am sometimes. I'm there every saturday and it's a great room to spin at. This saturday is my CD Release Party for Dance Mix 5 and we have a special performance from MOTORCYCLE "As the Rush Comes" So come by and check it out!

  13. For the record...

I NEVER spun at SANDBAR last summer. I hung out plenty of times with KTU and Roveen at sandbar but never spun. Roveen is a mad man! Love him like a brotha. I even hung out at Sandbar when Andrew Mendez tore shit up. I was there plenty of times when Justin Higgins threw down so much props to you sir!

Last summer, I spun all over. I spun at DJais and XS mainly last summer and my once a month residency in Houston, Texas. I even got to spin with Carl Cox and Danny Howells in LAS VEGAS JULY 4TH at the House of Blues. So while I reside in NJ, I don't consider myself just a Jersey DJ. Right now my residency is in Long Island at Mirage where we are doing great numbers. I get to play a wide selection of tracks and because we stay open til 430-5am. I get to play some nice dark underground beats after 230am. I invite any jersey person to come by Mirage in Westbury. Even Tenaglia played there 2 weeks ago.

I play to my crowd whatever it may be. I even got to spin at Cheetah a couple of times last fall so I know how to throw down underground style. Its just that these clubs hire me to spin for the KTU commercial crowd. I don't mind because that is what I do for KTU. However, I do know my music and keep in touch with what's happenin on the streets. I thank the promoters, club patrons, and listeners for all the support.

While there are MORE women with disposable income today.... they are still the exception rather than the rule...

Sorry to assume, but I've been around the block too and have lived in Los Angeles (my family all lives there). I've been in radio since 1987 working at some of the biggest Top 40/Rhythmic stations in the country and have worked for Capitol Records, MCA Records, Tommyboy, etc. I have been in the game a long time as well my friend. I'm sorry to have offended you but the debate of whether males spend more than females can be at times very subjective. In the end, KTU and many Top 40 radio stations covet the 18-34 Female demographic because that is what THEIR advertisers want.

It's true most people only listen to the radio brefily during the day... withj one major exception, Morning drive..... that's where 70% of radio advertising dollars go and we both know that K-rock is getting the lion's share of those dollars....8-10pm media buyers concentrate on prime time television... It's also true that women do most of the day to day shopping in a household, however women don't generally purchase big ticket items as frequently as men do (Cars, consumer electronics...etc.). I'm sure the station makes money or there would have been a format change by now... I'm not knocking you guys and I'll admit I sometimes listen on a friday or saturday night and I've heard some decent shows... but I also think back to the original KTU (92.3) way back when and remember that they played a much better mix of underground and commercial music. It would be nice to see you guys actually break some new music instead of waitng for receords to "test well"....

As far as your research on male and female buying and spending, you should really take an economics and marketing class because we are in the 21st Century where there are MORE women with expendable income. This isn't the 50s and 60s where the women just bought the groceries and clothes.

Back in the old KTU days there was much more of a wide acceptance of dance music period. Also there was no corporate conglomerates dictating what can and can't be played on the radio. Back then, programmers went on gut instincts and not necessarily rely on research. But hey, even MTV does it too now. Unfortunately that is the name of the game today. However, KTU does take chances on records much more quickly than many stations around the country. While it may not be as progressive as you would like, it's better than nothing. Like I said, try living in Los Angeles where you are forced to hearing Widelife and Ingrid "Promise me" 50 times a week on KIIS. They have NO dance station at all.

Thats not exactly the target audience that makes a radio station profitable with Advertisers. Males typicly spend more money since they earn more. You can target any audience by playing the right music. KTU simply attracts that demographic because of the music that's played.

First off, if Males are the target audience that advertisers want, then KROCK should be the #1 station in New York since it is a male driven station. Guess what? It's not. Secondly, you can not make an inference that males spend more than women because they earn more because the research shows that women are the ones that do most of the purchasing in a household. This is the reason why Radio, TV, and Movies always goes after the coveted 18-34 female target demo. Thirdly, KTU bills very well and we are a very profitable station. If we weren't profitable, KTU would have been long gone especially with the way Clearchannel is.

As far as KTU, as Lil Cee stated the target audience is 25-54 females which we are #1. In the last rating book we even beat our sister stations Z100 and Power 105 in our demos and with 18-34 females.

As far as why you hear the same songs over and over. The AVERAGE listener only listens to radio 45 minutes a day - usually to and from work. So ALL RADIO STATIONS wants to make sure you are hearing the biggest testing records during that time frame that listeners are actually listening. For your information, stations like Hot97, Z100, Power 105, actually play their biggest testing records like 80 times a week. KTU's highest rotation records are in the 40s-50s max and even then, they are dayparted/nightparted - meaning only some songs get played during the day or night.

As far as the mixshows, the KTU HOUSEPARTY at 9pm is #1 in our demos. Since my show only airs 30-35 minutes a day, I have to make sure to play our biggest testing records along with some current and new records. I also select ONE RECORD from back in the day which we call the REWIND track of the day (During the summer it was called the OFFICIAL GUIDO FIST PUMP SONG). The REWIND track is usually something from 1996-2000. This feature does great for the station. Every night I try to play at least one NEW unfamiliar track during the show. I'veNow while it may not be new to the cool hip people that download tracks on a daily basis, to the average listener it still sounds new.

The friday and saturday night mixshows on KTU is the most diverse and highly rated mixshow in the nation. We have so many talented DJs that appear every weekend both locally, nationally, and Internationally.

For those that are more progressive than most, you do have other options and a choice. However, I am very proud to be a part of KTU. Be lucky that NEW YORK has a station like KTU because you can be in a city like Los Angeles that has NO DANCE STATION WHATSOEVER.

    Riddler

Be sure to vote for KTU for best radio station and Best Radio DJ
