  2. I'll be there with some friends coming down from Beantown

~ just to see AVB ~ and me ~

Advance tickets are a great idea because there is a separate line for ticket holders. I'm not a big fan of waiting in line, so I always get tix ahead of time. Keeps me happy.

  3. I thought it was a great show ~ Yunus Guneven was a great opener, and Fleming was throwing down some excellent hard driving tunes, def. had the crowd moving. I couldn't believe how fast time flew ~ before I knew it 7am had passed & I was still dancing....very nice. Wish I'd thought to ask about those cd's though! That would have been a nice way to wrap up the night for sure.

I was very surprised at how un-crowded it was at Arc for such a great trance dj. It was actually a great pleasure to have so much room between people on the dancefloor, especially after coming back from all the crammed venues at WMC. It actually gave me room enough to look around & appreciate all the cool lighting & lasers they've got there, it's really a very cool setup they've got. And Arc's sound system is sooooo much better than Avalon's, it's a shame this place is closing (or moving or on hiatus, or however you'd like to phrase it), for it is a very special place that is going to be missed.

  4. CottonCandyDream,

This is my first WMC and first Ultra, so forgive me if I ask a silly question here, but I don't quite understand why some things are noted as 'live' and others are not. When it is next to a dj name, does that mean that they will actually be spinning in the flesh ~ or will it be a pre-produced set of theirs that will be played in their absence? My friend is convinced that ALL the names on the flyer won't be there. Please tell me I'm not dreaming and that ALL the folks on the flyer will be there, doing their magic, live and in the flesh right there before us.

    Thank you kindly!

  5. I thought that Deep Dish at Crobar was the biggest waste of money I've ever made~

I got to Crobar around 1am, dealt with the smarmy doorfolk who were more than willing to take money to bring you to the front of the line...but not into the actual club....ugh...we finally got in around 1:30.

Crobar is awesome, visually and acoustically sensational. I agree that it will dominate NYC nightlife and rightfully so. It is a great venue. The wind tunnel between the two rooms is very cool ~ it's a great design and cool buffer between the two vastly different types of music being played.

Anyway, it was my first time seeeing Deep Dish and I am sorry to say that I thought that DEEP DISH SUCKED MAJOR ASS. Seriously, they just couldn't get a good groove going. I've got no problem with progressive or dark techy tribal beats, but they'd have a long long long build, slowly bring up the pace and mood...and....right when you thought they'd bring you to the top....they'd just drop it right back down to the bottom again. Over and over and over again. Boring music, sloppy mixing, cd's skipping...it was the must frustrating night I've ever had in a club ~ people around me just kept saying "FUCK! ~ these guys SUCK!" each time the build crashed and the peak was dropped. It was all unfufilling musical foreplay as far as I'm concerned. We kept hoping that it would progress & get better, but by 4:30 we gave up hope and bailed. Glad to have checked out Crobar finally, pissed that we wasted so much money to see these no-talent ass-clowns. Should have gone to see Victor Dinaire!!!

  6. That's hilarious, the dj by the bathroom.....

I thought the same thing, that the bathroom dj was better this week than in previous weeks, only because it was the very FIRST time I DIDN"T hear Guns & Roses "Paradise City"

(I fear that it's making me a pavlovian subject. Now every time I hear Axel Rose I have to pee....)

  7. I didn't mean to slight Smith ~ I got there around 2 so I didn't catch too much of his set ~ though what I did experience was a high-energy amazing techno which perfectly set up the crowd for Mauro's deep and dirty set.

I was also impressed with how very friendly so many of the people at this show were. I met lots of cool people, it was an energetic and happy crowd. The whole atmosphere at this show totally blew away his gigs at Arc...which were awesome.

  8. It is two days later and my ears are STILL ringing ~ ouch!

Picotto was excellent and Avalon was more densely packed than I've seen it in the ten or so times I've gone there. Picotto was definitely ON ~ animated and agitated ~ and enjoying the energy of the crowd. Just when I thought he'd let up a little, he dropped another dirty bomb and tried to kill us on the dance floor. Gotta love it! This guy is awesome.

  9. I'll be coming from NY/NJ

My girls are all married these days and are all totally out of the club scene ~ which sucks for me!

I have figured out a tentative schedule.....but I don't think I've allowed much time for actual sleep!

PVD at Space or Digweed at Nerve
