  1. Since a message board helped out on where to go in New Orleans, figured it only appropriate to inform everyone else this review of the city's nightlife. Understanding, my perspective is coming from someone who has experience nightlife in Europe, LA, NY, and Vegas, at least. Here's the review. Overall, New Orleans is a very average city when it comes to nightlife when you compare it to cities like NY, LA, Vegas, and offerings in Florida. It simply doesn't have a lot to offer in comparison to what other cities offers and what it does offer is not at all unique. What is distressing about New Orleans is that its promotes itself as being bigger than it is and offering stuff that it really doesnt. New Orleans' Burbon street is located in the French Quarter which unto itself is architectually gorgeous, a palatte of balconies and shutters, that leaves you feeling like you are on the backlot to a studio. But, after about 3 hours of the French Quarter, it grows old. The City has done virtually nothing to enhance the experience of the French Quarter. Their zoning department should be ashamed of themselves. You virtually stumble upon Burbon Street which has no special announcing cultural or comparable sign but does have occasional modern buildings that destroy the charm of the street and neighborhood. Burbon Street is nothing unique. It's basically a couple of long blocks with bar after bar with a few restaurants and few strip joints (that use the term "bottomless" to mean all nude). It's no different that any other city that offers bar after bar on its street. Outside of Burbon Street, you have very few nightclubs for locals, virtually no afterhours, and very average venues. Locals complain that beyond Burbon there isnt a whole lot to do in town. Here are the great things and bad things about New Orleans nightlife: Great 1. You can drink on the street. 2. You can take your drink from one bar into another bar. 3. Women flashing for beads 4. No ID checking 5. Very good drinks. This may be the best selling point about New Orleans. (If you don't drink and you don't like a frat environment, you will hate New Orleans) New Orlean's drinks are quite good and in some cases, yes, very unique. Even some bars claim ownership rights to their drinks, trademark to their name and ingredients. Here are the suggestions: a) Hurricane. Don't have it at Pat OBriens if you dont like your drink too sweat. Rather, go to Metropolitan (Metro) because they give you more alcohol. Hand Grenade. You can only get it at Tropical Isle in an incredibly unusual plastic container. A fabulous drink! But you will dislike it if you don't like lemon-like sodas like gateroade or sprite. c) Skylab at Pat Obriens. Blue Curacoe, Vodka, Rum and juice. Very good. d) Irish Coffee. Dont go with the baileys choice. Bad 1. Filthy. The streets are like a frat house. They dont have enough garbage cans. Imagine litter everywhere all day long on Burbon Street until they clean at 2 am approx. 2. Filthy. The restrooms, bars, restaurants would get an F by the LA Health Department. Kitchens ... restrooms ... unbelievable! Even at places that must gross about $500K in income a year like Cafe Du Monde --- you think you are in an outhouse inside the kitchen! 3. Security. No security guards anywhere in the bars. So hope nothing goes wrong. 4. Music. Too much kareoke, top 40 rock and roll, and people passing off Honky-Tonk music and Elton John piano tunes as Jazz. House of Blues doesnt play jazz on some nights, the bars play rock n roll ... if you think Burbon street is jazz club after jazz club, a little bit of Miles, a little Dixieland, it absolutely is not. If you want to hear jazz at the Foundation Room, you have to sit in a theater seating. 5. Dancing. Everyone dances in the bars in rows looking at the band. You think you are in Europe. Here are some great venues that you should check out: 1) Pat Obriens 2) Tropical Isle 3) Razoos 4) Coyote Ugly 5) The W 6) Metro 7) & 8) 735 9) House of Blues 10) K Pauls for dinner Here are some places that you should skip 1) 360. Overall, New Orleans for nightlife is at best a one - two day experience. You run out of venues very quick and the overall environment grows tired after a while because it the same thing over and over again.
  2. Dont know if this is the right type of engineering.... have you tried the auto manufacturers .... lot of their design studios are just south of LA in Long Beach and similar?
  3. For the question about Afterhours.... so many places in LA ... depends if you want a different separate venue for afterhours or a venue that is open evening to pass 2 am .... For Afterhours --- top choice, AD. For Venues open late --- try Hacienda, it's new. There a ton of other choices of course.
