Interface 21.0 by Droid Behavior TECHNO:HOUSE:MINIMAL:ACID SPEEDY J (Live) (2nd LA appearance) Novamute : Plus8 : Warp : http://www.speedyj.com // NL w/ live visuals by Scott Pagano http://www.neither-field.com // LA Speedy J's 1st LA appearance at the Droid 4-Year was one of the most talked-about techno events of 2006. Jochem returns with highly acclaimed visualist Scott Pagano for another dose of cutting-edge electronic performance. Starting out as a hip-hop DJ/producer in the late 80s, Jochem Paap (Speedy J) entered techno on Richie Hawtin & John Acquaviva's untouchable Plus8. An impeccable producer and performer, Jochem Paap left hip-hop and turntables in 1990 to join the techno elite on Hawtin/Aqcquaviva's untouchable Plus8 label and the electronic pioneer Warp Records. After a number of landmark releases and ripping the techno playbook to shreds with his sound puzzles for Novamute, Speedy J returned to the dancefloor with 2002's Loudboxer opus and his recent "Collabs" series. His recent efforts have centered around a 5.1 audiovisual platform with visual artist Scott Pagano, Umfeld. http://www.umfeld.tv/ along w/ ACID CIRCUS (Live) Droid Behavior // LA DRUMCELL Droid Behavior // LA JASON EMSLEY Platzhirsch // LA Andrew Kelley Lifestyle // LA Frank Fader Lifestyle // LA visual experiments by bijan + DM + skewfm + guests 10pm-8am // 18+/21+ // $15 Presale @ http://www.*************.com droidbehavior@gmail.com :: 323.697.0680 located: call night of event for directions. 2. Saturday November 11th INTERFACE 17.0 specail guests: Surgeon LIVE :: Tresor : Downwards : Counter Balance : http://www.dj-surgeon.com : UK Since exploding onto the techno scene in 1995 with the now-classic "Surgeon EP," DJ/producer anthony child has been remolding contemporary techno. His early releases on Downwards and Tresorcaused a ripple of excitement among techno's elite players, resulting in remix work for Dave Clarke and inclusion on Jeff Mills' seminal 'Live at the Liquid Room' mix. Over the years surgeon has explored more cerebral elements of production while maintaining an unusual harsh and funky edge in his music. experiments with industrial and musique concrète techniques can be heard on his darker collaborations with Regis as British Murder Boys as well as remix work for classic experimentalists Coil and Faust. Witness Surgeon's renowned set as he uses cutting edge hardware and software to break the standard DJ format and blur all lines between DJs, live performers, and remixers. Essential. Richard Devine :: Schematic : Warp : ATL Richard Devine is one of the most talented (if not prolific) of the producers organized around the Miami neo-electro haven of Schematic Records. Based in Atlanta, Devine's productions have the rigid breakbeat swing of prime electro recordings, but also a high degree of DSP (digital signal processing) magic in keeping with Schematic's acknowledged heroes, Autechre. After EPs for a sublabel of Woody McBride's Drop Bass Network and the Devine EP on Schematic, the producer began getting a reputation in advanced electronics circles with remixes (of material by Aphex Twin, Chris Deluca, Slicker, and Schematic's own Phoenecia) as well as compilation appearances (Ischemic Folks and Lily of the Valley, both on Schematic). Turned on to Devine's work by praise from Autechre and his remix of Aphex Twin's "Come to Daddy," Britain's Warp Records hired him in 2000 to record a full-length. The results, Lipswitch, were jointly released one year later by Schematic and Warp. techno.acid.electro.idm 1st ever LA appearance by: Surgeon [Warp. Tresor. Downwards. Counterbalance. 6. Thursday Jan 5th Thomas Fehlmann @ El Cid by Datage, Droidbehavior, Icomplex 2 rooms of cutting edge music from 3 of LA\'s underground music purveyors ==Indoor== * THOMAS FEHLMANN of the ORB [ kompakt, plug research, Germany ] An important man in the German electronic scene, Thomas Fehlmann has brought several diverse acts to Germany to record and collaborate. Beginning in the early '80s, his group Palais Schaumburg fused dance rhythms to the experimentalist flair of '70s German rock. A Detroit-Berlin cultural exchange through the Tresor label originally brought Underground Resistance to Germany, and Fehlmann did his part by recording separately with Blake Baxter, Eddie Flashin' Fowlkes and Juan Atkins (as 3MB). A longtime association with another electronica institution, the Orb, gave him a chance to record and produce the group in Berlin. While managing the band Fisherman's Friend, he convinced two of the members to form Sun Electric and has produced their Kitchen album. Fehlmann's own recordings are also released under the name Readymade. * DEREK MICHAEL [ detroit underground ] Established as one of Canada's premier DJ act's, holding residencies at