  1. MIAMI -- Miami Mayor Manny Diaz is looking to put a stop to an upcoming music festival because he believes there is too much illegal drug use. Diaz (pictured) is petitioning members of Bayfront Trust not to issue a license to the Ultra Music Festival, which is scheduled to take place at Bayfront Park on March 22. Diaz says while the music and dance party attracts 30,000 people, about half of them take illegal drugs like Ecstasy at the festival. He also says a large portion of the crowd is under 18. Talk about party pooper huh?????
  2. Been visiting many of the clubs here in Miami for many years now and I still notice that impressive Progressive House is pretty hard to find considering that most clubs are providing more of the deep side and the loungey side of house. Although many of the clubs advertise Progressive in the "side room" or the "back room" or the "main room", I have yet to hear true Progressive House in these places. It usually takes special events or conferences such as WMC to book such sounds. WHY? Is Miami confused when it comes to defining PROGRESSIVE? Is PROGRESSIVE HOUSE old news? Just thought I would comment to get some respectable feed back from some of the respectable members here who take such post in a positive way and actually have interesting and meaningful feedback. Peace, Obby
  3. SOTU Underground Update - Momu - The Dive Mark Musselman is well known in San Francisco for his intense breakbeat sets. J. Moyer aka Jondi also hit the decks in his early years and is now known as ½ of the duo known as Jondi and Spesh. Mark and Jondi together form the breakbeat production team known as Momu and are breaking all expectations with their music. Their first single released on Loöq Records way back in 2001 has just recently caught the attention of the Boxed camp and was included in the critically acclaimed Global Underground Afterhours compilation. Further signs of the pair’s future success include two singles already signed to Bedrock and “The Dive†picked by Nick Warren’s upcoming Global Underground. “The Dive†not only caught Nick Warren’s attention, as it was chosen it for his Global Underground compilation, but has garnered top placement in charts around the world. Momu take on breaks in a different way than the majority of breakbeat out there. It is dark and strong, yet it’s driven with melody. Not simple melody, but rather soundtrack quality melody. “The Dive†takes a somber tone but with an edge of hope and optimism. The breaks are tight and excellently produced to surround the lush environment and angelic vocals that are sprinkled into the mix. Over all it is a sincere production by the Momu team and will be widely accepted on the dance floors. Spesh was around for every iteration in the recording of “The Dive†and given Jondi’s obvious intimacy with the track, the result is a remix that carry’s the untainted essence of the original track on the backs of true J&S production. Underlying is a deep minimal rhythmic engine that is signature to Jondi and Spesh and sure to appeal to a wide audience. Mark is busy on the San Francisco DJ circuit making quite a name for himself. If you catch one of his sets, you are sure to hear some unreleased Momu tracks such as “Descolada†perhaps. Jondi continues to work in the studio with Spesh and the future is said to hold more productions from Jondi, Spesh & Jerry Bonham (JSJ). While Momu releases are beginning to stray from Looq to labels such as Spundee and Bedrock, Looq continue to their true mission of promoting up and comers from the San Francisco area. Every now again one of Looq’s breakthrough artists such as Jondi & Spesh or Momu return to their label of origin and run artists tracks through their “remix machines.†Sample Momu's "The Dive" here http://www.groovetech.com/PhoenixData/SilverStream/Pages/srvltRecMed?SKU=34941

  6. Very nice Where will this be taking place? I am not to familiar with Spi Club.
  7. Can't leave out my best wishes. Edgar, I wish you a great B-Day and hope that every year gets better for you. I have a birthday vinyl for you but I need to make sure that you do not have it already so let me know. Momu has been an artist who I have been following from the get go. His fusion of Melodic Trance and Breaks has been getting my attention for a while. The track is called "The Dive" and if you are not familiar with this track then all I can say is, "Prepare Yourself" It would be my pleasure to introduce it to you. Peace Big Dog, Obby
  8. Just a thought It could also be his parents who inspired him to succeed in what he loves in life. After all, it was my friends way back when who always made fun of my "music with no words" who inspired me. Look at them now. They have evolved along with many others.