  4. Question is where did we NOT go lol .... So how were the ratios at 1 am ... at 9:30 it was (no joke) about 1400 guys and 40 girls? Do they serve any beverages? They have a liquor license or not? Heard thought that venue is alwaysssss crowded like that .... learned on the net thereafter its open several days per week.
  5. sebastianxy: did you go? Went here ---- website said doors open @9... got there @9:30... there was somewhere between 1500 and 2000 people in line (like a line to see a Star Wars movie!)... door open at 10 --- didnt have patience to wait in line.
  6. Sounds really good. It's listed all over the net ... so probably will be very well attended.
  7. TO: chaos33 For people who admit they have no clue about where to go when in LA ... think about you are looking for. Here are some picks (not too much thinking into this, just thinking real quick): 1. Most Popular Hot Spots AD, Garden of Eden, still the Highlands 2. Largest (Physical) Hot Spots AD, Garden of Eden, Highlands, Arena 3. Most Talkative/Approachable Crowds Hollywood Canteen 4. Top Bars Red Rock, Circle Bar, Dublins 5. Most Buzz AD, Ivar, Downtown Standard Try la.citysearch.com to see pictures of the venues and learn more about the venues... then, understand, with nonbar venues, the format changes each night often depending on the promoter.... you need to get on the guestlist generally (unless you are a woman and are gorgeous) to get in (you can't just be prepared to shell out money, that's not enough). Venues in LA work on exclusivity.... lines ... lists. If you want to get on any of the above lists, we can help for many of the venues. (ps.... know that clubs are probably missing from this list ... just writing this posting with about 35 seconds of thought).
  8. TO: arthurb3yahoo For a mixed crowd (gay and straight), try: a. Abbey. Bar/Lounge. no cover. Great music. Beautiful venue. b. Ultraswede. Nightclub.... careful cuz sometimes they cut the place in 1/2 and turn the backside into a different club with a different entry (sort of confusing). Great music, very cool staff. Ultraswede has a discount guestlist we can get you on.
  9. TO: mzsera a. Club One Seven, Saturdays A NIGHT CLUB EXCLUSIVELY FOR THOSE UNDER 21 MINIMUM AGE 15...MUST PRESENT VALID ID ... located below the Highlands. b. Club Hearthrob, Saturdays 7969 Santa Monica Boulevard (West Hollywood) Mostly gay crowd. 18 and over. c. The place next to Garden of Eden 18 and over... its the place on Hollywood blvd on the turn next to Garden.... very goth crowd on saturday. Some above are guestlist only, some arent.
  10. So much for the sticky lol ... people are still posting their queries below asking for advices .... I guess the best way to do this is to respond to each question outside the sticky within this sticky with the nature of the question as the subject so others can scroll for these same answers when they ask in the future. Here we go!

  16. I know this isnt the New Orleans board ... but since it's the closest choice lol .... has anyone been to New Orleans before and can suggest some nightclubs to this fellow CP'er that are a MUST to check out .... anyone know any New Orleans promoters to set up this LA CP'er with while he is in New Orleans? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

  19. Formats are changing cuz of the new year at venues ... but do you want big venue or small? Post back. Here to help.
  20. Never heard of that B-day thang Red does! That is TOO cool. You know, had some of their food when they had a fundraiser for Hollywood cityhoood, and wow, was it good food! Was totally shocked! Down to the coffee! In a disco, who would imagine! (Although, I know the Century Club has incredible entrees, especially the fish). But wow, that cake ... it all sounds good. How did you find out about that? Are there other clubs that do that? You know, that is a sign of a great venue if they take care of their patrons like that ... because for every partyguest you had for your b-day fiesta that also had fun, they'll tell 5 others, who will tell 5 others. That's how you build customer loyalty, not by leaving people staying on the curb in a line for an hour as everyone pushes each other. Thumbs up to Arena! So glad to hear about the great birthday!
  21. FYI ... if anyone wants to go to the Larchmont party, the tickets are almost sold out for good reason. Same is almost also true for the Hilton party. Have fun
  22. Live it up --- have the time of your life tonight ... make us proud! (And of course, be safe and dont drink and drive).
  23. Happy Birthday! Live it Up!
