  1. i think one of the biggest problems that made alot of clubs go downhill were all the guestlists. i worked with bon and joey for a good 2-3 years. started with them over at stingrays and moved over to bunka and had the best clubbin years of my life. still to this day too. we had our crew of promoters and we went out and did our job everyday with flyers and word of mouth. a few years go past and everyone wanted to be a promoter and have there own guestlist. dont get me wrong alot of people did do good but alot of people just wanted to get in free and call themselves a big shot. i think the biggest downfall is when sayreville pulled back the closing time to 2am from 3am. then another is when bunka and abyss got there raid and it seemed like it started to break up from there. alot of crews broke up and did there own thing. but thats the way it happens. good things and great parties dont last forever but we will remember them forever. i loved all the partys, the opening funktion party with acid and skribble, heat fridays with richie santana, silver ball saturdays with the best djs in the area, the time rave for new years, all the teen nights and concerts. shit i remember when we had n'sync there with like a few thousand girls standing online just to get in. ahhhhh memories. ill always miss the nights at bunka and if there is ever a reunion at the starland then i will be the first one to wait on line there, lol.

unfortunately, I'll always believe the smaller club/lounge creations in the early 2000's killed Bunka. not to bash any of them...but clearly there wasnt enough partygoers in the central/north jersey area to handle a few of these. Deko, Sleep, etc....with Abyss, Bunka, SoundGarden, and Metro already boomin...it only took a couple of the smaller joints to break up one of them. thats not to say bunka failed because of them...but clearly cashing out at the time before the commercial real estate market plummeted was sweeter than the long term prospects from future club income...especially with a new lounge popping up on every corner. the internet also became a force in the late 90's/early 2000's...more than it was in the past in my opinion. i never heard of half of these little bar/lounges that existed before, solely because there wasnt a good outlet for communication previously...except the promoter. today, i can log on to any club board and see whats going on at 20 clubs, sign up for guestlist online, hear about how it was the next morning, etc. All this creates stiff competition.

in any case, just trying to rationalize why my favorite club exists no more

    c) Silverballs

    d) the 50 year old arab guy who used to dance from 9pm-10pm

    e) Hip hop separate from the main floor

    f) Kirk spinning 3 hours without a hip hop set requirement

    g) the hardcore early crowd

    h) 2nd best stage ever...2nd only to djais stage

    i) Hottest bartending staff around...girl and guy

    j) Best dancefloor...hands down

    k) promoters who knew how to throw a party consistently and treated their clientele right

This was a club that did everything right...if they'd only get together again to show NJ how its done. The existing clubs are great in the winter....but hey, we all know they're no Bunka. the scene has lost its luster in the winter since the day it closed. Long live the Djais Bunka Reunion parties!

  3. not music wise, bro............... but it's okay thou........... good job on not playin hip hop on fridays anymore at joeys. LET THE EVIL KIRK OUT AND DROP SICK PROGRESSIVE TRIBAL............

Kirk's had residencies at DJais and Joeys for longer than youve been itchin the kitch. keep itchin

  4. I DONT KNOW WHAT YOU WERE LISTENING TO, BUT HE WAS PLAYING COMERECIAL SHIT LAST NIGHT. ALOT OF THOSE TRACKS HE WAS PLAYING WAS LIKE REMIXED HIP HOP TRACKS. HE PLAYED A JERSEY SET. NOTHING DURING THE NIGHT STOOD OUT THAT HE PLAYED. IT WAS DEF NOT A GOOD SET BY HIM. AND THERES A DIFFERNCE BETWEEN VOCAL SHIT (KTU NONSENSE OR SOMETHING YOU WOULD HERE AT THE JERSEY SHORE) AND UNDERGROUND.

THE STUFF MORALES PLAYS IS UNDERGROUND AND AT DEKO HE PLAYED A TYPICAL VOCAL SET THAT YOU WOULD HERE AT ANY JERSEY VENUE

never said it was a good set...said above that it was not one of my favorites. disagree that it was a commercial set though...although i did leave at 1:30am so maybe he rocked more commercial stuff afterwards. your still stuck on the fact that he played vocal and played the typical jersey venue style...and my comment stands...a) he always spins vocals...name one set where he is not predominantly vocal B) you cant expect morales to spin the underground house/disco/soulful stuff you hear at 3am on KTU at Deko or on galaxy 105/106...staten island wouldnt be able to guido pump their way into fun-filled-saturday-night. as much as i appreciated deko bringing him out...he played to the crowd that attends. similar to how you played hip hop in the city

  5. Being That Ive Heard Him Before And Enjoyed Him. And Listen To His Mix Shows And Cds. I Wasnt To Impressed. I Thought When He First When On He Was Playing Good And Then Reliazed Everybody There Was From Jersey And All They Wanted Was Vocals. Then He Changed The Whole Vibe To Please Nj.

I Really Enjoyed Roger Sanchez Cause He Just Played His Shit And Rocked It At Deko. Didnt Care What People Wanted To Hear. He Played His Style.

I Actaully Was About To Go To Discoteque Cause I Just Wanted To Hear Him Play Some Good House Music, None Of That Remix Hip Hop Vocally Shit. Hopefully He Will Be Playing Again Soon In Nyc. So Ill Be Able To Check It Out

Do You Agree Or Disagree With Me?

    with all respect....

name one mix show, cd, radio set...where he is not predominantly vocally focused. your note above made it seem like he played a mainstream set last night...hardly so. that said, i was disappointed he didnt play more of the disco type/soulful stuff that he is known for and rather played out for the staten island heads. i think my problem is that the music I am normally used to with morales is not meant for deko. maybe i should go see him at a lounge..rather than a guido club. morales is my fav dj by all means...but he didnt play a favorite set last night because of the venue he had to cater to....thats a problem for NJ, not for him

sidenote...richie opened well...lots of disco/soulful stuff. would love to hear more of that sometime

  6. Two things:

    1) "More" infiltration of Thugs (as already stated by someone above)

    2) The mindset of promoters to rely on Clubplanet and NJguido as their main outlets to market the clubs/their nights. A reset to promoting needs to take effect in order for the NJ scene in general to come back. Bon (and crew) and Binoy (and crew) seem to be the only ones who go beyond the message boards during the week. Only the die-hards are on these boards. The regular weekender's never hear about the promotions anymore...

Outside of this board...I never heard of Flight, Taste, etc. I dont listen to KTU much but everytime I turn it on, I hear the word Djais and Deko Lounge about once every 10 minutes.