  9. Lamb - Goreki A golden ambient electronic backing props up a wonderful female vocal that sounds like Sinead O'Connor crossed with Bjork. At heart a simple love song, the layers of Eastern rhythms and warm pulsing tones eventually give way to a dancier beat, never losing its mysterious and other-worldly origins. One to play inside floatation tanks, "Gorecki" is a cheap return ticket to the surface of the moon. An instumental version of "Gorecki" is followed by "Ear Parcel", an unsettlingly weird ambient sound journey similar to those that The Orb used to take us upon, except Lamb travel at supersonic speeds for most of the time. "Lullaby" closes the CD and features more of those distinctive vocals over some scary string and (double) bass discord: this lullaby will give you nightmares. An excellent release and here for you to sample. Sample this one sided white label here http://www.groovetech.com/PhoenixData/SilverStream/Pages/srvltRecMed?SKU=35760
  10. I had a good time myself. The booth is more like a loft with couches which is perfect for the DJ to hang with his closest friends. PS: Thank God For Incese
  11. Holden And Thompson - Nothing James Holden first burst onto the music scene with the now infamous 'Horizons'. Since then he has produced several other singles, including 'One 4 You' and 'Solstice' but here on 'Nothing', he for the first time introduces a vocalist within the track, in this case singer Julie Thompson, and the results have already spoken for themselves over the past few months. Here's why.. A low sub bass oozes through on the intro of the 'Original Mix', as subtle synths slowly move tbrough the beats, moving forward to the next stage. As the familar Holden bassline kicks in, the emotive vocals of Julie Thompson rain down upon the synth arrangement, the resulting effect giving the track a large sense of depth, the xylophone effects adding yet another twist to this already enchanting track. For the grand finale everything fades down slowly to just the underlying bass before kicking back in with glorious harmony. As equally magical as it sounded a year ago. However, James obviously felt there was several directions he could take the track in, and the '93 Returning Mix' offers a different twist altogether, running the vocals through a series of filtered and then weaving them through a driving beat arrangement that loops and flips the vocals, causing it to distort and fluctuate within the groove, just building momentum until your brain feels like it's going to fry with the overpowering sounds drifting through the speakers. A superb remix where Mr Holden proves he has more than one trick up his sleeve. Since leaving Silver Planet, James has kept a low profile until now, but hopefully we will hear more new material from him soon. In the mean time keep your eyes peeled for the Silver City remix 12" of 'Nothing' which is also available and offers a totally different perspective to this addictive track. See for yourself (sample all sides of this double pack here) http://www.groovetech.com/PhoenixData/SilverStream/Pages/srvltRecMed?SKU=35618
  12. Not usually one to say who is better than who but I will say that my ears leans more to Cedric's side due to the darker sounding riffs that he tends to play in his sets.
  13. Great Question Hard to answer unless you really know him personally though. His style varies from Hard Trance to Progressive Trance to Breaks to Progressive House. So many candidates for each style of genre. For the old school hard side of him I would say "Taucher, PVD or Humate" For the progressive side of him I would say "Sasha or Chris Fortier" Just in case he went super old school on you I would have to say one of the main groups that brought electronic music to the mass. "Kraftworks" Great question though. Would be interesting to know who inspired him.
  14. Sounds Like You Favor The Breaks. Got To Have My Breaks
  15. LOL You have a way with words.
  16. phrankadelic, Someone has seen the light Because they got you spinning. I'm there
  17. Great Line Up and Info. Very Impressed.
  18. Thought I would go a little deeper than most and mention my "CURRENT" favorite DJ's/Producers. 1- Momu 2- DJ Who (still rockin) 3- Madoka 4- Bill Hamel 5- Lemon 8 6- Meat Katie 7- Medway 8- Yunus Guvenen (for the dark in me) 9- Fade (for the old school in me) 10- All the newbbies, white labels, unknown artist who land in my collection and impress the *#@! out of me.
  19. I think I know this guy called Jimmy T Has some serious wax/vinyl's in his crates.
  20. Vinyl's For Sale It's about that time of the years where I need to make some space for the new vinyl's that I have been landing. For those of you who are new to spinning wax, this would be a great opportunity for you to land some old school quality vinyl's for a super cheap PR. For those of you who have been into the scene for a while like me then this would also be a good opportunity for you to land some old and hard to find tracks. I currently have 5 full crates of vinyl's consisting back from 1995 till 2000. These are obviously vinyl's that I have heard/played so much that they no longer call my attention. The genres vary from Old School Break Beats to Old School Progressive House. Being that I would rather sell the crates in whole I will be willing to get rid of full crates at $1:00 a vinyl. If you plan on picking out certain tracks then I will be getting rid of the singled out ones at $2.00 a vinyl. I know that I have a bunch of stuff that will interest most progressive house and break freaks so feel free to ask. Peace, djobby@bellsouth.net
  21. Camilla and Manny V. Thank you both for the responce. You guys are great people. Camilla, you are the best. Make sure you take a little time off your crazy night to hang a little with me. Much love, Obby
  22. Well, my birthday is tomorrow and I would not mind celebrating it on Friday with Edgar's sounds. Who do I talk to if I have a party of about 10 - 15 close friends.
  23. Last time I was there I was told that "Trance" will not go well at Oxygen. Does this mean that the Oxygen Crew is finally seeing the light? I hope so.
  24. You guys have to check out the break beat remix of Green Velvets - La La Land Landed it today from the UK and it rocks.
  25. Thanks for the info guys. Keep them coming. It would be awesome to find out the line up for that weekend but I think i am going to have to call the vinyl shops for that. PS: RAIN is actually in the hotel that I am staying at.