the world's most prestigious venues such as Club Tresor (Berlin) Frigid (Sydney) Friction (Detroit) and Tokyo's Club Core, since 1996, Derek Micheal (aka DM) has consistently incorporated influences from the bizarre to the sublime. His studio tracks, released through Hor-Zu (shitkatapult), Sender and most recently, critic's darling Detroit Underground Records, reflect Michael¹s deep knowledge and vast historical understanding of Western musical practice. A knowledge which he has consistently shared with audiences around the world. * edIT [ I COMP ] * 8 Bit Weapon [ dataage ] * the_flight_orchestra-DJ [ dataage ] ==Outdoor== * DJ Olivia [ dataage ] * Olie [ droid behavior ] * Drumcell [ droid behavior ] 9-2 | $10 | 21+ | full bar located: El Cid @ 4212 W Sunset Blvd, LA info: http://www.dataagemusic.com | http://www.droidbehavior.com email: droidbehavior@gmail.com
  7. Richard Devine - Warp, Schematic, ATL Richard Devine is one of the most talented (if not prolific) of the producers organized around the Miami neo-electro haven of Schematic Records. The results, Lipswitch, were jointly released one year later by Schematic and Warp Adam X - Sonic Groove, NY Through years of DJing and production and his affiliation with the respected Sonic Groove Records, Adam X is a recognized part of the East Coast's electronic music history. Mitchell's techno time line begins in the late '80s to early '90s with his older brother Frankie Bones. Bones was part of the Storm Rave events that exposed much of New York to the distinct beat of techno in its purest form and ignited the East Coast techno music scene. In 1990, the Brooklyn-based brothers teamed up with Heather Heart and opened Sonic Groove, a record store in Brooklyn. When most of Brooklyn was listening to rap, Adam X was pushing the sounds of electronic music, sometimes causing him to be ostracized and humiliated by the existing music community. Five years later the store moved to Manhattan, and the label Sonic Groove Records was launched. The label's first release was from Adam X, who also took the position of managing A&R. He used his position with the label to release and expose local talent as well as introducing European talent like Dave Clarke and Neil Landstrom to the United States. In the late '90s, after the move to Manhattan, Adam X's production work was finally released on a larger scale, and his work and role in the development of East Coast techno was recognized. In 1998 he released Audiobiography on Sonic Groove, bringing attention and acclaim to the artist and label. A year later he released a mix on TVT, Wax Trax!, Mastermix, Vol. 2. Starting in 2000, he had two releases on Instict Records, On the One and Two and Vandalism, which followed in 2001. Daedelus - Ninja Tune, Plugresearch LA's most daring new artists wears a buzzing halo. This young musical romantic weaves together a true "love-sound" that falls between honeyed melody and avant-electronics. Daedelus chops and splices disparate acoustic sources into incredible works of staggering resonance. His production style is very unique; it has a precise impact that will make you wonder if you’re dreaming or dancing. Caught between myth and reality, past and future, Daedelus produces sonic mazes from a studio deep within Santa Monica, California. Crafting waxen wings from his background in live instruments, a young Daedelus began noodling bass clarinet notes, and soon graduated into the covenant of double-bass. After an ill-fated affair pondering classical and jazz, rave paved the way, and a burgeoning record collection fueled Daedelus’ artistic creativity, preparing the path to his first full length release, Invention. Inspired by 30’s, 40’s and 70’s grooves, and defying genres such as downtempo and hip-hop, Daedelus gradually begins to venture into the L.A. afterdark. The music on "Invention" combines multiple instruments, including non-traditional ones such as computer printers, toy pianos, and the techno harp known as the Omnichord. Daedelus invites local MC talents Busdriver and Sach to flow over the masterful bonus versions of "Quiet Now" and "Pursed Lips Reply." Invention unfolds in dynamic ranges of emotion. Open your ears to Daedelus’ world of musical tinkering and you’ll be walking faster, seeing clearer, and feeling deeper. Daedelus is also preparing to release an e.p. working-titled "Melody Intro" on Scott Herren’s Eastern Developments imprint and producing the next "The Weather" album for Mush Recordings. Daedelus is now found pouring lighter fluid on the turntables at dublab.com, fretting endlessly over his live set, and generally thinking in threes and fours. Eliot Lipp - East Developments, Hefty, CHI/LA His Sequential Circuits keyboard might be missing a few buttons, but one listen to Eliot Lipp’s