  1. Hey everyone, I thought I'd reach out to the good people of the Miami board and see if anyone might have the right contacts to help the non-profit organization I work for here in Miami.

I work for Best Buddies International, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and integrated employment. As you may be able to imagine, people with intellectual disabilities often have a difficult time connecting to their peers and creating lasting friendships. So, Best Buddies pairs a person with intellectual disabilities to a person in their community with similar interests and of the same age in the hopes of establishing friendships that might not otherwise exist. Our Buddy Pairs enjoy doing all types of activities together such as going to sport events, the movies, the zoo, museums…etc. In Broward and Dade County alone we have over 1,000 participates! It truly is an awesome organization that brings tons happiness to a lot of people.

How I’m hoping the people of the Miami board might be able to help out is by putting us in contact with people in the local community that might be able to give free or discounted stuff (movie passes, zoo passes, sports tickets, museum passes…anything) that we could give out to our local participants so that they can enjoy cheap and fun activities together. We are also having a local high school training day in two weeks where ~100 of our Best Buddies high school participants will be gathering to learn how to make their Best Buddies chapters better and we are always looking to give out all sorts of free stuff to our student participates! So then, if anyone has some contacts of local people or companies that you think would like to help out a really cool local non-profit please e-mail me at JeremiahAngel@bestbuddies.org with their info.

    Big thanks!

  3. Older News story (still funny):

Disgruntled Asian Tattoo Artist Inks His Revenge

Reprinted from Sept. 2002 -- Pitt junior Brandon Smith wanted a tattoo that proclaimed his manliness, so he decided to get the Chinese characters for “strength†and “honor†on his chest. After 20 minutes under the needle of local tattoo artist Andy Sakai, he emerged with the symbol for “small penis†embedded in his flesh.

“I had it for months before I knew what it really meant,†Smith said.

“Then I went jogging through the Carnegie Mellon campus and a group of Asian kids started laughing and calling me ‘Shorty.’ That’s when I knew something was up.â€

Sakai, an award-winning tattoo artist, was tired of seeing sacred Japanese words, symbols of his heritage, inked on random white people. So he used their blissful ignorance to make an everlasting statement. Any time acustomer came to Sakai’s home studio wanting Japanese tattooed on them, he modified it into a profane word or phrase.

“All these preppy sorority girls and suburban rich boys think they’re so cool ‘cause they have a tattoo with Japanese characters. But it doesn’t mean shit to them!†Sakai said. “The dumbasses don’t even realize that I’ve written ‘slut’ or ‘pervert’ on their skin!â€

    * Symbols on the back of a Pitt Student inked by Sakai (inset) were originally meant to say, "princess." They really say, "prostitute."

In the last month, seven people unknowingly received explicit tattoos from the disgruntled artist. Kerri Baker, a Carlow College freshman, paid $50 to have the symbols for “beautiful goddess†etched above her belly button, but when she went into Szechuan Express Asian Noodle Shop sporting a bare midriff, the giggling employees explained to her that the tattoo really said, “Insert General Tso’s Chicken Here!â€

    “I don’t even like General Tso’s!†Baker sobbed. “I’m a vegetarian!â€

Sakai doesn’t feel guilty about using hapless college students as canvases for his graffiti.

“I think I’m helping my fellow man by labeling all the stupid people in the world,†he explained. “It’s not a crime, it’s a public service.

  5. Blue Velvet is a damn good movie. David Lynch is the man! My favorite movie of all time is Mulholland Drive. If you haven't seen Mulholland Drive go rent it!

  6. I use to go to school at ASU in Boone, NC and would travel down to Charlotte every other weekend at least to party. The best place in Charlotte would be Tonic. In my opinion they have the best resident in Charlotte (Greg Pappanastos). Check out Friday's at Tonic (Lush). Also check out Liquid Lounge sometimes. And finally go to www.spins.us/forum thats the best message board for clubbers in NC. A lot of the people there live in Charlotte. I hope that helps. Later then
