Heated Rooftop Patio: **SPECIAL EVENT** SOLOMONIC SOUND SYSTEM feat. ROB PAINE!! [ Worship Recordings | SolomonicSound.com ] - PHI It was during the earlier part of 1993 that Rob Paine met and began to work with Keith Landis (Dj O'keef) and Kevin Gimble. As a collective called Special K, they played a major part in the early development of the underground dance movement in Philadelphia. Over the years Special K (later known as Circle) brought many underground music greats to the Philadelphia area for the first time. Since founding his own label in 1998, Rob has catapulted himself into a place alongside many of the American dance music scene’s finest up-and-coming producer/DJ’s – San Diego’s H-Foundation, New York’s 6400 Crew, San Francisco’s Rocket, to name a few. Building upon the dubby foundations and percussive house sensibilities that make up what many perceive to be the ‘West Coast US house sound’, Rob and Worship inject an authentic Rasta heartbeat and a little of that inherent Philly soul into their records, making them stand out a little further than their contemporaries. Catch his debut tonight at Club Five, as Circle families from old and new come together again - under one roof. Promotional giveaways ALL night. After putting out 12"s on New Id, Tangent and Aquasonic in 2003 things have gone from strength to strength in 2004 with releases on Hospital, Liquid V, Advanced and Doc Scott's 31 Records as well as high profile remixes for DJ Die "Autumn", Bebel Gilberto "Aganju" and Adam F & Fresh's "Sun Goes Down". Commix have received major club and radio support from a host of DJ’s including Fabio, Grooverider, Bryan G, SS, LTJ Bukem, London Elektricity, High Contrast, Doc Scott, Nu Tone, Flight and Bailey. LOGISTICS [ Hospital | Brand Nu | Advanced ] - UK **US DEBUT** At 22 years old, Matt Gresham aka LOGISTICS is the youngest member of the Hospital family. He's only been making tunes for a couple of years but has exploded onto the scene in the last few months with his epic soundscapes and dubbed-out b-lines. Matt recently left his graphic design course at Goldsmiths in London to take on producing full time; a wise move with DJs like GROOVERIDER and BRYAN GEE busting his dubs left, right and centre! Matt's also got tracks forthcoming on LIQUID V, INNERGROUND and CIA, and he's collaborated with his brother NU:TONE for their NU:LOGIC project, the results of which can be heard on the WEAPONS OF MASS CREATION LP in the shape of 7" jazz-step nugget "On and On". "Replay" is available now on the "Weapons of Mass Creation LP/CD" + 12" sampler (nhs68). "Together" drops on the "Future Sound of Cambridge EP". Along w/ BASIC OPERATIONS [ Renegade | Freak | TOV ] - NC **DC DEBUT** Basic Operations is the group formation of Nathan Hayes (Sirus) and Kevin Jekel (Focus). Phuturo Recordings from San Francisco owned by Juju and a request straight from Americas number one, Dieselboy to do a remix of Karl K, Jae Kennedy & Kaos’s, “Studio 54†for his Human Imprint. 3. Wednesday | November.17.2004 M3 and Upfront Industries present: Rinse Magazine, District Soul and DCDNB sponsored event GRIDLOK [ Violence | Virus | Project 51 ] - SF As one of America’s hardest working producers and DJs, Gridlok has charted a steady, methodical path into the vanguard of drum and bass. His tracks enjoy the support of drum and bass’ finest, from Andy C to Bailey. His work ethic and tireless efforts to advance the sonic breadth of the music have yielded tremendous dividends for drum and bass fans worldwide. Recent tracks such as “Heatwave†on Violence have become staples of countless major league DJs worldwide, and they are huge crowd favorites. His aesthetic firmly cemented to the dance floor, Gridlok has been successful at carving out a sound that manages to incorporate fragmentary echoes of his musical interests outside of drum and bass while maintaining the hard, shining surface of drum and bass at its most technologically advanced edge. With a series of forthcoming releases lined up for Violence, Virus, and other labels, and no slowing down in his DJ schedule, look for Gridlok to continue his ascendance into the highest echelons of drum and bass in 2004. SILVER of ACCIDENTAL HEROES [ Virus | Metalheadz | Nemesis ] - UK *DC/BALT DEBUT* Sonic & Silver formed early in 1999 to provide an umbrella name for the collaborative production work of Accidental Heroes. Their style is heavy but with a musical soul. It is a mixture of heavy funk breaks, fat bubbling dub wise bass and cinematic atmospherics creating tracks that strike the right chord every time. Silver is currently working alongside BBC1xtra, V records, Emotif, Timeless, LPlates, Random Records (Australia) and has recently been working alongside Hive & Gridlock in San Francisco. The forthcoming projects are intended to be an outlet for only Sonic & Silvers finest pieces, and will hopefully set a new standard for their work. The concept is simply of diversity, and their own work will feature very different styles, encompassing their heavier side as well as their more musical, melodic one. Their tracks have never been stronger, or more abundant. If they continue with their rich vein of form, it will no longer be possible that chance provided their tag. It's a good time to be a Hero! BOBBY JAE [ District Soul | DCDNB | Upfront ] - DC Mastering the sultry, sexy sounds of DC drum and bass, Bobby Jae never fails with his impeccable mixing and top-notch selection. With collaborations in the studio and a new CD in the works, Bobby is taking soulful drum and bass to a level of its own. If you haven’t already, make sure to get your copy of Perpetual Motion tonight which was 1 of 7 mixes recognized in URB magazine’s Mix-It Best of 2003.