debut full-length and it becomes clear that those particular triggers must not be important. Recorded in a shifty Chicago apartment on just that old 70’s synth and an equally questionable sampler, Lipp creates tracks that sound far beyond his limited means. Born in Tacoma Washington, Lipp went through the time-honored discovery of hip-hop throughout the 90’s. Tribe, RZA and Hieroglyphics all made the cut. Upon moving to the Bay Area in 1998, he dove headfirst into San Fran’s neoteric hip-hop scene. Cutting his first records with The Era in 2001, Lipp spent his time away from the multi-track listening to the next wave of underground coming from Dan the Automator, Mad Lib and Freestyle Fellowship, all producers who’s textured style inform the cuts set before you. Lipp’s fluid instrumentals are a fresh to the ears, yet they already sound like classic cuts with dust settled deep into the grooves. MCs would love to get all over these tracks, but the songs just don’t require them. Enjoy the layered moments of spacey synth and gritty drums. They are all you need. Drumcell - Droidbehavior, LA a graduate of the musician's institute and a long-time performer, drumcell is one of techno's greatest allies in southern california. after being exposed to indoor and outdoor raves in the 90s, he grew addicted to the sounds of acid, industrial, techno and gabber and quickly got some decks to satisfy his new vinyl fetish. soon after he had set up a live pa and established himself in los angeles as one of the major players in the small yet loyal techno scene, becoming known for an extremely hard, dark, and uncompromising sound. forming droid was the next logical step to raise awareness for the new la techno scene and expose local artists as well as more well-known djs and pas from around the country. After two long years of promotion, parties, records and everything in between, droid has become the center for la techno and drumcell remains steadfast in his mission of putting this city on the map. Acid Circus - Droidbehavior, Deafmosaic, LA an integral part of droidbehavior. acid circus is vangelis and vidal vargas.....plus they're hot.

  14. Sunday January 23rd Droidbehavior presents: Matthew Dear @ Monroe's featuring: Matthew Dear [Ghostly/Spectral, Plus8, Detroit] It didn't take long for Ann Arbor, MI's Matthew Dear to catapult himself into the front rank of microhouse producers, emerging in the early 2000s with a string of high-quality releases for Spectral Sound, Plus 8, and Perlon (under several aliases). Born and raised in Texas, Dear first discovered electronic music at age 16; he later attended the University of Michigan, where he met future Ghostly International label founder Sam Valenti IV. He started DJing at parties and eventually moved into production. In late 1999, he and Daisha teamed up to deliver the inaugural Ghostly 12" release, "Hands Up for Detroit." Dear wound up on Ghostly's more dance-oriented subsidiary Spectral Sound, for which he debuted in 2001 with the 12" "Irreparably Dented"; another, "Stealing Moves," followed in 2002. That year, Dear signed to Richie Hawtin's Plus 8 label under the alias False, and issued three 12" singles of minimalist house up through early 2003, which were later gathered on a self-titled CD compilation. 2003 was his busiest year yet: as Jabberjaw, he released the "Girlfriend" 12" on Berlin's Perlon label, and returned to Spectral Sound for EP1 and EP2 that summer. Late in the year, he released his first-ever full-length album, Leave Luck to Heaven, also on Spectral Sound. Titled after the loose English translation of the word "Nintendo," the album earned positive notice from a number of publications, and spun off the highly acclaimed single "Dog Days." The Backstroke EP followed in 2004. also playing: Jasper [Force Inc, Cytrax, Delay, LA] Sariah Storm [Terpsichore, LA] Kjel [LA] 9-2am | free | 21+ located: Monroe's @ 8623 Melrose at Huntly info: http://www.droidbehavior.com | info@droidbehavior.com coming in feb: Interface 11.0

  16. Third wave techno artist Kenny Larkin was part of the Detroit techno movement that took the city's famous brand of hard-edged musical futurism into new and innovative areas. With countless releases on highly respected labels such as WARP, Peacefrog, R&S, Planet E and Plus8 along with gigs at clubs and festivals around the globe, Kenny has rightfully earned his widespread recognition over the last 12 years. As a DJ, Kenny has been blurring the lines of house and detroit techno to perfection since the 90's. Its no wonder his skills and heavy doses of funk have kept dancefloors sweaty to this day. His inspiring performance at Interface was recieved with such an overwhelming response that Droidbehavior is bringing him back for another lesson in the ART OF DANCE.
