  1. OK...I might have understood the gist of that anti-nyc-hip-hop-club-scene rant...you don't like to go to parties, you just like Hot 97??? well, in Miami, the whole fm radio dial is hip hop. The clubs have a little of everything (although rock is pretty rare here)...Maybe it's hard to tell on this message board, but Miami LOVES hip hop. And Miami loves a party--not that NYC doesn't, but Miami LIVES to party, so we do it right. I mean, of course all the hip hop parties aren't perfect...but Tues. @ Rain, Thurs. @ Crobar & Fri. @ Nikki Beach are as close as it gets!

  2. I used to go to Crobar in Chicago & the caged dancers there were incredible. Crobar in Miami is great--I think their future is BRIGHT--and I can't wait for Crobar NYC. It definitely attracts tourists esp. around spring break, but I don't think that's necessarily a problem. People from all over dancing together is great, as long as everyone knows that just because YOU are on vacation & want to get wrecked & f*ck doesn't mean EVERYONE is there to act just as stupid...But I digress...Crobar is the best.

  3. I think Miami has a good hip-hop scene...(I have to represent us hip-hop fans, or I know no one else will!) I think Miami puts an importance on the club scene--especially in South Beach, that no other city that I've ever been to does. (Where else is it considered SOOOO EARLY to get up at 10am??) In most cities, clubs close at 2.

Club-fashion is much more daring here--maybe it's the heat, maybe it's something in the air...When I walk down the street I can tell if a window-shopper is a tourist because they see the clothes and say, "Henry! Can you imagine anyone wearing something like that?" But in Miami we wear it and know what accessories go with it! So, I guess I'm saying that the clubs here are somewhat like fashion shows. But that has this negative connotation I don't mean. I love it.

Things I look forward to in Miami: Buying one of those lace 80's-influenced sexy dresses I've been seeing around with matching stilettos, WMC--Stretch Armstrong is coming to the Beach Friday @ Nikki's--I can't wait, and Irie tonight at, you guessed it, Nikki Beach.

  4. Happy President's Day!!! I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday, & not cooped up in a cubicle like moi...I'm saving my sick days for my own hangovers this WMC! Right now I have plans to revisit Spin--they're reopening for WMC. I loved that place--the upstairs glassed-in part & all the balconies...I don't know if I'm a voyeur or an exhibitionist--ha ha. Anyway, South Beach Underground's there on the 17th, and NUT & HONEY, DJ Boris & DJ Riz are there on the 19th. On Thurs. of course, I have to go to Crobar (Syntax & Ronson).

  5. The hip hop parties I know about so far are: Syntax & Marc Ronson @ Crobar on March 20th. And,even though SPIN is closing or closed or whatever, they're renting out the space on the 17th for South Beach Underground & on the 19th for Nut & Honey, DJ Boris & DJ Riz.

Why is it that whenever people like hip hop, someone has to act shocked--the joke's getting a little old.

  6. Check out Broward County Humane Society. You can put in a request for the kind of breed you want & they call you when they get one in. Pound puppies are the most loyal dogs! Also, you'd be saving a Yorkie. And it's only $70 for all it's current shots & to get it fixed--the dog itself is free.

  7. I read your message yesterday about how hip-hop glorifies violence & all the "-isms" (racism & sexism, etc...), and I can't say it's totally untrue. BUT, besides maybe Folk music--if that's your thing, there aren't any types of music that are totally concerned with uplifting society that are good to dance to. So, even though I'm not a Missy or a J-Lo wanna-be, even though I don't think gun-toting and ho-slapping is dope, and although I'm not having unprotected sex with ANYONE I meet this Friday, I'll be spending my evening dancing on the sand, watching bad-ass fire dancers, and, yes, listening to hip-hop at Nikki Beach!!!
