  1. Action! Is anyone alive around here? How was your 4th of July? I went to Hollywood Beach. We hung out with some friends on the beach and I took my little boy to the 101.5 FM tent to dance to the groovin' 70s and '80s music. We got caught in the rain and ran all over the place looking for cover. Finally we set up camp in one of the parking garages along with crowds of other people. Eventually we just got tired of waiting and went back into the rain to watch the fireworks. My little boy Carl was so scared of the fireworks at first - he's 18 months. But he eventually relaxed a little bit. Anyway hope you all are having a great holiday weekend!

  2. Hello Patois,

Nice to hear you're doing well

    Congratulations on your baby!

I am the proud father of a baby boy too, James Alexander

People still come in and out but it's not the same of way back

Most of them are on either cooljunkie or tranc3 addict

    Glad to hear from ya!

Hey digitalphoenix...Congrats on your son James! I just love parenthood...it completely changed me in a lot of ways.

well that's too bad about the board....is anybody still doing reviews or doing threads about events? I have been out of the loop for a while (never was in it that much). For a while I wasn't even going down to Miami at all but I just got a job back on Brickell where I was working 2 years ago so we'll see ;)

  3. you can't replace too easily the whole experience of Twilo, not just in being there but in getting there...I remember we had to take the subway to 8th Avenue and then walk the rest of the way into the dark and seedy west side where the entire lair of Twilo was announced only by that simple neon sign and some lines outside. I remember first hearing about it and we were tired of the top-40 scene at Webster Hall so we went. Was pretty expensive though, but a lot of clubs in the city were expensive and this one was better than most. It had an intangible spacey vibe about it...which the Jetson-like bouncy seats helped to materialize. The music was always something unexpected...one time I went they had a bunch of DJs tag-teaming on the decks....they would dance and rotate, making the rotation into the DJ booth part of the dance...

Everything is so overpromoted down here that I think that would kill a lot of the sense of mystery and intrigue that was part of the original Twilo, as well as the throng of expectations. I'm just expecting it to be something different...hopefully good. As long as they play some good trance I'll be happy.

  4. That would have been an awesome show.

We went to the Crystal Method show on Monday nite, then spent the 4th

at home in the pool, cooked out, and lit up the neigborhood with some pyrotechnics at nite

thanks, it was. Pool party sounds nice too...& yesterday was a great day for it.

  5. Went to the celebration in Sunrise where the Guess Who performed - they were great! They finished with "American Woman," but then did an encore with "These Eyes" and "No Time." There were at least three generations of people in the dancecrowd...and everyone dancing like kids...:)

Maybe the times are a'changin' again.

  6. I have this one group of friends from a job I had almost 10 years, that is so diverse that by chance we figured out Kakaraoke was something we could enjoy together and at the same time make fun of each other and watch in amazement the weirdest characters in the land.

good times...I only had the pleasure of singing with co-workers once...it was hilarious! Someone ended up squealing through Eminem's "Without Me," which had the rest of us like :woah2::rofl:

  7. Nacho libre is the bomb-dee-gee-deeeee!!!!

I don't believe in God, I only believe in science!!!!!!!!!!!!

just went to see it again....love the songs - "I am e-singing at the party...but Ramses doesn't dance at the party" and his little trumpet sound, and the one for Incarnation

  8. Thanks Bling :) I just added a couple more pics...#2, #7 and #20. I also have a few more pics that came out a little blurry. I forgot to bring my digital camera so I picked up a disposable camera downtown. I'll post those if people want to see them. I like your pics too Bling....the rally looks like it was awesome. After I had been in the parade I just felt like, for me, nothing could top that and I'd seen what I came to see (however unexpected!). So I got back on the Metrorail and went back to the 79th Street station. Unlike what I had thought, I did not have an original idea in parking there...when I got there at about 12:30 I found out practically everyone and their brother had the same idea too :P

If you know who the players are in these pictures...please spread your knowledge :) I do not follow sports that closely but I am incredibly proud of the Heat...may they repeat!

  9. When I got to the parade route at about 2:30, I was walking up to Biscayne Blvd. by Bayfront Park and a lot of people were walking away. I thought that might mean the parade had moved on...but I figured I would keep walking until I saw people ahead of me turning back. Well, I had incredible luck...I kept walking up until it didn't seem I could walk any further (which wasn't very close to the parade) but then they moved one of the barricades and tons of people (including me) poured through. We were some of the people that got to be in the parade! It was awesome, being able to be inches away from the players and the trophy. The cute little kids were cooling us down with super soakers from the truck, which was very nice in the sweltering weather. We walked alongside the a truck of players and their families and the trophy car until we got to the intersection in front of the AAA at which point the police pushed us back. Except for the cops, who seemed stressed more than anything else, everyone was having a great time and the players were just as overjoyed as everyone else in the crowd.

  10. Are you talking about the time that koky got gang-raped by 83 blue-tailed simeons? Or about the time bling made a T-shirt with his own name mispelled? Or about the picture of me rolling and dancing with glowsticks? Or about funketeer practicing yoga on Blue's floor? :D

    All of the above.

why is it that within the last year or so, I usually get this kind of response whenever I post anything...and you now, Funk? I was trying to share some of my experiences from living off of Brickell Avenue. During all of that time I have seen all of the construction and the buildings shoot up, and figured that sooner or later there would be more nightlife in downtown Miami, which I am all in favor of. I moved there for a job and after about a year had to move away again because of another job.

But whether or not you try to trash my experiences...I had many good times down on the Brickell area, as I worked on Brickell pretty much all of last year. I was shown around by coworkers - Florida natives, one of whom was native to Miami and the other whose father was a lawyer in downtown Miami back in the '30s. Since I was new to the area, they wanted to show me some of the hidden treasures of the Brickell area. We had happy hours just about every Friday and we would try out new places whenever we could. These were great times that I'll never forget.

I don't try to discredit anyone else's experiences or what they bring to this board. With this post, I was also trying to pay homage to these other places where we had many memorable nights. Sure we went to Novocento, but one of my coworkers really didn't like it. I actually enjoyed the music and it had some good vibes, but I enjoyed the older places better, where you had a sense of the history of the city, where you could get good drinks and food, be able to look out on the New River or across the bay...

These experiences were special to me and I don't appreciate your trashing them, just as I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate me trashing yours, or treating you like you have no credibility when just about everyone on this board has a story to tell about the magic that comes alive at night in the beautiful cities of Miami and Miami Beach.

  12. the conrad sucked when i went....no one was there and i had to wait forever for my drink...they didn't even know how to make a dirty martini.

The point is, there's other places besides Novocento. Every time we went there we had to wait forever as well...it's not worth all the hype that people had to park all down my street blocks away just to go there.

If you've tried some of the other places, you'll know there's more to downtown nightlife than Novocento. I haven't lived on Brickell for nothing.

  13. There isn't anything in the way of dancing, but there are some other nice places to go for happy hour. Novecento can get to be quite packed...you'd think that by the way people clamor over that place that it was the only bar around Brickell. But there are other spot, less crowded with good atmospheres. There's Perricone's by Mary Brickell Village...think they still have ladies' night on Wednesdays, with drink specials. If you walk down South Miami Avenue there are other places too, such as a little street cafe, and then the River House right next to Tobacco Road. Tobacco Road often has talented local blues acts as well as other music. The outdoor patio with the huge overhanging tree is very relaxing. The Conrad did have a beautiful bar right next to the restaurant, which was popular for happy hour...not sure if it's back open yet. There's also Bijan's on the River, the Rusty Pelican (over the Rickenbacker causeway with a great view of the Miami skyline), etc.
