  2. Homegrown - A Party for NYC DJ Talent Tuesday, April 27th at Sin Sin 8pm-2am $3 Domestic Beer All Night Long $5 Well Drinks Till Midnight!!!!!!!! ***Special Guest Alert *** Powder (Vinylholic) POWDER began his start with DJing when he was hired as Creative Director for a then new electronic culture magazine called BPM. This new job led POWDER behind the turntables for the first time and it was quickly thereafter that he started to learn the craft and the art. In June of 1997, Powder decided to explore new directions in music and design and made the big move to New York. After setting up shop in New York at design and PR powerhouse, Young & Rubicam/Burson-Marsteller, Powder began guesting frequently with DJ gigs at Element Zero (Trance Thursdays, 1998), Liquids (Transcendence, 1999), 13 (Beep, 1999), Solas (Derailed, 2000), Filter 14 (Con-fu-sion, 2000) and Drinkland (Oxygen, 1999, 2000, 2001). POWDER can currently be heard every Saturday night at the weekly vinylholic party in New York City. It's located in a bi-level lounge/bar in the East Village called B3. Vinylholic, founded by POWDER, has been running for over 3 1/2 years which began as a Tuesday weekly at the now defunct Gemini Lounge from September 2000 to December 2000. In January 2001, vinylholic found it's current home at B3 on Saturday nights and has since developed a large following due to direct hand-to-hand flyering, mass emails and consistent music. In March 2004 POWDER and vinylholic launched their record label imprint, vinylholic recordings, with the inaugural release by Dibs "I'm The Mack." This virgin single which is in the promo stage, is currently receiving radio and club support by DJ Merritt (Edgeclub / 102.1 KDGE "The Edge") and Mike Traylor (FNX Radio Network Boston 101.7, 92.1 "Soundsystem"). In addition to the DJing and this new record label, POWDER has also been exercising his skills in music production. He has produced and remixed an albums worth of music in the past few years and is currently laying down the finishing touches on each work in progress. Powerstar (Audioelementsonline.com/Aerecordings.com) Native New Yorker, Powerstar Im, began his journey into the electronica music world after a series of career detours in his earlier life. Born (June 12th 1980) in one of the citys most diverse boroughs, Queens, Powerstar, was exposed to mostly rock, hip-hop, new wave, and other top 40 hits of the times. On his tenth birthday, his engineer/artist father and classical pianist mother presented him with an unlikely gift for a young boy, music theory and classical violin lessons. Nevertheless, Powerstars inclination towards anything musical had him belting concertos early on, eventually leading to his enrollment in pre-college music programs at the Julliard and Mannes School of Music. He pursued his classical training with Dr.Laura Mount throughout high school but would soon channel his talents elsewhere. A product of the amalgamation of his parents penchant for the arts, Powerstars other passion was in graphic design. With college application deadlines fast approaching, Powerstar made a life decision to pursue design rather than continue his classical music studies, making the transformation from violinist to graphic designer. While pursuing his associate and bachelors degree in graphic design, Powerstar secured an internship at one of New York’s most prestigious design agencies. Although Powerstar had always been a fan of electronica music, he was born again in the Summer of 1998. While working on his designs, Powerstar would often turn to his electronica music tracks to get his creative energy at peak performance, producing some of his best work during these intense electro graphic design sessions. About the same time, the New York City night scene was once again thriving with big venues beginning to consistently attract even bigger names within the electronica music world. 4. Homegrown - A Party for NYC DJ Talent Tuesday, April 13th at Sin Sin 8pm-2am $3 Domestic Beer All Night Long **Special Guest Alert** Jon (Spec 4 NYC, Big-H Recordings) Jonathan “Jon †Shulman is an artist, producer, engineer, turntablist and multi-instrumentalist. The roots of his sound lie in drum n’ bass, but reach far beyond those boundaries. His unique musical sensibility integrates syncopated poly-rhythms and punishing low-end with elements of hip-hop, soul, house, blues, electro, dub, samba, and disco to create a new and unique form. A native of Long Island, Jon began studying music at the age of 8. Playing both electric and bass guitar, he spent his teenage years moonlighting in several local punk bands. As the sounds of early 90’s rave music filtered from New York City into the surrounding suburbs via mixtapes and late-night college radio, Jon was bitten by the jungle bug. An obsessive record collector and admitted vinyl junky, Jon took up DJing in the summer of 1998. In December of 1999, Jon moved to Manhattan to attend New York University. He dived into the city’s music culture head first, juggling classes, DJing, and part-time jobs at various record labels, music magazines and record distributors. Any spare time leftover was spent dabbling in his rather modest home studio. The hard work is beginning to pay off. Jon’s dubs have been canned by the likes of JB, the Burner Bros, Aquasky, Nicky Blackmarket and DJ Swingsett, His debut 12†inch single “Roller-Rink/Latin dub†was released in April of 2003 on Music-First records, a sub-label of Back2Basics, UK. The record sold out of Manhatten record stores in less then a week. Jon’s drum n’ bass remix of “Fraudstar†by Authors of Streetology is slated for release in late May on Sponge Records. This week's line up: Nathan Leonard 8pm - 9pm [House] (Homegrown NYC) Mad Mike 9pm - 10pm [Drum&Bass] (Big-H Recordings/Liquid Fire Productions) K-West 10pm – 11pm [breaks/House] (Breaks Connection/Djvibe.com) Jon 11pm - 12am [Drum&Bass] (Spec 4 NYC/Big-H Recordings) Shadowchaser 12am-1am [breaks] (Plug) Rekall 1am - 2am [Drum and Bass] 21+ Happy Hour: 6pm – 8pm DJs start at 8pm and go until….
