  1. seriously the bouncers in Spirit are dumb

hum...if they are the same ones when i was there back in January, they are the old twilo security so believe me: they've seen it all (1). so maybe you should think twice before insulting people.

    (1) and there can be absolutely no comparison between spirit now and what was going on back then at twilo.

  2. NOBODY has as much fun as an entire room of BODY N SOUL/SHELTER/GARAGE/LOFT/718 SESSIONS people. There are there to dance.

I agree, there is a WORLD of difference between this crowd and the rest (crobar/spirit/...). The proof? Look a little bit around and check the age of some of the dancers...they've been around since _the beginning_. They LIVE for the music and this scene...it's not some 20 something y/o who just goes to 'the cool' club because it's in and that's what we do at this age, and then will move on to the next cool thing society says we are supposed to be doing at 30, 40,... no no no, this scene is moved by a real love for music and dancing.

  3. yo sandman believe me iwas in that crowd and every body was moving its just that people stop to watch joe work his magic thats all. Believe me of all the parties i go to and all the crowds im a part of NOBODY has as much fun as an entire room of BODY N SOUL/SHELTER/GARAGE/LOFT/718 SESSIONS people. There are there to dance.

the garage is still open? :)

I understand some people do not get joe claussell, but the fact remains that he connects to his fans (a lot of people) in a way that i did not see anywhere else (and i've been around). it's really a spiritual experience; the man is a genius.

and yes, he plays lots of drums, and that got the whole vinyl to go insane. I cannot imagine the insanity of him playing for a whole night, with a good sound system, in NYC? This is going to be amazing!

  4. I don't think they promote him right overseas tho, I think they try to market him as a Danny-style NYC mainstream DJ and not the gay diva thing so people have the wrong expectations going in...

Junior's vibe do not travel well as a real 'jr experience' is as much about junior than it is about his crowd on those sunday morning. my humble opinion.

And about clubbing origins, EVERY new york deejay who did get a party going; be it Jr@Factory, Morales@RedZone, Body&Soul, Shelter, DT@Vinyl... they ALL go back to The Paradise Garage and The Loft (they said it themselves over and over again).

That is where the root of nyc club culture is to be found. (and that pre-dates house music or techno i believe).

And btw, yes, techno was influenced by European music but it is a true art form born in Detroit.

Everything will get an influence from somewhere, but you have to acknowlegde the birth of Techno and House as particular events and not just an evolution.

edit: and those pioneers deserve all the recognition they can get!

yeah, isn't it amazing that it was not stated clearly anywhere? talk about bad management...

I did not go but I would have definitely made my entrance :) at 7am if I knew it was going late.

  6. It's good for NYC to have a "new big name" in the mix.

"Big Name" meaning along side the consistancy of Tenaglia, Peters, Vasquez, Rauhofer, ect

erick is indeed someone who has the ability to draw a HUGE crowd and still have real musical credibility.

imho, the perfect scenario for him is to get the 46th space with afterhours and cater to the masses early and the classic-ny afterhour scene after (and leave the jp-type afterhours crowd to jp).
